60: The embarrassed god of war Xiao Tianyu

Lu Chen was clad in a dark, well-tailored suit that accentuated his broad shoulders and firm waist.

Every gesture exuded an innate nobility and composure.

His face was stern, his eyes as deep as an abyss, and his thin lips, beneath a high nose bridge, were slightly pursed, conveying a reassuringly steady aura.

This calm demeanor stood in stark contrast to the panicked crowd around him, like a steadfast reef amidst turbulent waves.

The surrounding clamor and chaos merely served as his backdrop, an insignificant background noise.

Lu Chen raised his eyes, his gaze slowly sweeping over the maids.

That look carried a palpable pressure; wherever it landed, the maids' sobs unconsciously quieted, and their trembling bodies became less severe.

Xun Xiaoxiao and Chen Mengyao, who had been clutching their clothes with faces full of terror, felt a surge of strength upon meeting his gaze, and their breathing gradually steadied.

Lu Chen's hands were casually tucked into his suit pockets, his posture tall and straight, his back not bending an inch, like a lone pine tree defying frost and snow, unmoved by even a raging storm.

He parted his lips slightly, his voice low yet penetrating, and calmly said, "No need to worry, all of you may return."

His tone was calm, yet it possessed an undeniable magic that instantly soothed everyone's taut nerves.

The maids looked at each other, their fear gradually dissipating, and they all curtsied.

Then, they hastily straightened their clothes, wiped away their tears, and, supporting each other, hurried back.

Many maids frequently looked back at Lu Chen, their eyes filled with awe and dependence, like the lingering fear and relief of a drowning person clutching a life raft.

As Chen Mengyao left, her steps dragged, her gaze fixed on Lu Chen, as if she had something to say but couldn't find the words.

She was conflicted, her lips parting and closing, her hands unconsciously clutching the hem of her clothes, knuckles white from the effort.

She wanted to ask what caused this sudden disaster and if Lu Chen would be in danger.

But looking at Lu Chen's stern face and feeling his powerful aura, she ultimately lost her courage, the inexplicable timidity in her heart swallowing her words.

While she hesitated, Xun Xiaoxiao tugged at her sleeve, gently urging:

"Let's go, Mengyao. CEO Lu has spoken. It's too dangerous here. We should leave quickly."

Chen Mengyao bit her lip, finally turning to leave with Xun Xiaoxiao.

Before departing, her gaze lingered wistfully on Lu Chen's retreating figure for a moment, her heart full of melancholy.

Lu Chen stood in the manor, looking up at the smoke-filled sky, as if assessing the trajectory of the battle.

After a moment, he turned his head, his gaze precisely directed at the window of Gao Xuewei's room.

Lu Chen's thin lips curved into a faint yet profoundly reassuring smile, a smile like warm light that pierced directly into Gao Xuewei's eyes.

Gao Xuewei had been filled with anxiety, her hands clutching the bedsheet, white and aching, her mind a chaotic mess of unknown fears and speculations about the battle.

The moment her gaze met Lu Chen's, it was as if a warm current flowed through her heart, smoothing away all her scattered thoughts.

She had always felt that Lu Chen, though young, possessed an extraordinary composure.

Now, she was even more certain that as long as this man stood by her side, even if the sky fell and floods raged, she would find stable refuge.

The accumulated panic and unease quietly receded, replaced by a strange sense of security.

She slightly loosened her grip on the bedsheet and gently nodded at Lu Chen, her eyes full of trust, having completely entrusted her and Xiao Xi's safety to him.

At this moment, in her eyes, Lu Chen seemed like a deity descended to earth, radiating a reassuring aura.

His tall figure seemed capable of creating a safe haven for her and her daughter; as long as he was there, even if the sky fell and war raged, what did it matter?

In their shared gaze, without a single word, Lu Chen nodded slightly, as if silently promising to protect her.

Gao Xuewei let out a soft breath, her eyes reddening, her heart overflowing with gratitude and trust, complex emotions receding like a tide, leaving only tranquility.

