58: Chapter 58 A Frenzied Barrage, an Unstoppable Swarm of Insects

The sharp shriek of a Brain Bug echoed over the dense forest.

The sound of the dense Insect Swarm moving came from the cave entrance; the Insect Swarm was rapidly deploying its combat forces.

General Li Xin stood behind the troops, while the Armored Elite Soldiers and Crossbowmen ahead had already set up their formation.

The formation was nothing special; it was just roughly spread out in a line, with staggered rows to facilitate firing.

There were no flanking tactics or surprise attacks to catch the enemy off guard.

General Li Xin simply had the troops hold their formation in place, quietly waiting for the enemy to deploy.

This was not because General Li Xin underestimated the enemy, but because he knew this enemy did not require any serious attention.

Before setting out, Su Yang had already told him about all the unit types the second-generation Hive possessed and the tactics they might employ.

And the Scout's detailed reconnaissance had provided him with the approximate size of the Insect Swarm and the surrounding terrain.

In other words, he had full knowledge of the Insect Swarm's combat power and the tactics it might execute.

The discrepancy in combat power between the two sides was too great; he only needed to set up the formation and wait for the Insect Swarm to throw itself into death.

This was a battle with a predetermined outcome.

Rustle, rustle, rustle...

Just as expected, the Insect Swarm swarmed out of the cave entrance.

At the same time, two barely perceptible raised trails appeared on the ground.

General Li Xin waved his hand, and the Armored Crossbowmen fired the first round of crossbow bolts.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh...

The sound of mechanisms rang out, and the crossbow bolts shot out like phantoms.

The naked eye could not see the trajectory of the bolts in the air; one could only see the Insect Swarm that had just poured out of the cave entrance all collapsing to the ground.

The powerful impact caused the crossbow bolts themselves to deform, let alone the Stinger Bugs that were hit.

The high-speed bolts rotated as they pierced into the bodies of the Stinger Bugs, drilling wrist-sized holes in their torsos.

Green blood gushed out from the holes, and the Stinger Bugs instantly collapsed to the ground.

The first batch of Stinger Bugs was wiped out, and soon the second batch rushed up.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh...

Without any interval, the Crossbowmen's second round of firing began.

After upgrading to level 2, the mechanical devices were improved, and the Crossbowmen could now load two crossbow bolts at a time.

This meant that within the same reloading time, the firepower of the level 2 Imperial Armor Crossbowmen had doubled.

The Crossbowman troops were divided into two rows; one row would reload after firing, while the other row would open fire.

Now, as long as the distribution was reasonable, it was difficult for the reloading vacuum periods of the past to occur again.

Under the ceaseless, powerful firepower, waves of the Insect Swarm rushed out of the cave entrance and then collapsed, turning into waves of wreckage.

The Armored Elite Soldiers stationed at the front didn't even get a chance to touch the Stinger Bugs!

While the Crossbowmen were firing frantically, General Li Xin, who was at the very back of the formation, also moved.

He took the cylindrical device from his lower back and pressed it.

Clang, clang, clang...

With the operation of mechanical parts, various gears and rods constantly extended outward, and soon it transformed into a long spear.

General Li Xin pressed it again, and the tip of the long spear began to rotate at high speed.

He held the long spear high, and the power units at each joint began to charge up.

Aiming at the ground and confirming the position, he threw it down violently.

Bang!

The long spear pierced directly through the ground, striking a Burrowing Giant Insect swimming in the soil.

The long spear continued to rotate inside the Giant Insect's body, and a tragic screech rang out.

General Li Xin gripped the spear shaft and thrust it downward violently, putting the Giant Insect to sleep, then pulled out the long spear and turned around quickly.

Behind him, a Giant Insect that had burrowed out of the ground came face-to-face with the long spear.

Squelch...

It was gutted, and the screaming stopped quickly.

General Li Xin removed the long spear and shook the blood off the shaft.

At the same time he finished dealing with the two Giant Insects, the battle outside the cave entrance had also ended.

The corpses of the Stinger Bugs were piled up in heaps in front of the cave entrance, looking exceptionally tragic.

Under the frenzied firepower of the level 2 Crossbowmen, they didn't even have a chance to engage the enemy.

This was the crushing power of combat superiority!

When the disparity in combat power between the two sides reaches a certain level, using any strategy or technique is futile.

Pushing aside the corpses in front of the cave entrance, General Li Xin directly led a squad into the Hive.

There were still Xenomorphs ambushing in the dark within the Bug Swarm Tide, wanting to play at urban warfare.

But unfortunately, with combat power of General Li Xin's caliber leading the way, all ambushes seemed laughable.

Killing their way into the Queen Bug chamber, an Exterminator that had just been produced was still lying on the ground.

The Exterminator was nearly half a meter large even in its larval stage, looking quite terrifying.

General Li Xin followed Su Yang's instructions and wiped out every living creature inside the insect den.

The second-generation Hive, which had originally caused trouble for Su Yang, now had no power to fight back against the Imperial Armor Troops.

After destroying the mother den, General Li Xin did not continue to campaign against the second Hive.

For one, the second Hive was located to the southeast of the territory, a long distance away, and fuel was tight.

Secondly, Su Yang had specifically instructed that the second Hive was to be used as a testing ground for new unit types.

Having captured the Heart of the Hive, General Li Xin led his troops back to the capital...

...

When Su Yang woke up the next day, a fresh Heart of the Hive was already lying in his backpack.

He opened the panel and looked through the battle records from last night.

The entire battle had no twists or turns; the Imperial Armor Legion led by General Li Xin had directly crushed the Insect Swarm.

Very good. Once the combat power of the Skyfire Guard is tested today, the next step is to launch an attack on the Salt Flats!

The Heart of the Hive has arrived; it is time to see the power of the Great Qin Skyfire Guard.

After washing up, Su Yang came to the front of the Imperial Armor Camp and clicked on the panel.

Gunpowder Research still had 10 hours left; without unlocking it, he couldn't summon the Skyfire Guard.

But if he waited for those 10 hours, it would be a complete waste of time.

He could waste anything but the development time in the early stages.

Su Yang did not hesitate any longer and slammed the Heart of the Hive, which could reduce time by 24h, into the Thousand Mechanism Tower.

[Used item Heart of the Hive, reduced research time required by 20h]

It reduced the time by 20 hours!?

Su Yang's eyes widened, and he hurriedly opened the panel.

He discovered that both technologies, Gunpowder Research and Iron Smelting Technology, had completed their research!

The Heart of the Hive accelerated the research speed of the entire Thousand Mechanism Tower, so by inputting the Heart of the Hive, all technologies within the Thousand Mechanism Tower would receive a time reduction.

After the Thousand Mechanism Tower was upgraded, it actually had this effect; this was a surprise that Su Yang had not expected at all!

He had originally prepared to waste half of the Heart of the Hive, but he hadn't expected that because of the level 3 Thousand Mechanism Tower's mechanism, there was almost no waste.

For a Huaxia person with the fine quality of thriftiness, this was simply too satisfying.

Carrying joy, Su Yang opened the Imperial Armor Camp panel.

Great Qin Skyfire Guard, the territory's first thermal weapon unit.

What kind of power would it have?

[command points - 4000]

[Great Qin Skyfire Guard summoning...]
