63: Chapter 63 Arsonists in the Ruins

Lin Ye crawled out from a crevice in the ivy-covered rock wall, successfully returning to the basin ruins.

He quickly entered the streets on the outskirts.

Raising his hand to fire a Wind-Chasing Claw, Lin Ye vaulted onto the roof of a street-side shop.

Looking down from his vantage point, his gaze swept across the street below.

Three Small Pale Ones were wandering among the abandoned cars.

He raised his crossbow and nocked a bone-tipped wooden arrow.

"Whoosh!"

With a piercing sound, the wooden arrow shot through the skull of the first Pale Species.

[Killed Small Pale One, Points +4]

Lin Ye fired his grappling claw to retrieve the arrow.

He nocked another, and pulled the trigger again.

After hunting down a dozen or so small monsters in succession, Lin Ye crouched behind a broken window on the second floor of a building.

He frowned.

Wood was wood, after all; its hardness had its limits.

On average, it would shatter after shooting three monsters.

He summoned the light screen to take a look.

Scott from the USA had already surpassed 400 points.

"Shooting them one by one like this, I'll wear my hands out before I can catch up to that mad dog."

Lin Ye curled his lip.

Although the 'old six' sniping style was comfortable, during the time-limited Scarlet Hunt, the efficiency of single-target output was truly pathetic.

He put away his crossbow and swept his gaze over the road below.

His gaze finally settled on those abandoned cars.

A crazy plan for an area-of-effect attack gradually took shape in his mind.

"Since killing them one by one is too slow, I'll just take care of them all at once."

In the Great Xia Live Stream.

[Why did Brother Eye stop? Isn't farming points good?]

[That smile... I'm familiar with it, someone is about to be in big trouble!]

[This expression means he's up to something! But why is he staring at that pile of junk?]

[Don't guess, knowing Brother Eye's personality, he's probably about to pull off some new trick!]

Lin Ye slung his crossbow on his back and used the Wind-Chasing Claw to quickly weave between buildings.

Half an hour later, he landed on the roof of a partially collapsed gas station.

Below, a tanker truck was overturned on the concrete ground.

The Eye of Destiny swept over, confirming there was no danger around.

Lin Ye jumped to the ground and felt his way over to the tanker.

He used a dagger to pry open the rusted seal on the top of the tank.

Then he found a long steel bar and inserted it into the tank to stir a few times.

He pulled the steel bar out to look; the end was bone-dry, not even stained with an oil film.

Lin Ye sighed.

Great Xia Live Stream.

[I knew it! This trick won't work!]

[Brother Eye is confused! After so many years in the ruins, the gasoline would have long since evaporated.]

[He should hurry up and change his plan; throwing rocks from the roof would be more reliable than this.]

However, Lin Ye did not give up.

He turned his attention to the convenience store inside the gas station.

He pushed open the cobweb-filled glass door and waved away the dust in the air.

Covering his nose and mouth, he searched back and forth among the collapsed shelves.

When he turned to the innermost corner, Lin Ye's eyes lit up.

At the very bottom of the shelf, two large rows of plastic buckets were neatly stacked.

He walked up and used his dagger to pry open the seal of one of the buckets.

A pungent chemical odor rushed out.

Looking down inside, he saw a viscous brown liquid.

Motor oil!

As long as this stuff is sealed well, it can easily last for decades!

"Perfect, the plan is half done!"

He immediately left the gas station and wandered quickly through the nearby blocks, looking for suitable terrain.

Finally, a hundred meters away, he found a narrow alley between two buildings.

The alley was less than three meters wide, with towering concrete walls on both sides, and the end was blocked by a collapsed building.

A perfect dead end!

"This is the one."

For the next three hours, Lin Ye turned into a ruin porter.

He sneaked into nearby buildings, frantically scavenging for rotten wooden furniture, aged plastic, and ragged clothing.

Trip after trip.

He filled the depths of the alleyway with this flammable trash.

He even threw in the corpses of a few Pale Species he had killed while passing by, using them as fuel.

The firewood was ready.

After finishing the setup, he picked up the dozens of buckets of motor oil he had brought from the convenience store.

