164: Chapter 164 Next Steps!

After leaving the cafeteria, Lu Yin walked straight toward the depths of the academy.

After passing through several teaching buildings, he arrived before a seemingly ordinary bamboo forest.

“Teacher, I plan to go to the Doomsday Battlefield.”

Entering the courtyard within the bamboo forest, Lu Yin spoke to Chen Yuan, who was currently drinking.

Chen Yuan set down his wine flask, a sharp glint flashing in his cloudy eyes. “Doomsday Battlefield? Kid, are you sure you want to go now?”

Lu Yin’s expression remained calm. “Yes, it shouldn't be a problem.”

Chen Yuan narrowed his eyes, sizing Lu Yin up from head to toe before suddenly grinning.

“Very well. It just so happens I have nothing to do, so I’ll take a trip with you.”

Before his voice had even faded, the space in front of Lu Yin began to distort.

A second later, a massive golden dragon appeared before Chen Yuan’s eyes.

Chen Yuan looked at the majestic golden dragon before him, a hint of approval flashing in his eyes as he burst into a hearty laugh.

“Good lad, you’ve actually subdued an Ancient Sacred Dragon.”

“It seems this trip to the Doomsday Battlefield will save this old man quite a bit of effort.”

With that, his figure blurred, and he landed steadily on the golden dragon’s broad back.

Lu Yin followed closely behind, landing beside Chen Yuan with a light leap.

“Let’s go!”

At Lu Yin’s command, Augustus let out a heaven-shaking dragon roar, spread its wings, and soared into the sky.

The bamboo forest rapidly shrank below them as the full view of the entire academy gradually came into sight.

Augustus circled half a turn in the air before speeding off toward the north of the academy.

The speed was so great that the clouds on either side flew past like flowing water.

Chen Yuan stood on the dragon's back, his hair flying wildly in the fierce wind, yet his posture remained as steady as Mount Tai.

“The Doomsday Battlefield is located at the northernmost point of the continent; it is the place where an Abyssal Demon Emperor fell.”

Chen Yuan’s voice remained clear even in the wind. “The space there is chaotic, and spatial rifts frequently appear. You must be extra careful.”

Lu Yin nodded. He not only knew it was the place where a Demon Emperor had fallen, but he had even signed a contract with that very Demon Emperor.

As they continued flying north, the surrounding temperature began to drop noticeably, and the energy in the air became violent.

After flying for about half a day, a hazy, gray area appeared ahead.

It was a vast, boundless wasteland where the soil was an eerie dark red, as if it had been soaked in blood.

The sky was filled with cracks, with purple lightning occasionally striking down from the rifts.

“We’ve arrived.”

Chen Yuan narrowed his eyes. “This is the entrance to the Doomsday Battlefield.”

Augustus slowly descended, and Lu Yin and Chen Yuan jumped down from the dragon’s back.

Stepping onto the dark red earth, Lu Yin could feel a dense aura of death.

“Stay close to me.”

Chen Yuan’s expression turned unusually serious. His cloudy eyes were now as sharp as a hawk’s as he scanned the surroundings.

“The space here is extremely unstable. A momentary lapse could result in being sucked into a temporal turbulence.”

Lu Yin nodded silently, having already secretly ordered Shadow and Night to enter stealth mode to scout the perimeter.

The two proceeded north. The deeper they went, the more massive the skeletons on the ground became.

Some bones even retained alarming energy fluctuations, clearly belonging to extremely powerful creatures when they were alive.

“In that battle, almost all the top experts of the continent perished before they could barely withstand the Abyssal invasion.”

Chen Yuan’s tone was heavy.

Lu Yin’s gaze swept over the remains of a giant creature; the ribs in its chest were jaggedly broken.

It looked as if it had been torn open by some immense force. One could imagine how tragic the battle had been back then.

Suddenly, a piercing screech came from ahead. Dozens of pitch-black, winged monsters swarmed out from a spatial rift.

They had blood-red eyes and sharp claws, emitting a nauseating stench.

“Void Demon Bats, the most common monsters in the Doomsday Battlefield.”

Chen Yuan’s eyes narrowed slightly, but he showed no intention of making a move.

With a thought from Lu Yin, Shadow and Night appeared among the bat swarm like ghosts.

Squelch! Squelch! Squelch!

The sound of numerous sharp weapons piercing flesh rang out. Without Shadow or Night even revealing themselves, they dealt with the bats.

“Not bad, kid.”

Chen Yuan gave Lu Yin a look of approval, and the two continued forward.

After about two hours, they finally neared the outskirts of the Doomsday Battlefield.

“Careful. From here on, energy storms will cause damage to any living creature that enters. Do you have enough health potions?”

Before Chen Yuan could finish, a violent energy storm suddenly erupted ahead, with dark red dust sweeping toward them like a mist of blood.

“Don’t worry, Teacher. Since I dared to come here, I’m certainly prepared.”

Lu Yin smiled.

Hearing this, Chen Yuan said no more and took the first step into the dark red sandstorm.

Lu Yin followed closely. The moment he stepped in, a system prompt popped up.

[You have entered a special zone. You are suffering from energy erosion; health points will continuously decrease.]

-10! -100! -100!

Damage numbers appeared above Lu Yin’s head. They didn't seem high, but they were constant.

Furthermore, this damage would gradually increase as they moved deeper into the center of the battlefield.

