47: Chapter 47 The Land of Wailing!
[Ding! divine mission accepted: Scattered Authority]
[Mission Objective: Retrieve the heart of annihilation from the depths of the Wailing Land.]
[Mission Reward: Unknown (To be bestowed directly by the deity based on completion rate)]
[Time Limit: One year.]
[Warning: This mission is extremely dangerous; there exist powerful beings far exceeding your current level.]
Lu Yin slowly opened his eyes, his consciousness pulling away from that chaotic and ancient vision.
The badge felt slightly hot in his palm, as if a trace of the deity's aura still lingered upon it.
The mission notification echoed clearly in his mind, carrying an unquestionable majesty.
"The Wailing Land... the heart of annihilation..."
He repeated these words in a low voice, his gaze deepening.
The Wailing Land was located on Neptune within the Solar System.
Ever since humanity was forced to flee their mother planet, Earth, the entire Solar System had been reduced to a bloody battlefield.
Not only was it a den for Abyssal Demons, but it was also a forbidden death zone where Netherworld Undead wandered.
Fortunately, after human Professionals threw themselves into the fray regardless of the cost, they managed to establish a frontline base on Neptune.
As for that place, the current Lu Yin was not yet qualified to set foot there.
However, given his growth rate, it likely wouldn't be long before he ascended to that planet.
"It seems I need to make some preparations in advance."
With a thought, Lu Yin's figure gradually blurred, and in the next moment, he was teleported out of the Trial Tower.
Outside the tower, the sunlight was somewhat blinding.
When Lu Yin's figure appeared at the Trial Tower's exit, the entire square fell into a deathly silence.
All the recruits were as if frozen by a binding spell, their eyes fixed intently on the figure walking slowly out of the Trial Tower.
Shock, awe, disbelief...
Various emotions spread silently through the crowd.
Lu Yin's breathing was steady, and his expression was natural.
His build was not burly; he even appeared slightly lean.
But it was he who had just completed the clear of the Trial Tower's fiftieth floor!
He had created a miracle never before seen in human history!
In the dead silence, only heavy breathing and the sound of racing hearts could be heard.
Lu Yin walked through the crowd without looking left or right.
Wherever he passed, the crowd subconsciously backed away to both sides, yielding a path.
There were no cheers, no applause.
After the extreme shock came a silence that bordered on reverence.
They looked at Lu Yin's back and saw not a Professional of a similar age to them, but a legend who had already stepped onto the altar of godhood.
Lu Yin turned a blind eye to everything around him; currently, only the mission given to him by the deity occupied his heart.
As well as the divine rewards he might obtain after completing the mission.
"Neptune Frontline Base..." he murmured to himself.
He turned his steps toward the base's information center.
There lay the vast amount of information the military had accumulated over the years, where he could find the most detailed data and various unofficial rumors regarding the 'Wailing Land' and the 'heart of annihilation'.
Inside the information center hall, the lighting was soft, and there were only a few people.
Lu Yin walked straight to a vacant terminal, and after the screen lit up, his fingers tapped rapidly on the virtual keyboard.
Searching keywords.
"Wailing Land," "Neptune Frontline," "Abyssal Demon Distribution Map," "Netherworld Undead," "High-Risk Zones," "heart of annihilation"...
Lines of dense information and maps marked with crimson warning zones appeared.
Combat records and summaries, traded for with the lives of frontline Professionals, flashed across the screen.
The light of flowing data reflected in his pupils; his expression was focused and cold.
Originally, Neptune's environment was incredibly harsh.
With normal human technology, it was impossible to survive on it at all.
And now, having experienced the invasion of the Abyss and the Netherworld, the current situation was far more terrifying than before.
The place was almost completely eroded by abyssal aura, with twisted fissures covering the surface.
Countless horrific abyssal creatures lay in wait, surrounding all living beings.
The Netherworld Undead were like an eternal mist, wandering among the ruins.
As long as they sensed the aura of a living thing, they would swarm toward it endlessly, like moths to a flame.
The human frontline base, "Rock Fortress," was like a lone boat in a raging sea, constantly in a state of maximum combat readiness.
And the depths of the Wailing Land were an area that had not been fully explored.
Hidden there were unspeakable crises and horrors; it was said to be an absolute dead zone that even high-tier Demon Generals and powerful undead were unwilling to venture into lightly.
There was video footage recording a blurred scene from a forward reconnaissance mission.
The dark purple land seemed to be formed from countless twisted, agonizing faces.
A blood-colored thick mist permeated the air, and any creature that trespassed into it...
...would have their sanity torn apart in an instant by unspeakable mental wails, and even their bodies would begin to inexplicably disintegrate.
That place was a graveyard for all living things and a place where pain echoed.
As for the heart of annihilation...
Lu Yin searched repeatedly, but there was no direct record in the public database.
There were only a few fragmented oral accounts from different eras and different survivors, marked as [Low Credibility / Suspected Hallucinations caused by Mental Pollution].
"A heart... stationary amidst the wailing..."
"The end and destination of everything..."
"I saw it... it let me... die in peace..."
His brow furrowed slightly, and his fingertips paused.
His gaze swept repeatedly over those vague and even contradictory records.
This fragmented information was too blurry to have any practical value; it seemed more like the delusions of the mentally broken before death.
But no frustration or hesitation appeared on Lu Yin's face; on the contrary, a faint trace of sharpness flashed deep in his eyes.
The more difficult the mission, the more staggering the rewards might be upon completion.
And what he needed was exactly that.
"Kid, this place isn't somewhere you should be looking into right now."
Just as Lu Yin was staring at the screen in contemplation, a voice suddenly interrupted his thoughts.
Lu Yin turned around and saw Xiao Wanguo standing behind him at some unknown point, staring at him with a serious expression.
"Chief Xiao, I understand your concern."
Lu Yin's voice showed no emotion. "However, I have a reason why I must go."
"What reward did you get in the Trial Tower?"
Xiao Wanguo frowned.
He had rushed over immediately after hearing that Lu Yin had cleared the Trial Tower.
He had intended to congratulate him, but he didn't expect Lu Yin to run straight to the information center.
Furthermore, he was looking into that place of despair that even made Xiao Wanguo feel a bit of trepidation.
He surmised that Lu Yin must have a reason for this.
And that reason was certainly related to the Trial Tower he had just cleared.
"I obtained a divine relic and accepted a divine mission."
Lu Yin spoke very calmly.
Upon hearing this, Xiao Wanguo's expression changed abruptly, his pupils shrinking suddenly. "A divine mission?!"
He stared intently at Lu Yin, his voice unconsciously lowering several notches. "You obtained a divine relic at this level?"
Lu Yin nodded calmly, the badge in his palm appearing faintly, emitting a slight ripple of divinity.
Xiao Wanguo took a deep breath, his expression shifting.
As a high-ranking military official and a powerhouse among humans, he knew better than anyone what a "divine mission" meant.
It was an opportunity, a shortcut to supreme power.
But equally, it represented unimaginable danger.
