70: Chapter 70 The Tiered Enemy Deception Plan
The two passed through the forest and returned to the ruins in the basin.
He summoned the translucent, pale blue light screen.
[No.1: Scott (USA) — Points: 594]
[No.2: Lin Ye (Great Xia) — Points: 566]
Lin Ye looked at that number, his eyelids twitching slightly.
This mad dog from the USA really pulled an all-nighter.
Last night, the activity level of the Pale Species surged; ordinary Challengers couldn't even dodge in time.
Yet Scott forcefully endured the dark night, working his life away, and overtook him by fifty-seven points.
This could no longer be explained by good physical stamina.
After being marinated in high-dimensional energy, he was indeed resilient.
But what about the cost?
How much of a human he still remained, only he himself knew.
Zhao Mengmeng looked at Lin Ye: "Brother Lin, what are we doing today?"
Lin Ye casually closed the light screen.
"It's the last day. Either we don't act, or if we do, we do something big."
"We need to find a battlefield where we can slaughter a large number of prey at once."
Zhao Mengmeng's eyes lit up.
"Got it, continuing to play dirty, right?"
Lin Ye glanced at her: "This is called tactics."
"Right, tactics." Zhao Mengmeng immediately changed her wording, "High-end tactics, that is."
...
More than half an hour later, the two entered deeper into the ruins.
Lin Ye climbed up a half-collapsed building.
Zhao Mengmeng followed closely, using her hands and feet to climb to the edge of the rooftop.
The rooftop was mostly cracked, with steel bars exposed, and concrete blocks could fall at any moment.
Lin Ye squatted at the edge and pointed downwards.
"Look there."
Zhao Mengmeng leaned over to look.
Below was a semi-enclosed plaza.
It was surrounded by multiple high-rise buildings, with towering walls and dense broken windows.
The interior of the plaza was scattered with a large number of abandoned vehicles, billboards, concrete blocks, and a few overturned buses.
The entire plaza only had two narrow entrances and exits at the front and back.
The rest of the area was either high walls or piles of ruins blocked by collapsed buildings.
Zhao Mengmeng looked for a few seconds, her eyes getting brighter and brighter.
"Shutting the door to beat the dog?"
Lin Ye nodded.
"Control the front and back entrances, and inside will be a meat grinder."
"Later, you go to the broken window on the second floor on the right side. Your position will be a bit lower than mine, but the field of view will definitely be enough."
Zhao Mengmeng nodded immediately.
Lin Ye continued:
"I will be the main killer at the third-floor window on the left side, setting up a wall of fire in the middle of the plaza to cut off the encirclement."
"If any low-health ones run out, you finish them off. Recover the arrows if you can; don't force it if you can't."
Zhao Mengmeng asked: "What if some monsters leak through?"
"Block them."
Lin Ye pointed to several narrow gaps at the edge of the plaza.
"Small monsters can crawl through these gaps. Use concrete blocks and steel bars to seal them shut. Don't rush; they must be sealed tight."
Zhao Mengmeng took a look and turned to go downstairs.
"Time to work!"
The two slid down from the load-bearing pillars to the ground and immediately began setting up the battlefield.
Lin Ye first checked the interior of the plaza.
He continuously activated the Eye of Destiny in short bursts, confirming the interior was safe before starting.
He used a fire axe to split open the wreckage of an abandoned car's fuel tank.
There was no gasoline left inside, but sticky oil residue remained at the bottom.
Lin Ye stuffed rags inside to absorb the oil, then threw the oil-soaked rags to the center line of the plaza.
One car, two cars, three cars.
He went back and forth dismantling cars, the axe smashing the sheet metal into severe deformation, sending sparks flying everywhere.
The cushions, plastic casings, and aged rubber from the abandoned cars were all dragged out by him and piled onto a line running across the plaza.
This line was not thick, but it was enough to form a deadly wall of fire.
Zhao Mengmeng wasn't idle either.
She picked up half a concrete slab, her face turning bright red, and forcefully dragged it to the gap at the edge of the plaza.
If it didn't work the first time, she used a steel bar to pry it.
She inserted the steel bar into the gap, stepped on the other end, and pressed down with all her might.
The concrete slab flipped over and wedged into the gap.
"Again!"
She wiped her sweat heroically and continued to move the next piece.
