175: Chapter 175 Canyon Wind Blade

The giant bronze sundial gate parted heavily to both sides.

A violent gale poured in through the gap in the gate.

Inside the threshold, the dust and sand on the metal floor were instantly swept high into the air.

Zhao Mengmeng tentatively poked out half of her boot tip.

Rip!

The edge of her cut-resistant trousers was sliced open by an invisible blade, leaving a three-inch gash.

She quickly pulled her leg back.

Her back pressed tightly against the doorframe.

“It's not just that the path is gone; even the wind has teeth.”

Lin Ye stood at the edge of the cliff.

His horizontal saber was pressed against his side.

Before him lay a black canyon that stretched beyond the reach of his vision.

The wild wind spiraled upward from below, scraping against the deep rock walls to produce a piercing, harsh howl.

At the edge of the wind eye in the far distance, several crumbling stone platforms floated precariously.

A few broken bronze chains whipped wildly in midair.

Every time they swept through the air, they were sliced by wind blades, sending out dense showers of sparks.

Lin Ye used the back of his horizontal saber to flick up a piece of rubble by his feet.

With a slight flick of his wrist,

the rubble flew out the door.

It was only about thirty feet away from the door.

There was no obstruction in midair.

But in the blink of an eye, the stone shattered out of thin air!

The fist-sized rubble was instantly sliced into over a dozen pieces by an invisible force.

Then, it exploded into a cloud of stone dust in a second gust of powerful wind.

Before the dust could even rise, it was swept down to the bottom of the canyon.

The Great Xia Live Stream fell briefly silent.

"[How do we cross this? Even stones turn to dust when they go in!]"

"[The path is broken, and the sky is full of wind blades. Even a god couldn't fly through this!]"

"[Hold steady, Brother Eye must be calculating.]"

Lin Ye silently opened his Left Eye.

True Vision spread out.

The originally empty canyon was immediately filled with overlapping layers of crimson wind planes.

The crimson planes sliced horizontally, swept diagonally, and spiraled upward.

The outermost red lights were blindingly bright, enough to shred any living creature to pieces.

Lin Ye didn't try to take in too much, locking his gaze onto the area within fifty meters outside the door.

The crimson planes raged violently for three breaths.

Afterward, there would be a one-breath vacuum.

Once that breath passed, the next round of the deadly array would immediately fill in.

A wind gap.

A sharp pain shot through his optic nerve, and he decisively closed his eyes.

“Three breaths of killing wind, one breath of empty space.”

“We're relying on that single breath to jump?”

“This is the only way.”

Zhao Mengmeng poked her head out to look at the bottomless black abyss, spitting out a mouthful of sandy saliva.

“Alright. Since life is short, we'd better move fast.”

Lin Ye took off his backpack.

He pulled out an intact roll of thick beast hide from it.

A flash of his blade.

The beast hide was neatly cut into long strips.

He handed half to her.

“Wrap your nose, mouth, wrists, and joints.”

While the wind blades were incredibly sharp,

the whipped-up gravel would still scrape off a layer of flesh if it hit bare skin.

The final knot was tightened at the side of Zhao Mengmeng's neck.

“Your tying technique... even executioners would think it's too harsh.”

“Dead people don't complain.”

Lin Ye wrapped himself up and sheathed his blade.

The mechanism in his right arm clicked and clacked as the traction crystal core began to preheat.

“Twenty-two meters, fifteen meters, then another ten meters to the left.”

Lin Ye pointed to several broken stalagmites protruding diagonally over the canyon outside.

“A total of five swings. The destination is the stone cave on the other side.”

“Five times.” Zhao Mengmeng rotated her Wind-Chasing Claw. “Is there any margin for error?”

“Zero.”

Lin Ye crouched down on one knee.

He pressed his palm against the rock at the edge of the cliff.

He was measuring the wind.

“Three.”

“Two.”

“One.”

The wind blades filling the sky suddenly stopped.

The wind gap appeared.

“Jump!”

Two figures leapt over the bronze threshold at the same time.

Below them was a bottomless black abyss.

The Dark Weaver on Lin Ye's right arm shot out, its black thread anchoring into a deep groove on the back of the first stalagmite.

The Wind-Chasing Claw followed closely behind.

The pulling force suddenly tightened.

The wind gap lasted for only a single breath.

Lin Ye swiftly tucked his abdomen and raised his knees in midair.

An extremely fast air current swept wildly past the soles of his combat boots.

Bang!

The two slammed heavily against the back of the first stalagmite.

Just as they stabilized themselves against the stone surface,

the wild wind came slashing in.

Ssh!

