65: "Injured" Lu Chen! Life is like a play, it all depends on acting!

Lu Chen slightly narrowed his eyes, a hint of disdain flashed in his long, narrow pupils, and the corners of his mouth curved into a slight sneer.

His expression remained indifferent, and he didn't even lift an eyelid.

His hands were casually clasped behind his back, as if the scene before him was nothing more than a boring farce.

The strong afternoon light hit his face, and in the interplay of light and shadow, his inherent nobility and aloofness were further highlighted.

His tone was flat, without a ripple: “You need to understand, it’s not that I won’t let you take them, but that they simply don’t want to leave with you.

They are right there; I have never confined them.”

“Also, you think too highly of yourself.

The Lu family doesn’t need the War God Hall.”

These words were like a basin of cold water, dousing Xiao Tianyu’s last shred of hope.

In an instant, the surroundings seemed to fall silent.

Xiao Tianyu’s lips parted slightly, as if he wanted to speak but held back.

He glanced at the still indifferent Gao Xuewei, and finally, his Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed the bitterness in his heart.

After a long while, he took a deep breath, as if making a huge decision, and slowly walked towards Lu Chen.

Security Captain Wang Qiang saw Xiao Tianyu approaching and took a quick step forward, about to raise his hand to stop him.

Lu Chen shook his head slightly and said softly, “No need, let him come over.”

Xiao Tianyu stood still in front of Lu Chen, his body trembling slightly.

His eyes were red, filled with an unspoken plea: “Then please help me persuade them, alright?”

Xiao Tianyu secretly mused that his relationship with his wife and daughter was now strained, yet Lu Chen seemed to have their deep trust.

Perhaps if he stepped in and said a few good words, there might still be room for a turnaround.

Even if he had to humble himself and beg, he couldn't care less.

Lu Chen first froze, then the corners of his mouth curved into an extremely mocking smile, his eyes and brows full of derision.

He tilted his head back slightly, staring directly at Xiao Tianyu, the contempt in his eyes undisguised, as if scrutinizing a failure: “You are truly garbage.

Xuewei was really blind to have been with you.”

“What did you say?!”

Xiao Tianyu instantly flew into a rage.

Veins bulged on his neck, and he roared, like a completely enraged beast, raising his hand uncontrollably to push Lu Chen.

This push only used about thirty percent of his strength, merely an unconscious venting of emotion.

But what Xiao Tianyu didn’t expect was that Lu Chen seemed to be hit by a great force, his body staggered backward, and he fell to the ground with a “thud,” raising a small cloud of dust.

He clutched his chest with both hands, his face instantly turning ashen, his brow tightly furrowed, gasping for breath in large gulps.

His acting was truly superb.

The moment he fell, his robes fluttered, his hair was disheveled, revealing his disheveled state.

He even coughed a few times weakly, his brows furrowing even tighter, his face full of pain.

Gao Xuewei’s eyes trembled, and she immediately ran over in a panic, her skirt flying up from her hurried movement.

She rushed to Lu Chen’s side in a few steps, completely disregarding her knees hitting the stone slab hard as she knelt down.

She carefully helped Lu Chen up with both hands, letting him lean against her, and gently wiped the sweat from Lu Chen’s forehead with her jade-like hand, her eyes reddening with distress.

Then she turned to glare at Xiao Tianyu, biting her lower lip with her pearly teeth, her cheeks slightly puffed out from anger, and she reprimanded furiously: “Why did you hurt him!?”

Xiao Tianyu’s face was bewildered, his hands hung helplessly in mid-air, his eyes wide with shock, and beads of sweat continuously rolled down his forehead, splashing onto the stone slab beneath his feet.

He was sweating profusely from anxiety, speaking incoherently: “I didn’t even touch him, he fell down himself!”

But Gao Xuewei didn't listen at all, only focusing on checking Lu Chen’s “injuries,” her eyes full of distress and anxiety, tears welling up in her eyes, and she kept muttering for Lu Chen to hold on.

Lu Chen leaned in her arms, occasionally letting out weak groans, his eyelids half-closed, his breath faint, portraying his injured state vividly.

“Get out, and don’t let me see you again!”

Gao Xuewei furiously shouted at Xiao Tianyu, the disgust in her eyes undisguised, her chest heaving violently, her eyes wide with fury, as if the person before her was her sworn enemy.

