144: Chapter 144 Ruin His Reputation

Chairman Zhao walked toward the little girl step by step, the smile on his face becoming more and more eerie, his eyes filled with perverted desire.

His voice became hoarse and disgusting: "Little baby, don't be afraid. Uncle likes you very much. Uncle will take good care of you..."

The little girl backed away in fear, letting out faint cries: "No... I want my mommy... help..."

"Go ahead and scream; no one is coming to save you even if you scream your lungs out." Chairman Zhao sneered and suddenly lunged at the little girl.

At that moment, Cao Kun and Xiao Baihe could no longer hold back. Cao Kun kicked open the villa door and shouted, "Stop!"

Chairman Zhao was startled by the sudden noise and whipped around. Seeing Cao Kun and Xiao Baihe standing at the door, his face instantly turned pale.

He quickly hid his sinister look and replaced it with an expression of panic: "Who... who are you? Why are you here?"

Xiao Baihe looked at Chairman Zhao and then at the shivering little girl in the corner; the doubts in her heart vanished instantly, replaced by a towering hatred.

She finally understood that Cao Kun hadn't lied to her—Chairman Zhao really was a demon!

This scene before her was exactly as Cao Kun had described!

"Chairman Zhao, you demon!" Xiao Baihe rushed forward like a madwoman, wanting to hit Chairman Zhao.

"Did you do this to Xiao Jing too? Did you kill her? I'm going to kill you and avenge Xiao Jing!"

Chairman Zhao quickly dodged, his expression turning vicious: "Mind your own business! Get out of here now, or I'll be forced to get rough with you!"

"Get rough? I'd like to see how you'll get rough!" Cao Kun stood in front of Xiao Baihe, looking at Chairman Zhao coldly.

"Chairman Zhao, you've put on quite a show, haven't you? A philanthropist on the surface, but a pedophile in private who has harmed so many children. You're worse than a beast!"

Chairman Zhao's expression changed completely. Knowing his crimes had been discovered, his eyes were filled with ferocity.

"Since you've seen it, don't blame me for being ruthless!"

As he spoke, he lunged toward Cao Kun.

Cao Kun was well-prepared. His body had been enhanced by the system, and he possessed the Mastery of Combat skill. He easily dodged Chairman Zhao's attack and countered with a punch to Chairman Zhao's stomach.

Chairman Zhao let out a miserable cry and fell to the ground, curling up in pain.

Cao Kun walked over to the little girl, gently picked her up, and said softly, "Don't be afraid. Uncle will get you out of here."

Cradled in Cao Kun's arms, the little girl gradually stopped crying and gripped his clothes tightly.

Xiao Baihe walked over to Chairman Zhao. Looking at his pathetic state, the hatred in her eyes almost overflowed.

She picked up a brick from the ground and raised it high, wanting to smash it into Chairman Zhao: "I'm going to kill you and avenge Xiao Jing!"

"Don't!" Cao Kun shouted quickly, stopping Xiao Baihe. "Lily, don't be impulsive! Killing him directly is too easy for him!"

Xiao Baihe stopped and looked at Cao Kun, her eyes full of confusion: "Why? He killed Xiao Jing and so many other children. He deserves to die!"

Cao Kun looked at Xiao Baihe and said firmly, "I know you hate him, and I do too. But if you kill him, it's all over for him. That's not enough to make up for the crimes he's committed."

"I have a better way to ruin his reputation, make him taste every kind of pain, and make him pay the most agonizing price for what he's done!"

Xiao Baihe listened to Cao Kun's words.

She spared Chairman Zhao for the time being.

Then, with the little girl in one arm and Xiao Baihe's hand in the other, Cao Kun quickly left.

Before walking out the door, he looked back at Chairman Zhao.

The pleading expression on the man's face had vanished, replaced by an unsettling gloom.

Cao Kun felt a chill in his heart.

This demon would definitely not let this go.

...

Under the ink-black night sky, Cao Kun brought the little girl to a nearby police station, simply explaining that she was a lost child found by the roadside.

Watching the police take the little girl inside, the two quickly departed without leaving any personal information.

It was already ten o'clock at night when they returned to the hotel.

Xiao Baihe remained silent the whole way. It wasn't until the door was closed that she leaned against it and slowly slid down to sit on the floor.

"I saw it... that face of his..." her voice was raspy. "Xiao Jing must have been just as scared back then..."

Cao Kun crouched down and took her hand: "Do you believe me now?"

Xiao Baihe nodded heavily, the fire reigniting in her eyes: "I do."

"Cao Kun, you're right. We can't let him die so easily. I want his reputation ruined. I want everyone to know what kind of creature he is!"

"That's exactly my plan." Cao Kun helped her up. "But we have to be careful from here on. Chairman Zhao won't let us go; he'll definitely track us down."

"Then what should we do? Leave Nanhe County?"

"Not yet." Cao Kun shook his head, his gaze resolute. "We need to gather more evidence."

After talking a bit longer, Cao Kun told Xiao Baihe to get some sleep.

Meanwhile, he went to the window to observe.

He could tell from Chairman Zhao's final look.

He wouldn't just let it go.

For someone like him, the first instinct upon having his crimes exposed would definitely be to silence the witnesses.

Moreover, he was powerful and influential; it wouldn't be hard for him to track down the residence of two outsiders.

Xiao Baihe asked him why he wasn't sleeping.

He briefly explained his suspicions.

Xiao Baihe immediately became nervous.

Cao Kun told her not to be too anxious; they might not necessarily come.

Time passed minute by minute.

Cao Kun stood quietly by the window, like a lurking hunter.

At 11:47 PM, three black sedans silently pulled into the hotel parking lot.

The car doors opened, and over a dozen figures filed out.

Leading them was a bald, muscular man with a hideous tattoo on his neck.

The group didn't enter the lobby but instead circled around to the side of the hotel.

There was an employee entrance there.

"They're here," Cao Kun said in a low voice.

Xiao Baihe hadn't slept at all.

Hearing Cao Kun say this, she immediately stood up.

"How many?" Xiao Baihe's voice trembled.

"At least twelve, and they're all armed." Cao Kun narrowed his eyes. "Lock the door and stay in the room. Don't come out no matter what."

"You're going to face them alone? No! It's too dangerous!"

Cao Kun turned and gripped her shoulders: "Trust me. Having you there would only distract me."

Seeing the unquestionable determination in Cao Kun's eyes, Xiao Baihe finally nodded.

Cao Kun quickly inspected the room.

There were no cameras, and the hallway was a straight corridor—perfect for fighting multiple opponents.

He took off his jacket, revealing his lean, muscular arms.

His system-enhanced body was well-defined under the light, brimming with explosive power.

The sound-activated lights in the hallway suddenly flickered on.

Footsteps.

The footsteps of many people, muffled intentionally but still dense.

Cao Kun took a deep breath, pulled open the door, stepped out, and then gently closed it behind him.

At the end of the hallway, twelve men were quietly approaching.
