84: Chapter 84 He Suddenly Attacked Me
Dinner time.
Tang Yanran placed the last steaming dish on the dining table, untied her apron to wipe her hands, and turned to look at the living room.
"Gu Han, go wash your hands and eat!" Tang Yanran called out.
Gu Han sat up from the sofa, dazed. He had slept very soundly. He stretched, yawned, and walked to the dining room.
There were four dishes and one soup on the table, emitting a fragrant aroma.
Gu Han pulled out a chair and sat down. He looked left and right, then asked in confusion: "Where are Dad and Gu Xin?"
Usually, at this time, both of them would be helping in the kitchen.
As soon as he finished speaking, the front door clicked and was pushed open from the outside.
Gu Yanxiao walked in first. His crisp jacket was covered in dust, a button was missing, and there was a noticeable bruise on his cheek.
Gu Xin followed behind, her schoolbag strap hanging off one shoulder, her hair messy, and the hem of her school uniform stained with dirt.
Tang Yanran stood frozen in place, exclaiming: "Oh my! Where did you two go?"
Gu Yanxiao changed into his slippers, patted the dust off his body, and feigned a lighthearted laugh: "Nothing, I went to pick up Gu Xin from school. Just a few little brats blocked our way, so we had a scuffle."
Gu Han immediately stood up and walked to the entryway. He carefully looked his sister over and, finding no visible injuries, asked: "What happened?"
Gu Xin kicked off her shoes, threw her schoolbag onto the bench, and reached up to smooth her messy hair. She said irritably: "I was cyberbullied. Brother, you're a big celebrity now. I don't know who in school plastered the fact that you're my brother everywhere. A few local thugs have been blocking me these past few days, so I told Dad, and he came to pick me up today."
Tang Yanran pulled Gu Xin over and scanned her up and down, then glared at Gu Yanxiao: "If your dad went, how did a fight break out? Didn't you try to talk to them properly?"
Gu Yanxiao immediately straightened his back and retorted: "Of course I did! I said, 'You young people are blocking a young girl every day, is this right? I advise you young people to behave yourselves.'"
At this point, Gu Yanxiao suddenly raised his voice and began gesturing with his hands in front of his chest.
"And then, he suddenly ambushed me! I was careless and didn't dodge in time!"
Gu Yanxiao became more and more excited as he spoke, even getting into a fighting stance: "I said 'Stop!', but they still wanted to attack. I immediately protected my daughter, threw a left front kick, and then turned with a right whip kick!"
Just as he raised his right leg halfway, Gu Yanxiao suddenly gasped in pain, clutching his lower back with an "Ouch!" and stomping his feet.
Gu Xin hurriedly supported him and turned to Tang Yanran: "Oh, Old Gu, stop showing off. Mom, I'm fine. Old Gu fought five people and hurt his waist. Later, the Police arrived. Luckily, I was recording with my handheld console at the time. We gave a statement before coming back."
Tang Yanran looked at her husband's stubborn yet wretched appearance, her anger flaring up. She nodded repeatedly: "How arrogant, those little brats."
Gu Han frowned, stepped forward to help his father sit down on the sofa: "How did the Police handle it?"
Gu Xin walked to the water dispenser to pour a cup of water and drank it in one go: "They arrested them all for re-education. It counts as self-defense on our part."
Tang Yanran rolled her eyes at Gu Yanxiao: "It's fortunate the girl is okay. You're already in your forties or fifties, alright, stop gesturing. Go clean yourself up and apply some medicated wine. We'll drink some loofah soup in a bit."
Gu Han got up to fetch the medicated wine, digging out a bottle of bruise ointment from the drawer under the TV stand.
He walked to the sofa, poured some wine into his palm to warm it, and pressed it onto Gu Yanxiao's lower back, rubbing vigorously.
"Hiss! Gentler, gentler! You brat, you're using too much force!" Gu Yanxiao winced in pain.
Gu Han didn't stop, though in his heart, he had already cursed the principal of Dongjiang University ten thousand times.
"The principal, that old geezer, takes full responsibility. He even reported my name during the interview," Gu Han said with a hint of helplessness.
He turned to look at Gu Xin, who was sitting on the sofa next to him, dazed, and said somewhat apologetically: "I've wronged you during this time. I'll clarify things for everyone during the professional league next month."
Upon hearing this, Gu Xin waved her hands repeatedly, her face full of resistance: "Don't! You'll just make things worse. The college entrance exam is in a few months, I still want to live."
Gu Xin's words made Gu Han pause.
Gu Han sighed softly, and upon thinking about it, it really was the case.
If he actually won the championship in next month's professional league and then came out to clarify this, what if it attracted the high attention of the Ministry of Education again?
If the big leaders came down and said something about 'placing great importance on academic scores,' his mess would never be cleared up. He might even be taken by the media to be magnified and hyped, causing a nationwide reform.
Gu Han would be remembered by future generations for this for the rest of his life.
Thinking of this, Gu Han could only smile awkwardly: "Alright, if this happens again, call the Police in advance."
After saying this, Gu Han took out his handheld console and operated it skillfully.
Gu Xin's pocket chimed. She took it out and saw that the screen displayed a received transfer of 10,000 credits.
Gu Xin's previously slightly depressed face instantly cleared up. Her eyebrows curved into smiles as she looked up at Gu Han and grinned: "Thanks, Brother! I knew getting blocked wasn't a total loss."
"You girl, you're obsessed with money." Tang Yanran came out of the kitchen with the loofah soup and placed it on the table. "Go wash your hands and eat, the food is getting cold."
The family of four sat around the dining table.
Gu Yanxiao drank the loofah soup while muttering: "It was just because I was wearing leather shoes, which made it inconvenient to show my moves. If I had been wearing sneakers, those little brats wouldn't have been able to get near me."
"Alright, alright, your 'left front kick' almost threw out your own waist, stop bragging." Tang Yanran debunked him mercilessly. "Next time this happens, don't bother talking to them, just take our daughter and leave."
After dinner, Gu Han took the initiative to take over Gu Xin's dishwashing duties.
The water splashed in the kitchen. Gu Han held a rag, absent-mindedly wiping the white porcelain plate in his hand.
Anyone with eyes could see that what happened to Gu Xin today was intentional targeting.
His own forced fame was related to college entrance exam scores. Those street thugs didn't study, so why would they hold a grudge against him because of the score cutoff? This was clearly orchestrated by someone.
Gu Han was certain that the surveillance in that area definitely wouldn't work, and the Police's lightning-fast response time meant someone was plotting behind the scenes. If Gu Xin hadn't recorded the video with her console at the time, his father might have been classified by the Police as fighting, and he would have received a few days of detention.
Is the person behind this losing their composure? Is it this deliberate now?
His intuition was definitely correct. He had had this feeling since he was a child, feeling that someone behind the scenes had always been targeting their family and playing dirty tricks.
It wasn't that he was paranoid, but rather that there had been too many inexplicable things happening to his family over the years.
Take the time they applied for a loan, for instance. In an entire floor with four households, only their door was stuffed full of flyers.