Xiao Tianyu’s body swayed, as if struck by a heavy hammer, his heart filled with an overwhelming wave of grievances.

Meanwhile, in the laundry room of the estate, Chen Mengyao and Xun Xiaoxiao were busy with their tasks.

However, both of them were a bit distracted.

After experiencing such intense gunfire, both of them were somewhat terrified, and waves of fear surged in their hearts.

Especially Chen Mengyao, more than her own safety, she was now more concerned about Lu Chen.

Chen Mengyao mechanically rubbed the clothes in her hands, the bubbles popping softly between her fingertips, but her mind was completely elsewhere.

She occasionally looked up at the closed laundry room door, straining her ears to catch even the slightest sound from outside.

The moment her hand paused, the soap suds slowly slid down her arm.

“I wonder how Lu Chen is…” she murmured, her voice so soft it was almost inaudible, filled with an unresolvable worry.

The thought of Lu Chen possibly being injured made her heart feel as if it were being tightly squeezed by an invisible hand, causing her sharp pain.

Involuntarily, Lu Chen’s calm, shallow smile and his tall, straight back from everyday life appeared in her mind.

Her eyes were a little dazed, the clothes in her hands already deformed from rubbing, the corners of the fabric crumpled into wrinkles.

Chen Mengyao knew in her heart that she shouldn't harbor inappropriate feelings for Lu Chen; after all, he was notoriously flirtatious, with constant rumors about him.

“A rich Young Master like him probably has countless women around him, so why should I get entangled?”

She sighed softly to herself, but the sorrow between her brows grew heavier, her heart filled with the bitter struggle of self-pulling.

Yet, gratitude spread like vines in her heart, taking firm root.

If it weren’t for Lu Chen’s help, how would her mother’s surgery fees have been secured?

Her mother’s increasingly rosy face and stronger voice in the hospital room, as well as Xuening’s recent happy smiles, all of these were hopes given by Lu Chen.

This kindness was too great, weighing her down so much that she couldn't purely cast aside those romantic thoughts.

A few angry shouts faintly came from outside.

Chen Mengyao’s body stiffened, and the clothes in her hand dropped into the washbasin with a “slap,” splashing a large amount of water.

She didn’t bother to wipe the water from her face, and suddenly stood up, accidentally knocking over a nearby drying rack in her haste.

The sound of metal clanging was particularly harsh in the small space.

“Mengyao, what’s wrong?”

Xun Xiaoxiao was startled and quickly asked.

Chen Mengyao ignored the question, pushed a table from the side of the laundry room to the window, then placed a wooden chair on top of it, and stepped onto it.

She had just observed that from this window, she should be able to see the scene outside the estate.

Chen Mengyao stood on the chair, her hands clasping the edge of the window, her toes slightly tiptoed, her gaze quickly scanning the scene outside.

Xun Xiaoxiao’s eyes showed even more surprise, and she quickly went to steady the table and chair, saying worriedly, “Mengyao, come down quickly, this is too dangerous!”

Chen Mengyao still ignored her, her anxious gaze constantly searching outside, her body slightly tilted, hanging on the window like a small koala.

Finally, she found an angle from which she could just see the scene outside the estate.

It was at this moment that she happened to catch sight of Lu Chen being pushed away by Xiao Tianyu.

Chen Mengyao’s breathing instantly hitched, her small hands clutching the window unconsciously tightened slightly, her knuckles turning white, and a wave of worry surged in her eyes.

Xun Xiaoxiao noticed the abnormality, frowned slightly, and murmured softly, “Mengyao, what did you see…”

Chen Mengyao ignored the question, her lips pressed tightly together, her pearly teeth gently biting her lower lip, her gaze fixed on Lu Chen, her body leaning slightly forward, as if she wished she could rush out immediately.

But Lu Chen had already given the order for everyone to return, and she dared not disobey.

How could a little dog, tamed to be utterly obedient, possibly disobey its master’s command?

Moreover, the situation outside was unclear at the moment.

Chen Mengyao could only suppress her overwhelming anxiety deep in her heart, silently praying for Lu Chen’s safety.

At this moment, outside the estate.

Lu Chen, who was “injured” in everyone’s eyes, was still lying in Gao Xuewei’s arms.

Inhaling the faint, rich fragrance that constantly wafted into his nostrils, feeling the soft warmth behind him, he hummed with his eyes closed, the pain on his face becoming even more evident!
