155: Chapter 155 Reap What You Sow
Lin Ye led Zhao Mengmeng deeper into the statue formation.
The heavy-armored knights surrounding them grew increasingly dense.
Some statues were hunched forward in a charge, their greatswords barring the path.
Others knelt on the ground with spears thrusting diagonally, the tips less than half a foot from their chests.
The two had to move sideways, weaving between the frozen weapons.
Zhao Mengmeng pressed her back against Lin Ye, her voice extremely soft.
"This damn place is too cramped even for a fight."
"So don't fight."
Lin Ye's Left Eye opened for only a split second.
Within twenty meters ahead, there were at least seven living statues.
They were mixed in among the dead statues, their piercing red light muted by the layers of ice.
He issued instructions.
"Left foot, diagonally forward."
"Don't touch the spear tip."
"Stare at the second hammer-wielder on the right."
Zhao Mengmeng's eyes turned red as she executed the command with extreme precision.
"I've got it locked."
"Blink."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm watching it."
Zhao Mengmeng quickly closed her eyes and opened them again.
In the instant she blinked, the ice on the shoulder of the hammer-wielding ice statue on the right shattered, and the hammer handle suddenly lifted by half an inch.
Lin Ye's gaze firmly suppressed it.
It froze in place immediately.
The heavy ice hammer hung in mid-air, the hammerhead less than three feet from Zhao Mengmeng's cheek.
Zhao Mengmeng locked her eyes onto it again, her throat bobbing.
"That almost gave me a makeover."
"Move forward." The two continued to inch along.
Thirty meters away, Takahashi and Sato followed closely, stepping into the faint footprints Lin Ye left behind.
If they got too close, they would be drawn into the attack range; if they stayed too far, the footprints would be erased by the frost.
Cold sweat condensed into ice beads on Takahashi's brow.
He had to keep his eyes on the awakened ice statues ahead while also observing the direction of Lin Ye's footprints.
Sato blinked twice in succession.
Every time he blinked, the ice statues to the side would shift half a step.
"Mr. Takahashi, we can't keep following like this." Sato's voice trembled. "They're moving too steadily; we're going to be left behind."
Takahashi's facial muscles twitched violently.
The two from Great Xia were advancing step by step through the formation, while their own squad had been reduced to just the two of them.
"Make some noise." Takahashi lowered his voice.
Sato's eyelids twitched wildly. "It will wake up the ice statues."
"Wake up the ones near them."
Takahashi stared at the three heavy-armored knights to Lin Ye's right.
As long as they suddenly awakened, the two from Great Xia would panic, their visual lock would collapse, and he could use the chaos to bypass them and take the supplies.
"Kick something over there, be gentle."
Sato bent down and used his toe to flick a piece of crushed ice near his foot.
The ice shard slid along the icy surface and struck a broken spear.
Clink.
Although the sound was faint, this slight collision echoed thousands of times off the dome of the Weapon Mound.
To Lin Ye's right, the ice layers on the three sword-wielding knights shattered simultaneously.
A cold, eerie green light flared up.
"Three on the right!" Zhao Mengmeng shouted urgently.
"I know."
Lin Ye didn't even turn his head.
Before entering the formation, he had already spotted the two green figures near the crevice in the side wall.
He hadn't bothered with them while they followed behind as living meat shields.
But the moment the ice shard slid out, the two green blobs in his retinas suddenly turned crimson.
The intent to kill had emerged.
This was the exact moment Lin Ye had been waiting for.
Four meters ahead lay a four-meter-tall ice millstone, half-buried in the frost.
It was a natural blind spot for their line of sight.
If they hid inside, the field of view of the two from Sakura Country behind them would be completely cut off.
And the awakened ice statues, having lost their locked target, would instinctively search for the nearest source of sound.
"Duck!"
Lin Ye grabbed Zhao Mengmeng by the back of her collar.
Zhao Mengmeng used the momentum to lunge forward; the two vaulted over the shoulder armor of a dead statue and slid behind the ice millstone.
The two from Great Xia vanished into thin air from the outside view.
Crack!
Having lost their visual lock, the three heavy-armored knights accelerated with violent motions.
Takahashi had originally been staring at Lin Ye, but when the target suddenly disappeared, his gaze uncontrollably followed toward the ice millstone.
Sato was also startled and turned his head.
In that very instant.
The three heavy-armored knights charged out, dragging trails of shattered ice.
The frozen greatswords slashed down horizontally.
By the time Sato heard the wind and pulled his gaze back, it was already too late.
Pfft!
The greatsword smashed into his right shoulder, shattering his shoulder bone and the beast-skin armor on the spot.
His entire right arm flew off at an unnatural angle, and blood sprayed onto the ice, instantly freezing into red ice shards.
"Ah—!"