One gap was too narrow, so she simply used a dagger to whittle away the wood blocking it, then forcefully shoved bricks and stones inside.
In less than half an hour, the back of her hands was covered in scratches, and her arms were scraped in several places.
Yet she didn't even glance at them.
Lin Ye looked back and was very satisfied in his heart.
This teammate was truly someone who could get things done and would never hold him back.
The battlefield gradually took shape.
The center line of the plaza was piled with combustibles, the entrances and exits on both sides remained open, and all the gaps at the edges were sealed shut.
The only thing left, and the most critical part, was luring the monsters.
Lin Ye picked up a broken iron bucket from the roadside, preparing to make a noise device.
Zhao Mengmeng watched for a while and suddenly spoke: "Brother Lin, if only one spot makes noise, it's easy to lure the big monsters directly in."
Lin Ye's hand movements stopped: "Keep going."
Zhao Mengmeng pointed to the street in front of the plaza.
"Let's set up a few groups. First, make noise outside, then make noise after a certain distance, and finally at the entrance. Let the monsters chase us in stages."
She pointed to the alley on the other side.
"This way, the small monsters will be led into the plaza first, while the big monsters will be slower, crowding behind. If there are really big guys, they will be blocked by the small monsters in front."
Lin Ye stared at her for two seconds.
"Not bad, Engineer Zhao."
Zhao Mengmeng proudly lifted her chin: "Of course, don't underestimate the wisdom of the working people."
Lin Ye nodded: "Let's do it."
The two immediately changed their plan.
They filled several waste iron buckets with gravel and hung them on advertising racks, street lamp posts, and broken window frames around the entrance.
Each iron bucket was connected to thin iron wires.
The iron wires wound around abandoned cars, broken walls, and window frames, finally converging at the third-floor window where Lin Ye was.
As long as they were pulled in order, the groups of iron buckets would ring in stages, precisely luring the Pale Species from the nearby blocks into the plaza in batches.
Zhao Mengmeng lay on the ground, checking if the iron wires would get stuck.
She dragged an iron wire out from under a car with difficulty, unable to help but curse under her breath.
"This damn thing is even more annoying than threading a needle upside down!"
Lin Ye calmly adjusted the angle nearby: "Annoying as it is, it can save your life later."
"I know, I didn't say I wasn't going to do it."
The Great Xia Live Stream was dumbfounded.
[Holy crap! These two are really building a production line in the ruins!]
[Luring, diversion, fire wall, finishing off, recovering arrows—a complete closed-loop with no blind spots!]
[Zhao Mengmeng is really not just a vase accessory! Her tiered noise design is simply a stroke of genius!]
[The fully automated killing assembly line is about to start! Is America ready to get hammered!]
By the time all the arrangements were completed, it was already near noon.
The temperature in the ruins rose, and the pungent, charred smell grew stronger.
After checking the fire wall materials one last time, Lin Ye placed a few simple torches near the third-floor window in advance.
Zhao Mengmeng, carrying two large bundles of wooden arrows, stealthily slipped behind the broken window on the second floor next door.
Her position was shielded by a broken wall, allowing her to overlook the right half of the plaza, and she could also leave directly from the back stairs when retreating.
Lin Ye, using the Wind-Chasing Claw, silently climbed into the third-floor window of the building on the left side of the plaza.
He set the crossbow on the windowsill, with torches, a flint, and bundles of wooden arrows placed beside it.
The two looked at each other from across the plaza.
Zhao Mengmeng raised her hand and decisively gave a "no problem" gesture.
Lin Ye nodded slightly and blinked his left eye gently.
Eye of Destiny, activate.
On the streets radiating out from the plaza, red light dots were densely and scattered.
Further away, there were a few clusters of red light wandering around.
There was enough prey.
And enough danger as well.
Lin Ye closed his left eye and grabbed the first iron wire wrapped around the window frame with his right hand.
Zhao Mengmeng was behind the second-floor window.
The wind passed through the dilapidated building, causing the iron wire to vibrate slightly.
Lin Ye locked onto the street below.
The next second, he pulled hard!
"Clang! Clang! Clang!"
The piercing, sharp sound of metal clashing broke the silence of the ruins.
In the shadows in the distance, the first shrill roar of a Pale Species resounded through the sky.
