26: Chapter 26 Ji Guangli and Cao Kun shared a room

She didn't need more intimate contact; she just wanted to feel that close, exclusive atmosphere.

But she wasn't sure what Cao Kun was thinking.

Would he think she was too frivolous?

Or was he not thinking about that at all?

Ji Guangli pondered and decided to use a subtle way to test the waters.

With a roll of her eyes, she had an idea.

"Cao Kun," she began, her voice sounding natural, "a university classmate of mine used to work in City of Luo. She recommended a hotel, saying it's very cost-effective and has a quiet environment. It's called Yueke Hotel. Shall we go check it out?"

"Sure, I'll go wherever the leader says." Cao Kun didn't suspect a thing and entered the name Ji Guangli mentioned into the navigation.

Before they had gone far, Ji Guangli suddenly asked Cao Kun to stop for a moment; she wanted to buy a bottle of water.

Cao Kun said he would go, but Ji Guangli firmly refused, insisting he just wait in the car.

She got out of the car.

Ji Guangli quickly walked to a Supermarket by the roadside.

Then she took out her phone and dialed the number for Yueke Hotel.

She had found this hotel herself online.

The call was connected quickly.

A front desk girl with a sweet voice answered.

"Hello, is this Yueke Hotel? I'll be arriving at the shop with a male friend in about half an hour and I'd like to book a room... However, I'd like to ask you for a small favor..."

Ji Guangli lowered her voice and stated her request. When she and Cao Kun arrived, the front desk only needed to tell them that there was only one standard room left.

To show her gratitude, she was willing to pay an extra fee for the trouble.

The front desk girl on the other end was stunned for a moment upon hearing this request, then let out a light laugh, sounding understanding: "Ma'am, are you... creating an opportunity? I understand, I understand! Don't worry, I'll definitely help with this small favor! Just one room left, a classic plot!"

"As for the money, there's no need. Helping others is a joy and builds good karma! I wish you and your friend a pleasant evening!"

Hearing the other party agree so readily, Ji Guangli felt relieved.

She briefly described her and Cao Kun's outfits to prevent the front desk from failing to recognize them.

Hanging up the phone, Ji Guangli's face felt a bit hot. She took a deep breath, adjusted her expression, quickly bought two bottles of water, and went back.

Cao Kun was completely unaware of all this.

Once Ji Guangli returned, he continued driving toward the hotel.

In fact, he was also pondering at this moment.

How could he find a way to only get one room for the night?

Of course, he didn't want to do anything excessive; he simply felt that sleeping alone was too lonely.

He even rehearsed several ways in his head to casually hint at it to the front desk.

The car soon stopped in front of Yueke Hotel.

The hotel didn't look very large, but the storefront was clean and tidy.

The two of them walked into the lobby and approached the front desk.

The person greeting them was the same round-faced girl from the phone earlier, smiling pleasantly: "Good evening, are you two looking for a room?"

"Yes, please open two king rooms, or standard rooms are fine too."

Cao Kun stepped forward and said.

Ji Guangli deliberately stayed behind him. While Cao Kun wasn't looking, she held up her phone, opened the call log interface, and signaled to the front desk.

The front desk understood instantly and gave a subtle nod.

"I'm so sorry, you two. Rooms are quite tight today, and right now... there's only one standard room left."

The front desk girl put on a very apologetic expression, skillfully operating the computer, then looked up with a face full of regret.

Only one left?

Cao Kun was stunned at first, but then a wave of immense joy flooded his heart!

He was just worrying about how to stay with Ji Guangli!

Heaven is really helping me! He almost laughed out loud.

But he immediately forced himself to put on a troubled and conflicted expression, turning to look at Ji Guangli: "Leader, this... there's only one left. What should we do? Should we look somewhere else?"

He said this, but in his heart, he was praying wildly: Don't change! Please don't change!

Ji Guangli also frowned at the right time, showing a hesitant look: "Only one room left... How about we go look at another place?" As she spoke, she made a move to turn around.

Actually, this was also part of Ji Guangli's plan.

She wasn't sure if Cao Kun was really willing to stay with her.

If Cao Kun very straightforwardly said to find another place, then there was a high probability he didn't want to stay with her, and she wouldn't force it.

If Cao Kun didn't want to change or was very reluctant, it showed he was willing to stay in the same room as her, then they would proceed according to the original plan.

"Are we really leaving, leader?"

Cao Kun quickly spoke up, starting his persuasion, "Look, it's so late now. It's such a hassle to drag luggage around looking for another hotel."

"And I've looked around this area; this one seems the cleanest, and the price is right. If we have to, let's just get one room; it saves money too."

He looked at the front desk girl, his eyes carrying an implicit plea for help.

The front desk girl understood and immediately assisted, her tone sincere: "Yes, ma'am. There are many tourists lately, and the nearby hotels are likely full as well."

"This last room of ours only became available because a guest just cancelled at the last minute. If you go out looking again, you might really not find anything suitable—either the environment will be poor or the price will be extremely high."

Cao Kun then promised Ji Guangli, his tone incredibly sincere: "Leader, don't worry! I promise, I'm a very well-behaved sleeper. I'll definitely follow the rules and won't cross any lines! It's just for rest, and we'll head back to Zhongzhou first thing tomorrow morning."

He held up three fingers as if making an oath.

Looking at Cao Kun's eager and effortful promise, Ji Guangli felt amused and a bit touched.

She pretended to weigh the pros and cons, remained silent for a few seconds, and then finally nodded as if very reluctantly, though her tone was serious: "Well... alright. But Cao Kun, we have to set some ground rules!"

"First, you sleep in your own bed. Second, we each sleep on our own side at night and don't disturb each other. Third, if you dare to be even slightly out of line, I'm leaving immediately."

"No problem! I'll definitely follow them! The leader is wise!" Cao Kun was overjoyed and quickly agreed, fearing she might change her mind.

"Alright then, this room it is," Ji Guangli said to the front desk, her face still maintaining a sense of reserve and a hint of forced helplessness.

The front desk girl efficiently processed their check-in. When she handed over the key card, she winked at Cao Kun, showing an imperceptible smile filled with blessings and teasing.

Cao Kun took the room card, his heart blossoming with joy, feeling as if he had been favored by the god of luck.

As he turned to follow Ji Guangli toward the elevator, he secretly looked back, gave the front desk girl a thumbs up, and silently mouthed 'Thank you!'

The front desk girl covered her mouth and giggled, watching them enter the elevator, thinking: Handsome, you've thanked the wrong person! The real director of this 'only one room left' drama is that seemingly cold beauty beside you!