Sato's scream hit the dome of the Weapon Mound, creating heavy echoes.
This sound was a hundred times louder than the crushed ice.
The sound of cracking ice in the surrounding area merged into a single roar.
Ten statues. Twenty statues. Fifty statues.
The color drained completely from Takahashi's face.
"No! Stare at them! Keep your eyes on them!" He roared in the language of Sakura Country.
Sato clutched his severed shoulder and rolled frantically on the ground, his gaze darting around wildly.
A spear-wielding knight slid to his back and brought its spear down heavily.
Pfft. The spear tip pierced through Sato's thigh, pinning him firmly to the ice.
Takahashi didn't dare to save him.
He stared fixedly at the two ice statues directly in front of him, his eyes bloodshot, but his peripheral vision was filled with the awakened grim reapers.
Left, right, behind. He couldn't keep track of them all.
The Great Xia people were gone; it was they who were now surrounded.
The Great Xia Live Stream room immediately erupted in chaos.
[Beautiful! Brother Eye used the line of sight against them!]
[Those Sakura Country bastards wanted to sneak attack, now they've been fed directly into the monsters' mouths!]
[Without even drawing a blade, he sent them back into the pit they dug themselves.]
[What do you call this? This is self-service reincarnation.]
Behind the ice millstone.
Zhao Mengmeng's back was pressed hard against the thick ice, her chest aching, and her breathing irregular.
"Were they doing that on purpose just now?"
"Yeah."
"Then they deserved to die."
Lin Ye's Left Eye flashed open, confirming there was no immediate danger behind the ice millstone.
Outside, Sato's screams quickly faded.
Takahashi couldn't hold on anymore; one ice statue approached from the left, while another raised a hammer from the right.
His mental defenses collapsed; he abandoned Sato and turned to flee wildly.
The moment he turned his back, a dozen frozen spears appeared out of thin air, blocking his path.
A heavy-armored knight stepped across, slamming its great shield into him.
Takahashi was sent flying off the ground, his ribs snapping one by one.
Before he even landed, an ice hammer smashed down heavily.
Bang!
The ice surface shook, kicking up a large cloud of frost dust.
Takahashi's lower body was crushed into a pulp of flesh.
He widened his eyes, spraying blood from his mouth, still trying to crawl forward with his hands.
Three tall knights stepped toward him.
The first step crushed his spine, the second crushed his chest.
As the third foot fell, Takahashi, along with his twisted face, was completely ground into the frost and gore.
After a few strikes, the commotion outside ceased, leaving only bone fragments rolling on the ice.
Zhao Mengmeng lowered her voice.
"Is it over?"
"They are finished, but we are not."
Lin Ye peeked half an inch out from the right side of the ice millstone.
Having lost their living targets and the sound, the awakened ice statues sank back into a semi-frozen state.
However, the formation had completely changed; the passages on the left and right were now blocked by the newly moved knights.
"Those two pieces of trash from Sakura Country are still causing trouble even in death."
"But they also gave us an opportunity."
Lin Ye pointed toward the direction where Takahashi died.
"A new path was trampled open over there."
Zhao Mengmeng followed his gaze.
In the area where Takahashi had been ground into pulp, several dead statues had been knocked over.
Among the collapsed ruins, a narrow black stone path that had previously been blocked was revealed.
Zhao Mengmeng gritted her teeth and chuckled.
"They renovated with their lives?"
"The quality is average, but it's usable."
"Go?"
"Wait three breaths." Lin Ye stared at the three closest awakened knights.
One breath. Two breaths. Three breaths.
The eerie green light dimmed, and the ice layers covered their joints once again.
"Now."
The two crept out from behind the ice millstone.
Zhao Mengmeng watched the right, Lin Ye watched the left.
They stepped along the edges of the blood-stained ice left by Takahashi, avoiding the gore on the ground, and cut directly into the newly exposed black stone path.
The frozen blood covering the ice surface was extremely slippery.
Zhao Mengmeng cursed under her breath.
"Even in death, they're such a nuisance."
"Step on the black stone, don't step on the red ice."
The living ice statues in the passage hadn't fully fallen asleep yet; if they looked away, the statues would attack.
Lin Ye flashed his Left Eye open extremely quickly, confirmed the locations of the red dots, and led Zhao Mengmeng through based purely on memory.
Every time he closed his Left Eye, a dull, needle-like pain radiated from deep within his eyeball.
He didn't utter a single word about it.
Zhao Mengmeng noticed that the muscles on the back of the man in front of her were tensed tight.
"Brother Lin, can your eye hold up?"
"If it can't, we'll just walk with our eyes closed."
"Then we can just go ahead and pick out our coffin colors."
"Everything here is blue."
"Get lost, that's bad luck."
Zhao Mengmeng cursed, but her arm holding the crossbow leveled out, holding even steadier than before.
