65: Chapter 65 Serving Auntie a Cappuccino
Teacher Qin Lin stared at Gu Han in a daze, feeling a ringing in her ears; she nearly slid off her chair. She covered her face tightly with both hands, the blush seeping through her fingers spreading all the way to the roots of her neck.
"This kid must be toxic!"
"I asked you to disrupt the date, not to burn the whole bridge down! You've ruined my reputation."
Teacher Qin Lin roared internally. She really had been desperate and reckless, and she was already starting to regret asking Gu Han for help.
Mr. Qi was stunned for a few seconds at first, then began sizing Gu Han up. He looked to be eighteen or nineteen, dressed in casual clothes, and looked like a naive greenhorn who had just stepped into society.
"Who are you calling sketchy?" Mr. Qi scoffed, tugging at his tie. "You haven't even shed your baby fat yet, and you're here acting like a big shot. Teacher Qin Lin, you don't need to use such tactics to test me. This is a friend you brought along, right? The acting is way too over-the-top."
Was he exposed?
Teacher Qin Lin was just about to lower her hands and smooth things over, but Gu Han completely ignored Mr. Qi.
He stood up abruptly and grabbed Teacher Qin Lin's arm, pulling her up with a slight tug.
"Let's go. Don't bother with this kind of mediocre but confident guy."
Gu Han dragged Teacher Qin Lin toward the door, his pace resolute.
"Let go of my daughter! Teacher Qin Lin! You stop right there!"
A sharp, vigorous shout suddenly came from behind a secluded booth near the window of the cafe.
Hearing this voice, Teacher Qin Lin shuddered, shaking off Gu Han's hand as if she had been electrocuted.
"Mom?!"
She stared wide-eyed at the middle-aged woman walking over quickly, completely dumbfounded.
The newcomer took off her mask and put on a pair of black-rimmed glasses. Her features were somewhat similar to Teacher Qin Lin's, but her aura was on an entirely different level.
Gu Han stopped and looked back. "You actually called your mother here?"
"Shut up!" Teacher Qin Lin stomped her feet in anxiety and turned to Mother Qin. "Mom, you actually followed me? And you're spying on my date?"
Mother Qin sneered, walked up, and stared intently at Gu Han. "If I hadn't come, I wouldn't have known you already have a child! You've grown quite capable, haven't you, Teacher Qin Lin!"
At this, Mother Qin changed the subject. "Where did you find this wild kid to play-act with you?"
Seeing that the situation was about to spiral out of control, the few customers in the cafe began craning their necks, and some even took out their phones.
Gu Han, however, was not flustered at all. He scanned the surroundings and pointed to a slightly more spacious four-person table nearby.
"Alright, let's not stand here and be a spectacle." As Gu Han spoke, he naturally pulled out a chair and sat down, casually snapping his fingers.
A staff member hiding behind the counter, watching the drama, poked their head out.
"Serve the lady a cappuccino." Gu Han waved, then turned to look at Mother Qin, who was still standing there. "Ma'am, let's sit down and talk. Making a scene isn't great, and it's not appropriate for your status."
Mother Qin was taken aback by Gu Han's take-charge attitude, and the rage she had prepared was stifled. She glanced at Gu Han suspiciously, then pulled Teacher Qin Lin down to sit.
Mr. Qi, having been left on the sidelines, saw this and hurriedly walked over, taking the remaining empty seat in an attempt to regain control.
"And bring me a latte," Gu Han added to the staff member, then tilted his chin toward Mr. Qi. "This gentleman is paying for everything at this table."
Mr. Qi's expression stiffened, but with Mother Qin present, he forced himself to maintain his composure and nodded. "I'll pay."
The four of them sat down, the atmosphere somewhat awkward.
Since he had agreed to help Teacher Qin Lin ruin the date, and her mother happened to be there, he might as well resolve it all at once to avoid future dates and wasting his training time.
Just as Mother Qin was about to start questioning them, Gu Han seized the initiative.
He put away his previous devil-may-care attitude and put on a sincere face. "Ma'am, I'm truly sorry about earlier. My name is Gu Han. I'm actually her admirer. I saw her being harassed by this gentleman and felt annoyed, so I intentionally exaggerated things to make him back off. Please don't be angry; it was all my own doing. Don't blame Teacher Qin Lin."
