20: Chapter 2: An Easy Comeback!
"With just the two of you, these good-for-nothings?"
Lu Yin sneered coldly, a flash of icy light flickering in his eyes.
"Arrogant!"
The Berserker roared furiously, his massive sword descending with a sound that tore through the air.
This strike was heavy and powerful, with a faint bloody glow swirling on the blade's edge, clearly indicating a skill had been activated.
Bloodthirsty Slash!
However, just as the massive sword was about to land, a figure suddenly materialized in front of Lu Yin.
It was a gigantic black wolf, its fur like black satin.
Its massive maw was filled with steel-like fangs—it was the Dark Moon Wolf King.
Clang!
The Dark Moon Wolf King opened its massive jaws and, astonishingly, clamped down on the Berserker's greatsword, producing a piercing screech of metal grinding.
The black-clad Berserker's expression changed slightly; he clearly hadn't anticipated that Lu Yin could summon such a powerful familiar.
Based on his observations during the day, he only knew that Lu Yin possessed astonishing innate potential and the ability to solo a Level 3 monster.
But he never imagined it would be the kind of strength that could instantly kill a Level 3 monster.
Moreover, they were both over Level 40, facing a newcomer around Level 6 or 7.
Even if they thought with their heels, they couldn't conceive of a reason they would lose.
"Is that all you've got?"
A trace of disdain appeared on Lu Yin's face.
"Looking for death!"
The Berserker instantly flew into a rage. He violently yanked his greatsword back, then thrust one palm forward.
"Blood Qi Eruption!"
Bang!
A surge of crimson blood energy erupted from his palm!
-89!
A damage number floated above the Dark Moon Wolf King's head, and the impact sent it staggering back over a dozen meters.
"How could the damage be so low?!"
However, when the Berserker saw the damage he had inflicted, his eyes widened in shock once more.
As a Level 40+ first-class Professional, a normal basic attack should have been enough to instantly kill a familiar of Lu Yin's level.
Yet even after using a skill, he had barely dealt a thousand points of damage. This simply defied logic.
"Shadow Assault!"
And right as the Berserker was reeling in shock, a dagger materialized out of thin air behind Lu Yin, gleaming with cold light as it stabbed towards his neck.
"Well done, Old Zhang!"
The Berserker's eyes lit up.
Lu Yin's familiar might be strong, but the summoner himself must be extremely fragile.
This was a common weakness for all spellcasting professions.
Once an Assassin got close, he was absolutely doomed.
As long as the master died, the familiar would cease to exist as well.
Thud!
The dagger accurately pierced into flesh, but the anticipated spray of blood and scream of pain did not materialize.
There was only Lu Yin's cold, low murmur.
"Mages all fear Assassins getting close, but unfortunately for you, you met me."
The Sovereign-Subject Connection granted Lu Yin near-immortal levels of damage absorption.
Unless someone could kill all his Death Soldier in a single blow, it was incredibly difficult for him to die.
That Shadow Assassin's pupils abruptly contracted. Before he could even process what he was seeing, a pitch-black sword light slashed viciously into his body.
Death Soul Slash!
-5647!
The Shadow Assassin's body was sent flying like a kite with its string cut, crashing heavily to the ground, a deep wound visible to the bone left on his chest.
"Old Zhang!" the Berserker exclaimed in shock, his eyes filled with disbelief.
He could never have imagined that a newcomer around Level 6 or 7...
Not only possessed a familiar this formidable, but even his main body could withstand an Assassin's ambush and counterattack.
This was simply unbelievable!
"Speak. Did Zhao Gao send you?"
Lu Yin turned his gaze back to the Berserker, his tone indifferent as he asked.
"Go to hell!"
The Berserker's face turned ashen, his hand gripping the greatsword trembling slightly.
As a desperado, he lived every day with his life on the line.
So it wasn't fear he felt, but rage.
How dare a mere newcomer around Level 6 or 7 act so arrogantly!
"Die!" the Berserker roared, a crimson blood light erupting from his entire body.
"Frenzy!"
His muscles bulged violently, veins popping out, his whole body transforming into what seemed like a bloodthirsty beast.
The greatsword descended once more with the force to tear through the air, its speed and power clearly elevated by several levels this time.
But just as the blade was about to reach him, over a dozen pitch-black magic circles appeared around the Berserker.
Decaying creatures crawled out from within them like walking corpses, tightly surrounding him.
"Wha... what is this?"
The Berserker stared in horror at the deathly creatures emerging from the dark magic circles.
These beings exuded an aura of decay, with faint green soul-fires flickering in their hollow eye sockets.
"I refuse to believe all your familiars are as strong as that wolf!"
But the next second, the Berserker's shock vanished, replaced by the madness unique to his Frenzied state.
Cyclone Slash!
The Berserker roared, swinging his greatsword. Crimson energy spun rapidly along the blade, forming a violent whirlwind!
This strike carried the momentum to tear everything apart, slashing fiercely towards the surrounding Death Soldier!
-34! -25! -9!
Yet the damage numbers appearing above those Death Soldier once again left the Berserker utterly dumbfounded.
These summonings that looked like mere cannon fodder were actually even more terrifying existences than that black wolf.
"Impossible... this is absolutely impossible!"
He howled and swung his sword again, the crimson whirlwind slash raging wildly.
But the Death Soldier only swayed slightly, not a single scratch left on their bodies.
"Time to go. In your next life, keep your eyes sharper."
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
As Lu Yin's words fell, the Death Soldier attacked in unison.
-12113! -13456!
...
Over a dozen damage numbers exceeding ten thousand appeared. The Berserker didn't even have time to scream before his light was snuffed out.
"Still thinking of escaping?"
Witnessing this scene, the Shadow Assassin not far away was scared out of his wits.
This scene defying all reason made him want only to flee as far as possible.
Gritting his teeth against the intense pain, he struggled to rise from the ground and turned to run without a moment's hesitation.
But the moment he tried to take a step, he found himself already surrounded by over a dozen Death Soldier.
"Wait! Let me go, I'll tell you everything!"
Suppressing his fear, his voice trembled as he spoke.
"Then who sent you to kill me?"
With a thought from Lu Yin, the Death Soldier halted their steps.
"It was Zhao Gao... he sent us!"
Although both he and the Berserker were desperadoes, there were many different kinds of desperadoes.
Hearing this, Lu Yin's eyes sharpened slightly. Just as he had suspected.
He just hadn't expected Zhao Gao's heart to be so vicious, unable to restrain himself from wanting his life after just one day.
"Zhao Gao..."
Lu Yin silently repeated the name in his heart, having already made a decision.
"C-can I go now?"
Seeing Lu Yin fall silent, the Shadow Assassin asked nervously.
Lu Yin glanced at him, then revealed a cruel smile.
In the instant before the Assassin could react, over a dozen Death Soldier swarmed him.
After both had become corpses, Lu Yin crouched down, carefully examining the two bodies.
Under the moonlight, he could see their weathered faces.
Their rough skin was covered in scars, clear marks of a life spent living by the blade.
Lu Yin took out his communicator and cross-referenced online. Sure enough, they were two fugitives who had been on the run for years.
Without the slightest hesitation, he dialed the Public Security Team.
Apprehending fugitives came with rewards.
It would be a waste not to take them.