An entire layer of the stalagmite's outer side was sliced clean off.

Shattered rock fragments shot over their heads, carried by the powerful wind.

Zhao Mengmeng squeezed tightly into a crevice.

“If this rock gets sliced a couple more times, we won't even have a place to stand!”

Lin Ye looked up.

The top of the thick stalagmite was already cracking apart.

His Left Eye opened briefly.

“Prepare for the next jump.”

The wind gap was about to open again.

“Three.”

Wind blades slashed diagonally, peeling off a large chunk of the rock shell.

“Two.”

The bronze chain whipped through the air with a loud crack.

“One.”

“Go!”

The grappling hooks cut through the air.

The very instant they swung toward the second stalagmite, the one they had just been on snapped and collapsed.

The multi-ton boulder tumbled down into the black abyss, without even a sound of impact echoing back.

The second landing point was extremely narrow.

Half of Zhao Mengmeng's boot heel missed its footing, and her body began to fall uncontrollably.

Lin Ye grabbed her tactical belt with his left hand and yanked her upward with immense force.

His shoulder slammed hard against the stone wall.

“Third jump. Bounce off the moment you touch down.”

The turbulence at the edge of the wind eye was completely chaotic.

The two threw out their grappling hooks again.

The moment they left the second stalagmite, a wild air current violently threw Zhao Mengmeng outward.

The three-pronged hook was pulled off course, but it ended up catching inside a deeper crevice instead.

Turbulence sliced across the outer skin of the backpack.

Long white marks were scored into the beast hide.

Their toes tapped lightly against the third stalagmite for only half a breath.

Without any pause, they used the momentum to charge straight toward the fourth landing point.

Ahead was a section of bronze chain suspended horizontally in midair.

“Don't latch on tightly! Use your feet to launch off!”

Lin Ye's grappling hook locked onto a rusty eyelet beneath the chain.

The two traced a massive arc in midair, slamming into the inner side of the chain.

Only twenty-three meters remained until the destination cave.

An unexpected danger suddenly arose.

A reverse whirlwind erupted from the bottom of the canyon without warning.

It completely disrupted the pattern of the three-breath cycle.

The crimson light flooded into the wind gap ahead of time.

In the vision of Lin Ye's Left Eye, the crimson residual wind intertwined and came crashing down on them.

It wasn't enough to shred a person, but it was enough to knock them off course and severely injure them in midair.

“Retract and enter the cave!”

The two fired their grappling hooks at full speed.

In midair, a sharp wind blade sliced straight toward Zhao Mengmeng's waist.

Lin Ye exerted force with his wrist, grabbing her backpack strap and pulling her violently to his side.

He shifted his back in the same motion, blocking the blind spot of the wind.

Riiip!

The outer layer of the tactical backpack ripped open on the spot.

The shock-absorbing layer was sliced open, and pieces of fabric flew everywhere.

Zhao Mengmeng used the momentum to fling herself toward the edge of the cave, grabbing Lin Ye's wrist in a tight reverse grip as she ran her Wind-Chasing Claw at full power.

The two rolled heavily into the hard stone cave.

Lin Ye's back slammed against the rock wall with a dull, ear-ringing thud.

Most of the howling storm outside was cut off by the thick wind-blocking rock.

Zhao Mengmeng propped herself up on one knee and immediately turned around.

“The bag is ripped!”

Lin Ye reached into the tear on his back.

Only the outer shell was broken.

The grain seeds and dragon bone nails inside were perfectly intact.

“It's fine.”

Zhao Mengmeng glanced at Lin Ye's uninjured back.

“You used the backpack to block the wind blade?”

Lin Ye tore off the windproof beast hide on his wrists.

“The residual wind only had enough force to slice through leather. I calculated its dissipated thickness.”

The inside of the cave was extremely dark.

No light filtered in.

Lin Ye took off his pack and felt around in the lining for a flint.

A few sparks splattered onto some dry debris.

A faint, orange-yellow flame slowly lit up.

Zhao Mengmeng looked up by the firelight, and her body froze.

At the top of the cave,

hundreds of exotic beasts hung upside down in a dense cluster.

They had slender, skin-and-bones bodies.

Large fleshy wings were folded along both sides of their backs.

They had no eyes, and the front of their bald skulls featured only shriveled nostrils.

And flared, massive eardrums.

The light screen of his right eye flickered in the darkness.

"[Blind Wind Bat]"

The faint firelight flickered in the air current.

The extremely thin eardrum of the nearest windbat suddenly twitched slightly.

Lin Ye's fingers quickly pinched down, snuffing out the wick.

The firelight died out instantly.

The stone cave plunged back into boundless darkness.
