191: Chapter 191 Poisonous Fog Repels Flies

Dark yellow vines were layered and intertwined, hanging crisscrossed between the canopy layers of the giant tree.

Lin Ye and Zhao Mengmeng used the vines to cushion their descent, falling all the way down.

Less than ten meters above their heads, the buzzing of the insect swarm's wings merged into a single sound.

The Bone-Eroding Fluorescence Flies dove at full speed.

Yellow-green acid continuously detached from the insects' tails, slamming down right beside them.

The dark purple broad leaves splashed by the acid were immediately burned through, creating smoking black holes.

Zhao Mengmeng, her belt locked by the Nano-wire, swung through a gap in mid-air.

"Still haven't shaken them off!"

Lin Ye gripped a thick vine tightly with his left hand, while his right hand wielded the horizontal saber, slicing upwards against the vine's skin.

Squelch.

Sap splattered, and a large cloud of dark yellow mist shot out from the severed vine.

A pungent odor permeated the air.

Zhao Mengmeng's eyes stung from the fumes, and she took two steps back, finding a steady footing on a branch.

"This smell is even more pungent than a hazmat suit that hasn't been washed in three days!"

Lin Ye didn't stop his blade, using the momentum to swing downward.

The second vine.

The third vine.

The fourth vine.

The consecutively severed vines sprayed out a large amount of yellow mist, which quickly wove together in mid-air to form a seamless wall of poisonous miasma.

The dozen or so Bone-Eroding Fluorescence Flies charging at the front slammed headlong into the yellow mist.

The moment their thin wings touched the poisonous mist, they twisted and melted instantly.

The stalling insects tumbled and crashed into the swarm behind them.

Their formation completely collapsed.

The abdomens of the flies contaminated by the poisonous mist spasmed, and the acid at their tails sprayed uncontrollably into the sea of insects.

The acid from their kin melted each other's wing membranes, and the air was filled with the crisp sounds of biting and colliding severed limbs.

A disgusting rain of green-juiced insects poured down.

The Great Xia Live Stream was flooded with barrage comments.

[Is that a natural insecticide?!]

[Who said Brother Eye was running for his life? He went into the poisonous zone to spread poison!]

[This counter-kill, I'd give it two hundred out of a hundred! Where are the trolls from the foreign sites who said landing meant certain death?]

The mockery in the Overseas Livestream came to an abrupt halt.

A few sporadic foreign language comments drifted by, all questioning if the Great Xia contestant was cheating.

At the USA observation deck, several ecology experts stared intently at the slow-motion footage on the big screen.

"Freeze it! The wind speed, the vine's elasticity, and the angle of the mist's diffusion all match up!"

"This isn't scientific... Did he even precisely calculate the arrangement of the vines he blind-cut?"

At the Great Xia observation deck, Lu Chen crossed his fingers, his gaze fixed on Lin Ye's calm Left Eye.

He didn't say a word.

The insect rain was still falling.

Dead insects mixed with acid smashed through the giant leaves, emitting a harsh corrosive sound.

The decaying leaf forest floor below churned as a result.

The Shadow Poison Ants set out, following the scent of acid and minced meat, and a black tide was rapidly climbing up along the tree roots.

Lin Ye raised his right arm.

The Abyss Thorn's main filament shot through the air, firmly biting into the trunk of a giant tree on his left that was wide enough for three people to hug.

The traction engine roared to life.

Their downward momentum was forcibly leveled out as they swung across several dead branches.

Lin Ye's boot kicked onto a protruding tree burl first.

Zhao Mengmeng was swung over by inertia, her shoulder and back slamming heavily against the bark, her fingers digging tightly into the dark brown grooves of the wood.

"This bark is unusually hard."

Lin Ye scanned beneath his feet.

The grooves were extremely deep, and weak wisps of fluorescence surged at the bottom.

The yellow mist above hadn't dissipated yet, and the swarm of flies was blocked on the periphery, daring only to circle and screech.

Lin Ye retracted the Nano-wire.

Colors alternated on his Left Eye's retina.

A large area of the tree trunk's surface was covered in deadly red light.

Only the area of the tree burl beneath his feet glowed with a very faint green.

The footing was safe.

He turned and stepped over to a dead fly stuck in the gap of a branch.

He drove his horizontal saber into the flesh, slicing diagonally along the insect's abdomen.

A round yellow-green poison sac slid out of the cavity.

Just as Zhao Mengmeng was about to get closer, Lin Ye held his blade horizontally.

"It corrodes bone, don't touch it."

"You're still digging it out?"

"It's useful."

Lin Ye picked up a snake scale fragment with his left hand and used it against the bark to shovel the poison sac into half of a scrap iron box lid.

He scraped a few globs of residual glue from the severed yellow vines with his horizontal saber and mixed them in.

The two bodily fluids mingled.

Tiny bubbles emerged densely, and the pungent acidic smell was suppressed by a fishy, bitter odor.

After a few seconds, it turned into a puddle of grayish-yellow gel.

Blue text appeared before his right eye.

[Temporary Isolation Gel]

Zhao Mengmeng understood.

"Is it for protection against insects?"

"It protects against spores and masks human scent."

Lin Ye used the tip of his blade to scoop up the gel and spread it evenly on the back of his left hand.

In his Left Eye's vision, the red light erosion on the skin covered by the gel was immediately blocked.

He tossed the iron box to Zhao Mengmeng.

"Smear it all over your body; your mouth, nose, boot seams, and joint blind spots must be completely covered."

Zhao Mengmeng caught the iron box and looked at the blob of yellowish-brown gel with disgust.

She reached in and scooped out a large chunk with her hand.

"If we go out with this paint job, the bugs will probably think we look pathetic."

As the gel touched her skin, it brought a sharp, bone-chilling numbness.

