128: Chapter 128 Bloodstained Ice Pillar Forest
The sound of the wind in the Icicle Forest was piercingly sharp.
The cold wind forced its way through the holes, swirling around the black rocks and tearing the sound of footsteps on the snow to shreds.
Lin Ye stood in the shadow of an icicle, his right hand hanging naturally at his side.
Zhao Mengmeng knelt halfway behind him to the left.
Her crossbow was aimed very low.
The muzzle of the crossbow slowly shifted, following the movement trajectory of the three Germans in the distance.
Hans did not make a sound.
In his eyes, the two Great Xia Challengers in front were merely two moving supply bags.
Violent bear skin armor.
Offcuts of wolf king hide.
Bulging backpacks.
And that crossbow, along with the unknown equipment on Lin Ye's right arm.
On a Level 4 Floating Island, heat and weapons are life.
Hans's squad had lost one man after arriving on the island.
The cause of death was three seconds of pity for a stranger.
Those three seconds cost them a dagger plunged into a teammate's kidney from behind.
Since then, Hans had only one rule.
If a living person approaches a supply point, kill them.
If a strong person passes by with supplies, kill them even more.
On the other side of the icicles, the Great Xia Live Stream was boiling over.
"Captain Hans is moving!"
"Take them down! That bear skin can survive the next round of temperature drops!"
"The equipment on that Great Xia man is dangerous, don't give him any room to maneuver!"
"Push up with the bone shield! Crush him!"
The barrage in the Great Xia Live Stream surged accordingly.
"These Germans are really going for the kill!"
"Triangular assault formation! They are all damn professionals!"
"Brother Eye, don't take it head-on, Mengmeng, retreat first!"
Inside the Icicle Forest.
Hans made a downward cutting motion with his right hand.
The two scattered team members immediately closed in toward the central axis.
The German in the lead stepped out from behind a giant rock.
He was nearly two meters tall, with broad shoulders and back, and a beast bone shield strapped to his left arm.
The bone shield was polished from a single piece of curved back armor.
Its surface was greyish-white, embedded with broken teeth along the edges, and covered in scratches, yet it was exceptionally hard.
The bone shield vanguard lowered his center of gravity.
He crouched entirely behind the shield, revealing only a portion of his lower leg and half of his cold, hard face.
The spearman stuck close to his right rear, the spear tip protruding along the side of the shield.
Hans trailed half a step behind.
He held his bone blade with an underhand grip.
His gaze was locked onto Lin Ye's shoulders, elbows, and knees.
The shield led the front, the spear sealed the sides, and the short blade remained in the center, waiting for an opportunity to slit a throat.
There was no wasted talk.
Not a shred of leeway was left.
Zhao Mengmeng's eyelids twitched as she watched: "These foreigners are really treating us like hostages."
Lin Ye did not look back.
He raised his hand and gripped her shoulder.
He used the momentum to push her toward the black rock jutting out on the left.
"Get up there and set up the crossbow."
"Lin Ye!"
"Shut up and suppress the spearman."
Zhao Mengmeng's back hit the black rock, her bones aching.
But her movements didn't slow down by even a fraction.
She fired the Wind-Chasing Claw, its three hooks biting into the upper edge of the black rock.
Using the leverage, she flipped up to the high position on the side, kneeling on one knee to anchor herself against the rock face.
The crossbow leveled out instantly.
The moment he pushed Zhao Mengmeng away, Lin Ye raised his right arm.
The mechanism clicked open crisply.
Swish, swish, swish!
Three anchor points shot out, skimming the surface of the snow.
They bit firmly into the solid ice on the left, the rock crevice on the right, and the base of a half-broken icicle behind him, respectively.
The fourth anchor point pulled diagonally upward, driving into the stone ridge on the back of the hanging ice.
An invisible cutting web formed within the narrow passage.
Hans's gaze swept over Lin Ye's arm-raising movement.
His pace did not falter.
The more dangerous the unknown equipment was, the more he needed to speed up and crush him.
The bone shield vanguard received the order and let out a short roar from his throat.
His feet stomped heavily, crushing the snow crust.
He charged madly with the shield raised.
He forced his way into the narrow passage between the icicles, rushing straight at Lin Ye's chest.
Lin Ye remained nailed to the spot.
He did not retreat a single step.
The bone shield charged to within three meters.
Two meters.
One meter.
The bone shield collided with the Nano-wire.
There was no explosion.
Only a harsh, grating friction sound.
The rock-solid beast bone shield cracked on the spot.
The second wire.
The third wire.
Under the massive momentum of the charge, the entire thick bone armor was dismembered into several pieces by the invisible thin wires.
Bone fragments flew, grazing the vanguard's cheeks, and smashed into the ice walls on both sides.
