179: Chapter 179 Leaping Over the Cliff

Zhao Mengmeng loosened her fingers, her left hand hooking tightly onto the sinew strap around Lin Ye's waist.

The two disengaged from the sliding buckle, their bodies plummeting straight into the bottomless abyss.

The severed iron cable swung toward the cliff face with terrifying kinetic energy, whistling just over their scalps.

If they had been half a breath slower, they would have been crushed into meat paste by the iron cable on the spot.

The rising whirlwind from the bottom of the valley immediately slammed into them.

The airflow, laden with bone fragments and rust powder, formed a powerful resistance, forcibly cushioning their downward momentum.

The gale savagely battered their armor, pouring directly through the gaps in their windproof masks.

Lin Ye opened his Left Eye wide against the wind pressure.

His retina was filled with intertwined, swirling crimson trajectories.

At the core of the wind eye, where the red strangling lines were most dense, only a single speck of green light was moving at high speed.

On the opposite cliff face a hundred meters away, a rocky protrusion emitted a dim green light.

The straight-line distance far exceeded the theoretical range of the Dark Weaver.

But the rising airflow was forcibly lifting them higher.

"Lock on!" Lin Ye roared.

Zhao Mengmeng's Wind-Chasing Claw pierced directly through the outer ring of his tactical belt, its three claws locking tightly.

"If it breaks, we'll both become meat patties!"

Lin Ye extended his right arm horizontally.

The metal casing of the Dark Weaver had become so hot it was warping, and the glow of the traction crystal core was faint.

A cracking sound of misaligned gears erupted from deep within the mechanism.

Lin Ye pressed his thumb hard onto the forced firing button.

"Hiss!"

The ultra-thin nano-secondary line pierced through the gale, forcibly pulled into an arc by the turbulent currents.

The anchor hook at the end of the line grazed two wind blades, its trajectory looking like it was about to veer off course.

Lin Ye grabbed the ejected secondary line base with his bare left hand, forcibly pushing it to the left while enduring the intense pain.

The anchor hook deflected an inch and firmly nailed into the green protrusion on the opposite bank.

"Retract!"

The Dark Weaver engine emitted a loud roar.

The two were dragged at high speed by the grappling hook, slamming toward the opposite bank.

Zhao Mengmeng hung by her Wind-Chasing Claw at Lin Ye's waist, her entire body pulled straight in mid-air.

A wind blade sliced diagonally across, instantly shaving off half of her thickened heel.

She gritted her teeth tightly, her grip strength not diminishing in the slightest.

The black stone platform magnified rapidly.

At this impact speed, hitting the wall directly would inevitably shatter their bones inch by inch.

Using his Left Eye's peripheral vision, Lin Ye locked onto a green slope on the edge of the platform, covered in weathered stone grooves.

He grabbed Zhao Mengmeng's shoulder strap and pulled her in front of him.

"Cover your head!"

Lin Ye used the momentum to roll sideways, his back slamming hard against the slope, his armor grinding against the stone grooves and sparking blindingly.

Zhao Mengmeng followed, crashing down; he pressed his hand against the back of her neck, and they rolled along the slope deep into the platform.

The two plowed two deep furrows through the debris-covered ground before barely coming to a stop.

"Snap!"

The Dark Weaver's last secondary line snapped completely, and thick, acrid white smoke poured from the bracer mechanism; it was already ruined.

Zhao Mengmeng lay on her back on the black stone, gasping for air.

"If there's ever another flying stunt like this, I'm jumping off a building first."

Lin Ye braced himself with his horizontal saber, kneeling halfway up, and pulled his tactical backpack in front of him.

The Great Xia Live Stream barrage exploded like a geyser.

[Taking off with the whirlwind? What normal person would think of that move!]

[Where are those people from overseas who said they were definitely going to die? Does this slap to the face sting?]

[The Dark Weaver was patched up and managed to survive this deadly flight; it was so worth it!]

Lin Ye reached his hands into the shock-absorbing layer at the bottom of the backpack.

The outer skin had split another two inches, but the items packed most securely inside were completely unharmed.

The dark gold dragon bone nails, dormant valley seeds, and stone box fragments were all intact.

Zhao Mengmeng unhooked the Wind-Chasing Claw from his belt.

The three claws were deformed, and the retrieval slot was jammed halfway.

She tried prying it twice with force, but it didn't budge.

"Brother Lin, the equipment slots are all out of commission."

Lin Ye stood up: "Keep them for now; we can use them as hammers later."

The iron cable they had come on was already severed in the abyss.

The other two iron cables were also being whipped around crazily by the turbulence; there was no way to go back.

At the end of the platform stood a massive bronze door, its surface covered with thousands of fist-sized holes.

