29: Chapter 29 The Lost Temple!
Half an hour later, the hovercar drove into a hidden military base.
The two passed through several security gates and arrived at a secluded area.
A young man and woman were already waiting there.
The man was tall, wearing silver-gray knight armor and carrying a heavy shield engraved with an earth crest.
The woman wore a snowy white priest's robe and held a staff embedded with a light gemstone.
"Reporting to the Commander, Li Chenxu and Wei Xiaoxiao are ready!" The two saluted Xiao Wanguo simultaneously.
After returning the salute, Xiao Wanguo introduced them to Lu Yin: "These are your temporary teammates."
Li Chenxu sized Lu Yin up, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes. "Commander, he's only Level 9. Are you sure he's up for this mission?"
Wei Xiaoxiao gently tugged at her companion's sleeve and nodded to Lu Yin with a smile.
"Hello, I'm Wei Xiaoxiao, a Level 24 Light Priest."
"Heh, don't underestimate Lu Yin. He managed to kill two Level 40-plus Professionals after their first job advancement."
Having anticipated their skepticism, Xiao Wanguo chuckled.
"What? He can kill first-advancement Professionals at that level?"
"That's got to be fake, right?"
Li Chenxu was stunned, his face filled with disbelief.
According to the files he had received, besides the mission details, he knew Lu Yin was a Mythic-level Professional.
But even for a Mythic Class, there had to be a limit.
He felt that at his current level, he could manage to kill a first-advancement Professional.
But at Lu Yin's level, it seemed absolutely impossible to him.
Lu Yin, naturally, didn't bother to explain.
He walked over to their transport for the trip—an electromagnetic helicopter.
"The two of you just need to support him. Military intelligence isn't for you to question."
Xiao Wanguo spoke up, cutting off Li Chenxu's further questioning.
Li Chenxu opened his mouth but ultimately swallowed his doubts, though the distrust in his eyes didn't fade in the slightest.
He let out a cold snort and strode toward the helicopter.
Once they were on the helicopter, Xiao Wanguo accompanied them along with the pilot.
As the helicopter took off, Xiao Wanguo emphasized the mission once more.
"The enemy you will face this time, according to existing intel, is an Abyssal Demon General named Ars."
"A Level 70 Curse Warlock, he specializes in mental control and area-of-effect curse magic."
Xiao Wanguo's voice suddenly turned solemn.
"His most dangerous ability is 'Soul Wither,' which can drastically weaken all of a target's attributes in a short time and cause continuous health loss."
"If you're hit by this skill, use a Full Recovery Potion immediately to ensure your health stays high."
"Our reinforcement team will have high-tier priests to remove the curses for you."
"Also, although he is just a mage, the level gap means his physical attacks can still cause massive damage to you."
"So, maintain your distance. It's better to get hit by magic than to let him get close."
"Is that understood?"
Finishing his speech, Xiao Wanguo looked at the three of them.
The three nodded in response to Xiao Wanguo's warnings.
Afterward, the group fell into a silent hush.
The roar of the helicopter's rotors echoed in the night sky. Lu Yin leaned back in his seat with his eyes closed to rest, ignoring the skeptical looks Li Chenxu cast his way.
"Ten minutes until we reach the destination," the pilot's voice came through the comms.
Lu Yin opened his eyes and looked out the window.
Below was a mountain range shrouded in thick fog, where a Dungeon entrance could be faintly seen emitting a deep blue glow.
"Prepare to land," Xiao Wanguo stood up.
"Remember, your mission is to attract and distract, not to engage in a head-on confrontation."
"If you sense Abyssal Power, use the signal transmitter immediately. We will lock onto your coordinates at once."
"Go. Until you encounter the Abyssal Demon General, we will have no further contact."
"I hope the next time we meet, you won't be corpses."
Xiao Wanguo looked at the three of them with great solemnity.
This was no joke; the cruelty of Abyssal creatures was known to all.
Once encountered, it was always a fight to the death.
Especially since they were facing a relatively cunning Abyssal Demon General.
It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say this mission was a near-certain death sentence.
However...
War is just that cruel. Especially between two races, there is no right or wrong.
There is only the divide between 'us' and 'them'.
This was a concept deeply rooted in the hearts of even young people like Lu Yin.
"Understood, Chief. We will complete the mission."
Li Chenxu and Wei Xiaoxiao gave a military salute.
As Professionals who had joined the military long ago, they already possessed firm convictions.
Lu Yin seemed to be affected by their spirit, but being a man of few words, he simply gave a heavy nod.
"Good. Begin the operation."
The helicopter slowly descended into the fog-shrouded valley, its rotors churning the grayish-white mist with a dull whistling sound.
The three quickly jumped out of the cabin, and Chief Xiao gave them one final salute from the doorway.
The helicopter then ascended again, quickly vanishing into the thick fog.
"Chief Xiao said you're the lead combatant, but if you make a wrong decision, I have the right to refuse to follow it," Li Chenxu said indifferently after the helicopter left.
Lu Yin only glanced at him and didn't respond, walking straight toward the Dungeon entrance.
Seeing this, Wei Xiaoxiao hurried to catch up and whispered, "Lu Yin, Chenxu is only like this because his brother was killed by that Abyssal Demon General. He's just a bit sensitive, don't..."
"Xiaoxiao, don't talk too much."
Before Wei Xiaoxiao could finish, she was rudely interrupted by Li Chenxu.
Lu Yin nodded understandingly.
He was actually already aware of this information.
Li Chenxu's brother, Li Chenyang, was the Mythic-level Professional Xiao Wanguo had mentioned before.
He was supposed to be a seed-level genius for the military, but he was killed by Abyssal Demons before he could fully grow.
Li Chenxu wanted to avenge his brother, which was why he had volunteered for this mission.
But...
What did that have to do with Lu Yin?
The deaths of Professionals happened every day.
While he could empathize, he would never let such matters affect him.
Therefore, this wasn't a reason for Lu Yin to tolerate Li Chenxu.
At the very least, he wouldn't make emotional choices because of it.
After all, besides the military rewards, he had come here mostly to find out more about his parents.
Soon, the three reached the Dungeon entrance on foot.
Although this was a suburban area, there were still many Professionals leveling up.
Campfires and loud discussions could be heard throughout the camp.
"Have you guys noticed? The attributes of the monsters in the Dungeon seem to have increased over the last two days."
"I noticed. I used to be able to kill a monster with two skills, but now it takes three."
"What's going on? Is the Dungeon level about to rise?"
"If the level is rising, we should take advantage and grind it a few more times now."
"After all, even if the monsters are a bit harder to fight, the experience points have increased too."
"..."
Listening to the crowd's chatter, Lu Yin instantly realized that this was definitely the work of that Abyssal Demon General.
The appearance of such a phenomenon meant the Demon General was already preparing to make a move in this Dungeon.
Sensing that there was no time to lose, Lu Yin immediately formed a party and pulled Li Chenxu and Wei Xiaoxiao into it.