The vanguard's pupils shrank to pinpricks.
He couldn't stop his feet at all.
His right arm was still tightly strapped into the shield straps.
The Nano-wire slid into the cracked bone gaps, sweeping across his shoulder blade.
Pfft!
His entire right arm was severed at the root.
The severed arm, along with the remnants of the shield, smashed into the snow.
Boiling hot blood gushed from the smooth cut, exploding into a large mist of blood in the cold wind.
The vanguard lost his balance.
His body lunged forward, half his face smashing through the ice crust, plowing a glaring red furrow in the snow.
The shouting in the German Livestream stuttered to a halt.
"The shield broke?!"
"What kind of weapon is that?!"
"Save him! Save him quickly!"
The Great Xia Live Stream was filled with jubilation.
"Satisfying! Keep shouting!"
"Bone shield? It must be made of paper!"
"Brother Eye didn't even move a step and already took an arm!"
Zhao Mengmeng tightened her finger on the trigger from her high vantage point.
The muzzle of the crossbow was locked onto the spearman.
As long as he dared to leave the cover of the shield, this arrow would definitely pierce his throat.
Behind the icicle.
Hans didn't even glance at his armless teammate rolling on the ground.
The blood droplets sprayed by the vanguard hung briefly in mid-air.
They dripped down with gravity.
The position of the Nano-wire was exposed.
Hans's eyes were cold to the extreme.
"Abandon the line, press to the right."
The spearman moved diagonally to the right without hesitation, completely abandoning the rescue of his teammate on the ground.
Hans pulled out a heavy bone throwing spear from behind with his left hand.
The spear shaft was short and thick, the tip ground into a heavy cone shape, and bound with animal tendons.
It was built specifically for armor-piercing and shattering ice.
Lin Ye's gaze narrowed.
His right thumb had just touched the retraction mechanism.
Hans had already exerted force suddenly.
The heavy bone spear tore through the wind and snow, crossing over the frontal cutting web, heading straight for the area above Lin Ye.
The target was not him.
It was that huge icicle hanging at the top of the passage, which already had cracks at its base.
Bang!
The bone spear smashed heavily into the base of the icicle.
The cracks exploded outward in a spiderweb pattern.
Crack, crack, crack!
Several tons of hanging ice broke off, carrying large amounts of ice shards, and crashed down toward Lin Ye's head.
Zhao Mengmeng roared: "Lin Ye! Above your head!"
Lin Ye didn't even look up.
The ice layer where the Dark Weaver anchor points were attached was cracking simultaneously.
The anchor point collapsed.
The Nano-wire recoiled instantly.
If he tried to force the array to be maintained, the overloaded tension would directly tear his right arm apart.
Lin Ye decisively released two secondary lines.
The cutting array disintegrated.
Boom!
The giant ice smashed onto the ground.
Snow mist mixed with ice shards shot into the sky.
Lin Ye pulled back and rolled backward.
His shoulder and back scraped heavily against the edge of the black rock, and his violent bear skin was scratched with a ghastly white mark.
A piece of ice the size of a tabletop smashed the spot where he had just been standing.
Zhao Mengmeng's crossbow muzzle tracked Hans at high speed.
But the spearman stepped forward, thrusting his spear upward, the tip pointing directly at the high ground.
Zhao Mengmeng was forced to lower her body, avoiding the attack range.
Hans had already used the flying ice mist to close in.
His speed was steady.
Every step was precisely timed to the rhythm of Lin Ye's old force dissipating and new force not yet generated.
Lin Ye had just rolled up from the snow, his right boot not yet fully planted.
Hans had already closed to within four meters.
The bone blade was unsheathed.
The greyish-white blade was extremely thin, and the barb at the tip gleamed with cold light.
The first strike went straight for the throat.
Lin Ye raised his damaged Fire Axe to block horizontally.
Clang!
The blade and axe collided.
Hans twisted his wrist slightly.
The tip of the blade slid along the axe surface, cutting diagonally downward, straight toward Lin Ye's ribs.
Lin Ye dodged sideways.
His right arm mechanism had just popped out half an inch when Hans's knee smashed into the Dark Weaver bracer.
Bang!
The shooting angle was deflected.
An anchor point stuck into a snow pit nearby, rendering a main line useless.
Hans was stuck to him extremely tightly.
He kicked up ice shards from the ground, aiming straight at Lin Ye's face.
Lin Ye tilted his head to dodge.
The moment his vision was obstructed by the ice shards.
Hans stepped forward, and the bone blade carved a weird arc from bottom to top.
The blade tip closed in on his carotid artery.
Lin Ye's back slammed heavily against the remaining icicle.
His retreat was blocked.
Lin Ye used the icicle to anchor his back, his cold gaze locking onto Hans's eyes across the blade.
