14: The boss saw it
Su Jixing had already returned to the company, and during the lunch break, he happened to have a meal with the boss, Chen Ting.
However, the livestream hadn't been turned off; the video was still running, but it was muted.
Chen Ting and Su Jixing had a very good private relationship. As they chatted, they noted that Black Pearl Entertainment was developing well; the artists under them had good positioning and resources. However, if one were to say who was developing the worst, it was their boss, Chen Ting.
Chen Ting originally founded Black Pearl Entertainment to promote himself because the terms offered by companies willing to sign him were terrible, essentially like indentured servitude. Indignant at the cold-heartedness of outside companies, he opened his own company instead.
As a businessman, Chen Ting was talented. Since the founding of Black Pearl, the artists recruited, the projects managed, and matters large and small had all gone smoothly, gradually gaining fame within the industry.
But as an artist, Chen Ting was almost the worst-performing person in the company. In other companies, artist-bosses would take their subordinates to events, whereas Chen Ting often had to ride on the coattails of his own artists to perform on various good stages.
Chen Ting had recently released a new album, which he personally thought sounded quite good. Money had been spent, and celebrities had helped with the promotion, but after two days, there wasn't even a ripple of interest.
Everyone in the company had worked hard to promote the boss's song release, but it just wouldn't go viral.
Su Jixing remembered the boss's situation and mentioned it in passing, "Boss, how is your new song doing?"
Chen Ting's hand, which was picking up a rib, paused. Mentioning the new song made him feel a bit depressed.
When this song was being produced, many top musicians had helped oversee it, and they all said it was good. So why was there no reaction after it was released?
Chen Ting sighed helplessly and picked up another rib, wanting to turn his grief and indignation into an appetite. "It flopped again."
Su Jixing's hand trembled as he picked up food. His big mouth—why did he have to mention work during a perfectly good meal? Wasn't that just hitting the boss where it hurts!
Fortunately, Chen Ting didn't mind much. Su Jixing comforted him:
"It's only been two days; you can't tell the outcome yet. Many works take time to accumulate momentum before exploding. Maybe in a couple of days, your song will become a hit, Boss."
Chen Ting had heard these words countless times. The last time he released a song, Xu Cai had said the same thing to him.
"It's up to fate, up to fate."
After saying the words "up to fate," Chen Ting's phone suddenly started vibrating. In his WeChat, only a few important Staff Member's contacts were set to vibrate. Others were put on "Do Not Disturb" mode when added. Messages from those people were left to fate—he'd reply whenever he saw them.
Chen Ting put down his chopsticks and unhurriedly picked up his phone, his mind already conjuring up several possible scenarios.
The phone ringing at this time—did one of the artists under him get caught dating? Was someone exposed for cheating? Or was someone outed as a simp!
On WeChat, Chen Ting's assistant, Xiao Ye, had sent over a dozen messages in a row.
"Ahhh! Boss, your song is a hit!"
"It's number one on the music charts."
"The play count has surpassed three million."
"Boss, take a look!"
Xiao Ye also sent two screen-recorded videos to Chen Ting.
The moment Chen Ting saw the messages, his breathing tightened. He read the previous sentence again, word by word, and then his eyes widened until they were perfectly round.
Once it sank in, Chen Ting was ecstatic.
"Holy crap, my song is a hit?"
Heavens, a singer's greatest achievement is having a signature work. He had endured so many years, persisted in creating and releasing songs, and his biggest dream was to wake up one day and find his song had gone viral.
Could it be that the heavens saw his unremitting efforts and had finally blessed him?
Chen Ting was so happy he was just short of jumping for joy.
Others in the cafeteria saw the boss looking excited and thrilled. The Staff Member, who usually kept their distance from the boss, all perked up their ears.
"Congratulations, Boss! I've been listening to your song every day for the past two days; it's really good."
"The boss has talent. With such an excellent work, how could it not become a hit?"
"I knew the boss's song would definitely be a hit, and sure enough, it is."
Chen Ting knew the people around him were just flattering him, but he still couldn't help being happy.
Hearing this, Su Jixing immediately took out his phone and opened a music app. Sure enough, the number one song on the recommendation chart was titled "courage," originally sung by Chen Ting.
The information was correct. Su Jixing said, "Boss, you're now at the top of the music charts. That's wonderful."
Chen Ting clutched his heart, instantly enveloped in surprise and joy. "I'm a hit! I'm a hit! This is great!"