A gentle breeze outside the window stirred, blowing down a few withered blossoms from the branches, which drifted slowly.

Lu Chen withdrew his gaze, his smile fading.

He turned to face the manor gate, his face returning to its stern expression, his eyes fixed on the battle-torn area, his figure like a towering mountain, unmoving and unshaken.

The powerful aura emanating from him was like an invisible armor, firmly guarding everything behind him.

Lu Chen walked steadily towards the manor gate... Outside the manor,

War God Xiao Tianyu pressed against the wall, veins bulging on his forehead, writhing like angry little snakes.

His face was so dark it seemed to drip ink, a terrifying black.

Every gunshot, every scream from his subordinates, was like a heavy hammer striking his heart, making his chest churn with surging Qi and blood.

He watched helplessly as his warriors fell in swathes like mown wheat, their numbers rapidly dwindling.

The once mighty army was now scattered, the remnants struggling desperately in a hail of gunfire.

His eyes were wide and bloodshot, fixed intently on the battlefield, as if his gaze could incinerate everything before him.

His hands clenched into fists, knuckles white from excessive force, emitting crisp 'crack' sounds, as if his fists could shatter the air in the next second.

Heavy breaths puffed from his nostrils, his labored panting drowned out by the intense gunfire.

His chest rose and fell violently, his entire being like an enraged yet trapped beast, filled with fury but nowhere to vent it!!

"How is this possible?!"

War God Xiao Tianyu roared in his heart, his brow furrowed, creasing into a deep ' river' character, his face etched with shock and suspicion.

His proud War God Hall elites, all seasoned warriors, had crawled their way out of mountains of corpses and seas of blood.

They could move like phantoms through gunfire, taking enemy lives, and had never been so disheveled against any foe in the past.

But now,

these guards of the Lu family were not at all at a disadvantage; their marksmanship was precise, their coordination seamless, their tactical training extremely high, and their actions exuded the competence of long-term training, every move displaying fierce bravery.

"What trick is the Lu family hiding? How can mere house guards possess such strength!"

War God Xiao Tianyu gritted his teeth, forcing out this harsh remark, his heart churning with unwillingness and indignation.

In his understanding, the guards of a private residence were merely ordinary housekeepers, how could they compare to the elites of his War God Hall, who had endured countless life-and-death trials and achieved illustrious military feats?

But the scene before him was a harsh slap, shattering his certainty and arrogance.

A stray bullet flew past his cheek, the gust of wind it created cutting his skin, leaving a bloody mark.

But War God Xiao Tianyu seemed oblivious; his entire focus was on the brutal slaughter on the battlefield.

He watched his subordinates being suppressed by firepower, unable to lift their heads; some, to cover their comrades, roared and lunged towards enemy muzzles, blood mist exploding as their bodies slowly fell.

Others, severely wounded, still crawled painstakingly in pools of blood, attempting to fire back even a single shot.

Such a sight made War God Xiao Tianyu's eyes almost burst, his rage nearly incinerating his reason.

He violently shook off his subordinate who was pulling him, preparing to charge forward again, roaring:

"Hold your ground! When has War God Hall ever been so pathetic!"

But just as he took a step, a rocket exploded nearby!

The concussive blast, carrying shrapnel and debris, howled towards him, forcing him back to the corner of the wall... At this moment, War God Xiao Tianyu was utterly disheveled.

His usual composure and confidence were gone, replaced only by endless regret and a raging fire of vengeance churning wildly in his heart.

He knew he had underestimated the enemy today, but he couldn't fathom when the Lu family had recruited and trained such a terrifying guard force!

Just then,

a subordinate rushed to War God Xiao Tianyu's side, knelt on one knee, head bowed, and reported in a hurried voice tinged with apprehension:

"Hall Master, the enemy's defenses are tight, and their firepower is well-equipped. The number of men we brought this time... I'm afraid it's not enough."

Before he could finish, War God Xiao Tianyu, like a lit powder keg, exploded instantly!