Teacher Qin Lin opened her mouth. She had wanted to say that Gu Han was her student, but the words died in her throat.
"What nonsense is Gu Han spouting? An admirer! Is he for real?!"
While she was stunned, Mother Qin glanced sideways at Gu Han, her expression still unfriendly.
"I knew it was an act." Mother Qin snorted, looking Gu Han up and down. "An admirer? How old are you? What do you do? With your conditions, what makes you think you can pursue my daughter?"
Mr. Qi, seizing the opportunity, immediately puffed up.
He straightened his suit jacket and leaned toward Mother Qin with a beaming smile. "Ma'am, young people nowadays are just too reckless."
Mr. Qi paused, intentionally raising his voice slightly. "Ma'am, I own two companies with an annual turnover of over ten million, and I have two fully paid-off properties in the city center. If Teacher Qin Lin is with me, she definitely won't have to suffer."
Upon hearing "annual turnover of over ten million," Mother Qin's originally tense face instantly softened quite a bit.
She put on a smile, her tone even becoming gentle. "Oh my, I'm so sorry, Mr. Qi. Please excuse the spectacle today. I've spoiled this girl too much; she doesn't know any better."
"Not at all, not at all. Teacher Qin Lin is just authentic." Mr. Qi was clearly pleased.
"However..." Mother Qin changed her tone. Her smile faded slightly, and her gaze became sharp. "Mr. Qi, you own two companies with an annual turnover of ten million. Since your business is so big, have you paid the taxes for these two companies on time and in full?"
Mr. Qi's smile froze instantly.
He never expected the conversation to jump from a blind date to an audit.
"Paid... yes, paid." Mr. Qi stammered. "I've heard that you work at the official Tax Bureau; your reputation is well-deserved, and your professional standard is truly admirable. I have my finance department file taxes on time every month."
"It's good that you file on time. There's a crackdown on tax evasion right now." Mother Qin added indifferently, then turned her gaze back to Gu Han.
"Mr. Qi has an annual turnover of ten million, and you?" Mother Qin looked at Gu Han, her tone somewhat indifferent. "You say you're an admirer, so what do you rely on to support her? Do you have a car? A house? A company?"
Gu Han picked up the latte that had just been served and took a slow, deliberate sip. He hadn't been on blind dates in his past life, but he would have definitely been stumped by these questions back then.
"I have none of those." Gu Han put down the cup, his tone calm. "I'm still a freshman in college. Besides, Teacher Qin Lin is my teacher."
As soon as these words were out, Teacher Qin Lin felt her brain go "buzz."
"This kid is a genius at blowing things up!"
Teacher Qin Lin screamed internally: "Stop talking! Gu Han, this move of yours is going to drive me crazy! Forget it, let it be; the sooner I die, the sooner I'll be reincarnated."
She took a deep breath, preparing to spill the whole truth. At worst, she'd get a severe scolding from her mother, which was still better than continuing to die of social embarrassment here.
Just as Teacher Qin Lin was about to open her mouth, Gu Han added another sentence, light as air.
"Though my daily turnover is just under two million credit points."
The breath Teacher Qin Lin had just inhaled got stuck in her throat, and she started coughing violently.
"Daily turnover of under two million?!"
"What did you say?" Mother Qin's voice rose by eight octaves. "A student? Daily turnover of a million? What business are you in that makes a million a day? Is this income legal?"
Out of instinct from years of tax work, Mother Qin's professional habit fully kicked in.
"Young man, you can eat whatever you want, but you can't say whatever you want. A million in daily turnover—have you paid taxes? Is this money filed as personal income or business income? Can you produce proof of this turnover?" Mother Qin bombarded him with a series of soul-searching questions.
Mr. Qi scoffed from the side. "Ma'am, you actually believe him? A college freshman with a daily turnover of under two million? One hundred is also 'under two million.' If he can produce proof, I'll eat this coffee cup!"
Gu Han raised an eyebrow. He really wanted to push this today, so he gave Mr. Qi a mysterious smile and gestured toward him.
He felt in his pocket and pulled out his God-Lord handheld device, opening the Xianyu trading software.
"Ma'am, this platform deducts service fees, so that should count as paying, right?" Gu Han said, skillfully switching to the order page.
He turned the handheld screen toward Mother Qin, which showed nothing but high-level ecological consultations, with daily transaction amounts of over one million.