Damage numbers also appeared above Chen Yuan’s head, but he only lost ten points per second.

It seemed that even with Lu Yin’s three million boosted four-dimensional attributes, there was still a significant gap between him and Chen Yuan.

The two pushed through the energy storm and continued forward.

The deeper they went, the more powerful the storm became. The damage numbers above Lu Yin’s head had already jumped to -20 per second.

Suddenly, a massive spatial rift appeared ahead, with a distorted view of the void faintly visible within.

“Careful, this rift isn't right.” Chen Yuan stopped, his brow furrowing slightly.

Before his voice had even faded, a giant black claw suddenly reached out from the rift, lunging toward the two of them.

The claw was shrouded in dense demonic energy, and wherever it passed, even the space itself showed slight distortions.

“It’s an Abyssal Monster!”

Chen Yuan’s words made Lu Yin slightly surprised.

Abyssal Monsters were products of the Abyss and served as the primary combat force for the Abyssal Demons.

Just as the black claw was about to grab them, Chen Yuan gave a cold snort and casually waved his right hand.

An invisible wave of energy swept out, colliding with the black claw.

Boom!

A violent energy shockwave spread in all directions, instantly clearing a patch of the dark red dust.

The black claw snapped back into the spatial rift, accompanied by a pained roar.

The moment the black claw retracted, an even denser demonic energy erupted from the rift, and a massive figure slowly squeezed its way out.

This was an Abyssal Monster shaped like a spider; its eight compound eyes flashed with bloodthirsty red light, and corrosive slime dripped continuously from its abdomen.

“An Abyssal Demon Spider. Looks like we’ve encountered a big fellow.” Chen Yuan narrowed his eyes, though his tone remained relaxed.

Lu Yin’s expression shifted as he spoke.

“Teacher, leave it to me.”

“Alright.” Chen Yuan did not object.

This Abyssal Demon Spider was Level 10; even among Abyssal creatures, it was a fairly formidable existence.

The reason Lu Yin wanted to take action was, of course, for fear that Chen Yuan would obliterate it in a single blow.

Not only would he lose the experience points, but he also wouldn't be able to obtain a soul of death.

More importantly, he wouldn't be able to convert it into a Soldier of Death to replenish his combat power.

The Abyssal Demon Spider let out a piercing hiss, all eight compound eyes locking onto Lu Yin simultaneously.

Its abdomen suddenly contracted, spraying a sky full of thick spider webs.

The webs were entwined with dark purple corrosive energy, descending like a shroud.

“Hille.”

With a slight thought from Lu Yin, Hille, who had been standing quietly by his side, tapped her staff.

“Gaze of Annihilation!”

A dark orb of light condensed at the tip of Hille’s staff, its surface covered in countless fine runes.

Following her cold chant, a crack suddenly opened in the light orb, like an opening demonic eye.

A beam of gray light shot out silently, causing ripples in space wherever it passed.

The moment those corrosive webs touched the beam, they dissolved and vanished like melting snow.

-12,854,122!

The Abyssal Demon Spider let out a pained hiss and was instantly killed.

[Ding! You have killed an Abyssal Demon Spider. Experience points increased by 300,000 (-20%)!]

[Ding! Obtained Rare-grade soul of death × 1!]

The Abyssal Demon Spider’s massive body crashed to the ground, kicking up a cloud of dark red dust.

The system prompt rang in Lu Yin’s ear. Although the three million experience points were suppressed by 20%, it was still considerable.

“Death Soul Endowment!”

With his whisper, the purple soul of death merged into the Abyssal Demon Spider’s massive corpse.

The carapace and limbs shattered by Hille were reassembled under the pull of death energy, and a faint blue soul-fire reignited in the eight compound eyes.

Standing to the side, Chen Yuan watched Lu Yin skillfully complete this series of operations, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.

“Good lad, this Death Sovereign ability of yours is even more domineering than I imagined.”

He stroked his chin. “Even Abyssal creatures can be converted for your own use. No wonder you wanted to come to the Doomsday Battlefield.”

“If I’m not mistaken, your goal should be the corpse of that person, right?”

“Yes.” Lu Yin nodded without any concealment.

As for the person Chen Yuan mentioned, it was naturally the human hero, Augustus.

The two then continued on their way, encountering many more Abyssal Monsters along the journey.

These Abyssal Monsters were creatures left over from the great war of the past.

Without the control of Abyssal Demon Generals or other high-ranking demons, they could only wander aimlessly across this battlefield.

The surrounding environment became increasingly eerie as they went deeper.

Distorted black crystal clusters began to appear on the dark red soil, and a suffocating sense of pressure permeated the air.

The damage from the energy storm had already risen to -50 per second. Even with Lu Yin’s current health, he needed to use recovery potions occasionally.

“The space here is becoming more and more unstable.”

Chen Yuan suddenly stopped, his cloudy eyes staring at a distorted area ahead.

A hundred meters ahead, the space was covered in cracks like a shattered mirror, with purple lightning snakes dancing within them.

More terrifyingly, a massive skeleton was faintly visible at the center of the cracks.

Even after ages of erosion, it still emitted a trembling pressure.

“That is...” Lu Yin’s pupils shrank slightly.

“A High-Rank Abyssal Monster. It’s said to have combat power equivalent to a Third-Turn Professional.”

Chen Yuan explained.

“Seeing remains of this level means we are close to the core area.”