The sides of the door were pressed against heavy sliding rails; there were no door rings and no keyholes.

A gale was gushing out from inside through those holes.

The fine sound of the wind was sharp and piercing, and dry, clashing sounds of jammed mechanisms came from within.

Zhao Mengmeng pulled out a bent black bamboo arrow and probed one of the holes.

The arrow shaft had barely entered half an inch before it was shredded by the violent wind pressure inside the hole.

The broken wood bounced off the stone wall behind them, making a crisp sound.

"The wind pressure has locked the gears." Lin Ye stared at the bronze door.

"If we block the wrong hole, the airflow inside will explode directly."

Lin Ye opened his Left Eye silently.

The thousands of holes on the door surface were immediately layered.

Most of the hole edges overflowed with blinding dark red light, symbolizing irreversible, destructive backlash.

Several holes had dense gray spots; those were accumulated pollution impurities.

Only seven holes had a faint pale green glow at their edges.

Two points at the top left, one at the bottom right, three on the central axis, and one hidden at the very bottom.

These seven points had the weakest wind force and were the pivot balance points of the entire wind pressure locking array.

If they were blocked, the internal door bolts would unlock and loosen due to the redirection of the airflow.

Lin Ye closed his Left Eye and quickly sifted through the remains of the Challengers scattered on the ground.

A pile of bone fragments with very few gray spots, beast sinew straps, and remnant wings of Wind Bats were raked to his feet.

"Roll the plugs."

The two moved extremely quickly.

Using bone fragments as the core, wrapping them with remnant wings, and then tightly binding them with Sand Spider sinew straps.

Seven hard and thick wind plugs were formed in an instant.

Lin Ye grabbed the first plug and reversed his horizontal saber.

"I'll smash it in, and you hold onto my belt from behind."

Zhao Mengmeng didn't waste any words; she grabbed his tactical belt with both hands and pressed her center of gravity down to the limit.

Lin Ye raised his hand and shoved the plug hard into one of the green-lit holes at the top left.

He slammed the hilt of his horizontal saber down with the momentum.

"Bang!"

The plug was driven in three inches, and the sharp wind gushing from the hole was forcefully stifled.

A deep sound of mechanism engagement followed from inside the door.

Second one.

Third one.

With every hammer blow, the resistance from the door surface increased exponentially.

When the fourth plug was smashed in, a violent reverse airflow suddenly erupted from the central axis hole.

Lin Ye's figure was pushed backward by the force.

Zhao Mengmeng remained firmly planted, her military boots scraping two blinding white marks on the black stone.

"Block it!"

Lin Ye used the force to push forward, delivering three heavy strikes with the hilt to force the fourth plug in.

The fifth hole was located in the bottom right corner.

The black sand gale spraying along the ground scraped their cheeks painfully.

Zhao Mengmeng knelt on one knee, holding her tactical backpack in front of Lin Ye to block the sand.

Lin Ye smashed the fifth plug in amidst the sand flow.

The sixth plug entered the hole, and the bronze door surface shook.

The seventh hole was hidden in a dead corner at the bottom of the door; Lin Ye kicked away the pile of bone fragments blocking the front.

The wind here was the weakest, but the green light was the most stable.

The plug had just touched the hole entrance.

A violent chain backlash of the mechanism erupted from inside the bronze door!

The wind pressure from the thousands of holes soared simultaneously, and the first six plugs were subjected to internal impact, visibly bulging outward.

Lin Ye laid his horizontal saber flat across the protruding edges of the first six holes.

"Press the central axis!"

Zhao Mengmeng lunged forward, pressing her crossbow and shoulder armor against the central plug; her arms were shaken into afterimages by the violently vibrating air.

Lin Ye's right arm muscles bulged high as he gripped the last plug.

"Bang!"

A heavy, powerful, muffled blow.

The seventh plug was hammered in and sealed!

In an instant, all the whistling and wind sounds in the canyon ceased abruptly.

The silence lasted only half a second.

"Snap!"

A huge, low sound of mechanism rotation rang out from behind the door.

The sliding rails on both sides of the massive bronze door vibrated violently, and thousands of holes simultaneously spewed out a blast of scorching white steam.

The massive door slid open to both sides.

There was no wind in the passageway.

There was only a dark red stone path extending into the depths.

A pungent heatwave mixed with sulfur, scorched earth, and scalding steam rushed toward them, hitting their nostrils directly.

The light screen popped up on the right side right on time.

[Rift Wind Canyon cleared]

[Entering next level]

Lin Ye looked back at the return path swallowed by the abyss.

"Let's go."

He stepped over the bronze threshold and into the depths of the dark red passageway.