He unscrewed all the lids.

Lin Ye stood on the pile of trash and wantonly splashed the motor oil into every corner of the alley.

On the wood, on the plastic...

He didn't even spare the walls on both sides.

The pungent smell of motor oil drifted out of the alley entrance.

The final step.

In the deepest part of the alley, Lin Ye hung a broken iron bucket in mid-air using wire.

The bucket was filled with a few crushed stones.

He pulled the wire all the way to the fifth-floor rooftop of the adjacent building.

On the rooftop, Lin Ye used a flint to start a small fire.

Beside it, he had placed four improvised torches made of wooden sticks and rags.

Everything was ready.

He stood at the edge of the rooftop, took a deep breath, and pulled the wire hard.

"Clang! Clang! Clang!"

The noise of the crushed stones hitting the broken iron bucket echoed through the ruins.

In an instant.

Creepy roars emanated from the nearby streets and the shadows of the buildings.

Stimulated by the noise, the Pale Species moved at the sound, swarming in like madmen from all directions.

One, five, thirty...

Driven by instinct, these monsters scrambled to squeeze into the alleyway.

They pressed together, trampling each other, and even jumped up to grab the broken iron bucket overhead.

The monsters outside the alley squeezed into every available gap, afraid of missing out on the "feast" inside.

Looking at the dense, writhing heads below, Lin Ye sneered.

"Are you all here? Then offer up your points."

He grabbed the four torches and lit them on the fire.

Then he flicked his wrist.

The burning torches plummeted from the fifth-floor rooftop.

"Boom!"

An orange-red blaze shot up from the ground.

The narrow, towering alleyway directly triggered the "chimney effect"!

Cold air from outside was frantically sucked into the bottom, turning into a violent accelerant.

The intense air convection caused the fire to intensify rapidly, turning into a dragon of fire shooting straight into the sky!

The rolling heat wave hit the fifth-floor rooftop, and Lin Ye had to take two steps back.

"Hiss—roar—!"

In the sea of fire, the Pale Species let out miserable screeches.

Their leathery skin rapidly withered and carbonized in the high temperature.

The monsters tried their hardest to escape.

But the sticky motor oil under their feet and the crowding of their own kind cut off any retreat.

This was a one-sided slaughter with no suspense.

Except for a few remnants at the entrance of the alley that ran out with their backs on fire, all the Pale Species inside were wiped out!

The light screen in Lin Ye's right eye was flooded with kill notifications.

[Killed Small Pale One, Points +4]

[Killed Medium Pale-Type, Points +10]

[Killed Small Pale One, Points +4]

Lin Ye's points, which had been just over two hundred, shot up like they were riding a rocket!

358 points...

412 points...

536 points...

The leaderboard on the light screen refreshed.

[No.1: Lin Ye (Great Xia) — Points: 566]

[No.2: Scott (USA) — Points: 438]

He directly trampled Scott from the USA and dominated the top spot!

In the Great Xia Live Stream, the chat exploded!

[Awesome! Art is an explosion!]

[I'm not educated enough, but one "holy cow" says it all!]

[Learn your math, physics, and chemistry, and you can travel the wasteland without fear! This chimney effect is amazing!]

[I thought he was going to play guerrilla warfare, but he ended up building a crematorium!]

[Number One! Brother Eye is number one! He surpassed the USA by over a hundred points!]

[Look, that's what you call professional!]

On the fifth-floor rooftop, Lin Ye felt the scorching heat wave coming from below and clapped the dust off his hands.

"The number one experience card, isn't it in my hands now!"

...

Meanwhile, on the other side of the ruins.

In a top-floor room of an office building.

Sean Johnson was standing in front of a broken floor-to-ceiling window, his eyes fixed on the black column of smoke shooting into the sky in the distance.

Liu Tingting knelt at his feet, looking in the direction of his gaze, her face full of astonishment.

"Such a big commotion... there must be a big fish there."

Sean grinned, revealing a mouthful of yellow teeth.

He turned around, grabbed Liu Tingting by the hair, and yanked her up from the ground.

"It's time for you to prove your worth!"
