154: earn credits
Anna and Jenny helped Lu Qingyu get his new books and course schedule, and gave him a tour of the school's buildings along the way.
During this time, Anna kept trying to find topics to talk about to get closer to Lu Qingyu, but Lu Qingyu barely responded; he treated Jenny with the same attitude when she spoke to him.
Anna walked beside Lu Qingyu, lost in thought. They had seen Lu Qingyu arrive on a bicycle today, so his family background must be ordinary, yet why was he so arrogant?
She had encountered many Asians before. Among her previous pursuers were a Japanese man and a Korean man, but none were as difficult to deal with as Lu Qingyu.
Anna intended to marry a rich man in the future, so she wouldn't actually be with someone like Lu Qingyu; she was only being so attentive to him because of his face.
However, his cold attitude was a bit of a buzzkill.
Could he be the closet pervert type? Maybe he was just putting on an act right now.
Or maybe he couldn't relax because Jenny was there?
Anna thought about it and took out her phone. Perhaps Lu Qingyu was the type who was cold on the surface but knew how to have a good time in private; she could add his contact info first, and maybe he'd be different if she asked him out privately.
Anna: "Lu, let's exchange contact info. You can come to me if you need anything in the future."
Jenny: "Yes, Lu. There's nothing in this school that we don't know about."
"We often organize parties; we can invite you to join us."
Jenny also took the opportunity to pull out her phone.
Lu Qingyu looked at the two eager faces in front of him and refused without a second thought. Anna and Jenny's attentiveness was too obvious, especially Anna's. Giving directions was one thing, but her constant questioning was really annoying.
Lu Qingyu felt as if five hundred ducks were quacking in his ears.
"I don't use social media."
Anna and Jenny already had their phones out, and Lu Qingyu's words left them in an awkward position.
Anna felt that Lu Qingyu was just making excuses. He wasn't an old man; who was he kidding by saying he didn't use social media?
"No way. Facebook, Instagram? You don't have any of those?"
Lu Qingyu said confidently, "No."
He really didn't have them right now. Unless there was a business need, he didn't plan on downloading those apps.
Anna and Jenny exchanged a look. Anna was so angry she almost laughed; could this excuse be any worse? Lu Qingyu should go out and ask if there was a single student in the school who didn't have social media.
This guy was good-looking, but his personality was terrible.
After walking around, Lu Qingyu had a good understanding of the school and his course schedule. He prepared to go to the library to borrow some books.
"Is there anything else? If not, I'll be going now."
Anna didn't give up: "Lu, we're having a party tonight. Do you want to come?"
Lu Qingyu: "Not interested. I'm not going."
Overseas parties were as messy as they could get, especially since they didn't ban Marijuana.
Having been rejected repeatedly, Anna felt embarrassed. Lu Qingyu didn't care about that; he turned and left after speaking, leaving Anna and Jenny standing there.
Looking at Lu Qingyu's back, Anna grew angrier the more she thought about it. It was one thing for someone rich like Stan to reject her, but what right did a poor student who could only afford a bicycle have?
Jenny also hadn't expected Lu Qingyu to be so oblivious to her charms.
Anna: "This Asian guy is so rude."
Jenny: "Maybe he needs to work to pay for his tuition."
Lu Qingyu didn't care about the voices behind him; peace and quiet were more important to him.
With the start-of-term preparations mostly done, Lu Qingyu began his busy academic life. He planned to complete all the credits for four years in a single semester. Consequently, besides his own classes, he also had to find time to attend sophomore, junior, and senior courses. Except for sleeping, his schedule was packed.
Anna hadn't gotten Lu Qingyu's number. After school started, she kept an eye on him for a bit but soon found that he was just a nerd who only knew how to study. She immediately lost interest. Furthermore, if anyone else showed interest in Lu Qingyu, Anna would say he was a pauper with a gloomy personality, which caused many who were originally interested in him to lose interest as well.
Su Jixing made delicious food for Lu Qingyu in different ways every day. However, Su Jixing was puzzled; he saw other students looking very relaxed every day, so why was Lu Qingyu always reading except when he was sleeping?
It was almost midnight, and Lu Qingyu was still reading. Su Jixing knocked on the study door to bring him some milk.
Su Jixing's English was limited to oral communication; he didn't understand the books Lu Qingyu was reading at all.
"Boss, it's late. You should get some rest early."
Lu Qingyu looked up, took the milk, and had a sip. He had indeed been quite tired lately.
"Thanks, Brother Su."
There were four stacks of books on Lu Qingyu's desk. Su Jixing saw that Lu Qingyu had read most of them. He knew that many wealthy people and celebrities sent their children abroad to study, but it didn't seem to be because the education level abroad was so high, but rather because they couldn't pass the National College Entrance Exam back home.
This also indirectly suggested that education abroad was more relaxed. But looking at Lu Qingyu, why did it feel even more exhausting than when he was taking the National College Entrance Exam?
Su Jixing: "Boss, do you really need to read this many books in your Freshman Year?"
Lu Qingyu: "Of course not. There are only three or four for the first year."
Su Jixing: "Then why did you bring back so many books?"
Lu Qingyu looked up and pointed for Su Jixing: "This is all the textbooks and guidebooks for the sophomore courses, this is for the Junior Year, this is for the Senior Year, and this stack is the literature I need to read for my thesis."
Su Jixing: ??? "But isn't that still a long way off? Boss, you're reviewing way too early. If you read the senior stuff now, what if you forget it by the time you reach your Senior Year?"
Lu Qingyu: "You didn't think I was going to study for four years, did you?"
Su Jixing: "Isn't that the case?"
Lu Qingyu slapped his forehead: "My bad, I forgot to tell you. I plan to finish all the courses for the next four years this semester."
Su Jixing: ??? "What?"
His boss couldn't be joking, right? Finishing four years of courses in one semester—three months!
Su Jixing: "Is that even possible?"
Lu Qingyu: "In foreign universities, you can graduate early as long as you've earned enough credits. Didn't you know that?"
Su Jixing: "Of course I know that."
Please, when he asked if it was possible, he wasn't questioning the system of foreign universities, but the boss himself.
Su Jixing suddenly thought of another question: "So the reason you're attending a foreign university is just to graduate early?"
Lu Qingyu: "Why else? Otherwise, who would come here to eat bread and salad leaves every day?"
Su Jixing: !!! That's a bit ridiculous! But it also seemed strangely logical.
"Hey, wait, Boss, don't talk against your conscience. For so long now, I've been making rice; we haven't had a single meal of bread, okay?"