Zhao Mengmeng's eyes turned red from the stinging, but she applied it even faster.

Lin Ye unbuckled his backpack.

He first used the thick glue to completely seal the shockproof layer containing the dragon bone nail and the dormant valley seed.

Ensuring the foundation of national destiny was protected, he then tore off a bit of the remaining glue and smeared it over the cracked armor on his shoulder.

Zhao Mengmeng slapped his hand away.

She scraped the last bit of thick glue from the bottom of her box and forcefully smeared it onto the edge of Lin Ye's wound.

The muscles on Lin Ye's shoulder tightened.

Zhao Mengmeng withdrew her hand, her voice heavy.

"If you die, I won't be able to carry this life-sustaining pot for Great Xia."

Lin Ye hung the empty backpack back on his shoulder.

"That's right, this pot is too heavy."

Zhao Mengmeng carefully smeared the remaining base glue over the gaps in the Magnetic Rail Crossbow, protecting the precision rails.

The swarm of flies on the periphery hadn't dispersed, and the poisonous ants at the bottom were closing in.

There was nowhere to retreat in the insect abyss.

Lin Ye opened his Left Eye a crack.

In the middle layer of the canopy ahead, a narrow green path of survival extended deep into the red sea.

They had to walk along the giant tree's horizontal branches.

His gaze had just fallen back to the giant tree trunk beneath his feet.

A piercing, agonizing pain shot through his left temple.

A dangerously dark, thick red light was rapidly moving upward along the internal structure of the tree trunk!

Lin Ye closed his eyes.

A dull, highly oppressive vibration came from beneath his feet.

Click, click.

Zhao Mengmeng leveled the Magnetic Rail Crossbow in her hands.

"There's something alive inside."

Lin Ye gripped the hilt of his horizontal saber tightly.

"I can hear it chewing the wood."

The source of the vibration rapidly drew closer.

The fluorescence in the tree bark grooves began to flash wildly on and off.

"This crossbow only has one shot left that can stabilize its trajectory." Zhao Mengmeng stared intently at the bulging tree bark ahead.

A countdown warning popped up on the light screen of Lin Ye's right eye.

The massive outline of the red entity had already taken shape on his retina.

The armor was extremely thick, and its tonnage was terrifying.

"Wait for it to show its head."

Before he finished speaking.

The tree trunk in front suddenly exploded!

Purple-black wood chips mixed with foul-smelling tree sap rained down on them.

A black-brown giant insect over five meters long burst out from the wood!

Thick, heavy horn armor covered its head and thorax, and two two-meter-long serrated scythe legs were raised high and brought down.

Its forelimbs slashed into the tree trunk, slicing a giant, half-foot-deep crack into the trunk that was wide enough for three people to hug.

Their path was completely cut off by this Heavy Armor Scythe Rhino Bug.

[Heavy Armor Scythe Rhino Bug]

The shockwave pushed Zhao Mengmeng's boot soles back two inches, leaving half of her foot hanging over the edge of the bark.

Lin Ye pulled out a secondary Nano-wire, wrapped it around her wrist, and forcibly yanked her half a step inward.

The Heavy Armor Scythe Rhino Bug turned its massive head, its dark red compound eyes locked tightly onto the two of them.

Bubbling corrosive fluid dripped onto the ground from its cracked mouthparts.

Zhao Mengmeng gripped the Magnetic Rail Crossbow tightly.

"If we don't fight now, are we saving it for the New Year?"

Lin Ye stared at the pair of swinging heavy scythes.

"Follow my command."

"Its armor is even thicker than that machine monster from before!"

The giant insect's thick lower limbs dug into the tree bark, its massive body charging forward with overwhelming force.

Lin Ye dragged Zhao Mengmeng and rolled to the limit toward the groove on the right.

The giant scythes slashed into their previous position.

Wood chips flew, and purple liquid sprayed out along the tree cracks.

The smell of blood caused the swarm of Shadow Poison Ants below to accelerate their upward climb, and the base of the tree turned completely black.

The Great Xia Live Stream barrage paused for half a second before flooding with comments again.

[Damn! A five-meter-long armored bug, it split the tree trunk so easily!]

[This is impossible to penetrate! It's physically immune!]

[There's only one bullet left, where do we hit? The eyes or the mouth?]

Lin Ye forced his Left Eye open during the high-speed movement.

Blood red!

The Heavy Armor Scythe Rhino Bug was entirely red; its head armor, back spines, and scythe legs had no weak points.

His vision cut downward at high speed.

When the giant insect's forelimbs exerted force to lift upward.

At the base of the third abdominal appendage, as the muscles stretched, a white line of cartilage less than a finger's width was revealed.

It vanished in half a breath.

An extremely tricky blind spot.

To hit that spot, he had to force it to lift its dual scythes to the highest point with all its might.

Lin Ye retracted his Left Eye, and six main filaments from his right arm shot out in all directions, nailing into the horizontal branches within five meters.

"Mengmeng, set up the crossbow!"

Zhao Mengmeng half-crouched and locked the crossbow stock.

"Are you going to use yourself as bait again?"

"It's hungry."

Lin Ye stomped his military boot hard onto the tree trunk, and the electromagnetic traction engine roared at full power!

His entire body was pulled upward in the opposite direction into mid-air.

The giant insect's mouthparts hissed and shrieked, locking onto the living thing in the air.

At the highest point, Lin Ye drew his horizontal saber and smashed the back of the blade against a thick branch beside him.

Clang!

The sharp sound pierced the clouds.

The Heavy Armor Scythe Rhino Bug fell into a complete frenzy, its hind limbs pressing down, and its dual scythes slashed upward in rage toward the figure in mid-air!

A glimmer of survival in a dead end, forcibly opened by Lin Ye.
