27: Chapter 27 Crushing the Insect Swarm!

The dense forest at night is even more vibrant than during the day.

Strange plants emit scattered, brilliant fluorescence, dreamlike as a bubble.

However, this beauty is merely a facade; hidden deep within the dense forest lies an unpredictable abyss.

Great Qin Territory.

Su Yang stood atop the city gate with his hands behind his back, gazing into the distance.

The colorful dense forest spreads along the land, meeting the night at the edge of his vision.

There, the night seems like an abyss, swallowing all light.

A chilling evening breeze blows from the depths of the dense forest.

Besides the sound of the wind, the mechanical whirring that resounds from time to time drills into Su Yang's ears.

Under his arrangement, 40 Armored Soldiers are evenly distributed along the top of the city wall, standing in battle formation.

The four sides of the territory's walls are of equal length, with 10-meter-high watchtowers at each of the four corners.

Because the direction and waves of the Xenomorphs' attack cannot be determined.

Therefore, Su Yang has set up soldier guard posts on all four walls.

Each wall is assigned 4 soldiers: 2 Armored Elite Soldiers and 2 Armored Crossbowmen.

They are the fixed defense for each wall and will not change according to the battle situation.

The rest are the four watchtowers, with 6 soldiers deployed in each.

3 Armored Crossbowmen and 3 Armored Elite Soldiers.

They are mobile defense forces that will quickly support the areas where the battle is most intense.

This arrangement can greatly reduce the time required for support and ensure that every wall has defense.

Whoosh---

A strong wind strikes, and the fluorescent plants in the dense forest sway with the wind, resembling a river of stars.

Under this magnificent night, Su Yang's mind suddenly tightens.

They are here!!

The Armored Crossbowman located on the southeast watchtower is the first to discover traces of the Xenomorphs!

As expected of a Crossbowman, to be able to discover traces from a thousand meters away against a background that could be called light pollution.

Su Yang's thoughts flash, and he quickly organizes the troops.

The mobile units located at the southwest and northeast watchtowers depart immediately to take up defensive positions on the south and east walls.

Rustle, rustle, rustle---

Rustle, rustle, rustle---

The sound of the Xenomorphs marching grows louder.

All the Crossbowmen have their bolts nocked, waiting only for Su Yang's order.

Considering the influence of the plants on the crossbow bolts, Su Yang does not order an attack at the furthest distance.

He is waiting, waiting for the moment for a killing blow.

Rustle, rustle, rustle---

Rustle, rustle, rustle---

The footsteps of the Xenomorphs get faster and closer.

Amidst the noisy marching sounds, the piercing screech of the Brain Bug also appears.

"Fire!!"

Hum---

At Su Yang's command, the Crossbowmen fire in unison.

The sound of the crossbow guns firing explodes in his ears, buzzing repeatedly.

The two-finger-wide crossbow bolts are like soul-reaping demons, leaving trails in the air.

The speed of the arrows is so fast that it is impossible to detect with the naked eye.

After hearing a hum, Su Yang sees the distant plants shatter and fall in rows.

Almost at the instant the crossbow guns are fired, 10 kill notifications appear simultaneously on the panel.

[Killed Level 1 Tyranid Stinger, command points +20]

[Killed Level 2 Tyranid Stinger, command points +30]

[Killed Level 1 Tyranid Stinger, command points +20]

[Killed Level 2 Tyranid Stinger, command points +30]

...

Instant kill!

This is the power of the heavy-duty powered crossbow guns!

Hiss---

The volley of crossbow guns completely shatters the silence of the night.

The Insect Swarm in the dense forest falls into a frenzy, rushing toward the city wall even faster.

The gears on the crossbow mechanism rotate slowly, and the three special bowstrings are re-nocked under powerful mechanical tension.

The Armored Crossbowmen take out crossbow bolts from their lower backs, reload, aim, and fire again!

Hum---

Another volley!

This time, Su Yang sees with his own eyes the moment the Xenomorphs are shattered by the crossbow bolts.

The bronze crossbow bolts spin and shoot toward the bodies of the Stinger Bugs.

Entering, churning up everything they touch.

Piercing through, and sinking into the soil behind them.

The hit Stinger Bugs are like puppets with cut strings, collapsing to the ground in an instant.

The first batch of Stinger Bugs to rush out of the dense forest instantly turn into wreckage.

Another row of kill notifications appears neatly.

[Killed Level 2 Tyranid Stinger, command points +30]

[Killed Level 2 Tyranid Stinger, command points +30]

[Killed Level 2 Tyranid Stinger, command points +30]

...

The Crossbowmen reload their crossbow guns, and more of the Insect Swarm rushes out of the dense forest.

Densely packed, surging forward like a tide.

Hiss---

In an instant, the Insect Swarm attacks the foot of the city wall.

Unlike the last time when they could break directly into the base, this time the towering Great Qin city wall keeps them out.

They roar and jump upward, attacking the city wall with their insect blades.

Exhausting all means is of no avail; at most, they can only leave scratches on the stone wall.

Hum---

The Crossbowmen finish reloading, and another volley is fired.

The Stinger Bugs at the foot of the wall are torn into pieces by the crossbow bolts, falling in droves.

As the next batch of Stinger Bugs arrives, the Brain Bug in the dense forest emits a sharp screech.

They realize something.

The Stinger Bugs at the foot of the wall no longer attack the city wall in vain, but begin to trample on each other.

They step on the bodies of other Xenomorphs to jump upward, stacking on top of each other.

The Brain Bug has found the only way to achieve a Breakthrough of the city wall: to cross over it.

But this city wall is not so easy to cross!

While the Crossbowmen are reloading, the Armored Elite Soldiers step forward to the edge of the city wall.

They hold swords with both hands, and the steam-powered devices on their backs begin to charge.

Just as the Stinger Bugs are stepping on their kin, about to climb onto the city wall.

The Armored Elite Soldiers swing their bronze swords violently, shattering their delusions.

With the city wall present, the Armored Elite Soldiers only need to wait for the Stinger Bugs to rush up one by one to their deaths.

There are more and more Stinger Bugs at the foot of the wall, and the number of Stinger Bugs climbing onto the city wall at the same time is also increasing.

As the defensive pressure gradually increases, the Crossbowmen finish reloading and fire another volley downward.

This time, because the Stinger Bugs are stacked on top of each other, they are extremely dense.

Each crossbow bolt can pierce through several Xenomorphs.

With a loud hum, the offensive just formed by the Insect Swarm is instantly destroyed.

Shells, blood, and limbs splash everywhere, covering the entire ground.

Countless kill notifications pour out, filling Su Yang's entire panel.
