167: Chapter 167 The Test Passed

Bulky Man smashed a punch into Cao Kun's stomach.

His system-enhanced body significantly reduced the pain of the punch, but Cao Kun still let out a muffled groan and leaned forward in cooperation.

“What's your name?” Scarface Man asked.

“Cao Kun.”

“What do you do?”

“I run an advertising company.”

“An advertising company boss? Then there's even less reason for you to do this sort of thing.” Scarface Man sneered. “Speak, who are you really?”

Cao Kun looked up at him. “I've already told you. If you don't believe me, there's nothing I can do.”

Scarface Man stared at him for a few seconds and suddenly laughed. “You've got some backbone. Continue.”

Bulky Man's fists began to fall like raindrops.

Cao Kun gritted his teeth, not making a sound.

He was fully capable of breaking free.

With his system-enhanced body and Mastery of Combat skill, breaking free from this hemp rope would be easy.

But he didn't.

What he wanted was trust.

It could only be exchanged for in this manner.

After an unknown amount of time, Bulky Man grew tired and stopped, panting heavily.

Cao Kun lowered his head, a trace of blood seeping from the corner of his mouth.

Scarface Man walked over, pinched his chin, and lifted his face. “Still not telling the truth?”

“What I said... is the truth.” Cao Kun's voice was hoarse.

Scarface Man let go and remained silent for a few seconds.

“Lock him up.”

Cao Kun was thrown into a dark little cubicle.

Calling it a cubicle was generous; it was actually a small space partitioned off with wooden boards in a corner of the warehouse, without even a bed, just a cold concrete floor.

The door was locked from the outside.

In the darkness, Cao Kun sat against the wall and checked his injuries. They were superficial wounds, not serious.

The recovery ability of his system-enhanced body was very strong; he would be fine in a few hours.

He closed his eyes and began to think.

This man was not simple.

Cautious, suspicious, and ruthless.

To gain his trust, he had to endure his test.

Time passed second by second.

After an unknown amount of time, the door suddenly opened.

Scarface Man stood at the door holding a rechargeable lamp, with Bulky Man behind him.

“Come out,” he said.

Cao Kun stood up and walked out of the cubicle.

There was another person in the warehouse.

A young man was tied to another chair, his face filled with terror.

“Do you know him?” Scarface Man asked.

Cao Kun glanced at him. “No.”

“He's a cop,” Scarface Man said. “An undercover one, just caught.”

The young man shook his head desperately. “I'm not! I'm really not! I just came to buy goods!”

Scarface Man ignored him and looked at Cao Kun. “Do you think he's a cop?”

Cao Kun was silent for a second. “I don't know.”

“Then what do you think I should do to you right now if you were a cop?”

Cao Kun looked at him. “You would kill me.”

“Correct.” Scarface Man smiled. “So, you need to prove you aren't.”

“How?”

Scarface Man pulled a dagger from his waist and handed it to Cao Kun.

“Kill him.”

Cao Kun didn't take it.

Scarface Man raised an eyebrow. “What? Don't dare?”

“It's not that I don't dare,” Cao Kun said. “It's that it's unnecessary.”

“What do you mean?”

“He's not a cop,” Cao Kun said.

Scarface Man's gaze sharpened. “How do you know?”

“Intuition,” Cao Kun said.

“A real undercover cop wouldn't be caught so easily.”

“And his eyes are too full of fear. Cops are trained; they wouldn't show that kind of expression.”

Scarface Man stared at him for a few seconds, then suddenly laughed.

He turned to the young man. “Is he right?”

The young man's face was deathly pale; he couldn't speak.

Scarface Man sighed. “You indeed aren't a cop. You're just a punk who wanted to buy goods, but you aren't qualified.”

He waved his hand.

Bulky Man walked over and slit the young man's throat with a single stroke.

Blood splattered everywhere.

Cao Kun's pupils contracted slightly, but his expression remained unchanged.

Scarface Man watched his reaction, a flash of satisfaction in his eyes.

“Not bad,” he said. “You've passed.”

Cao Kun was untied.

Scarface Man signaled for him to sit and personally poured him a cup of tea.

“You didn't even blink just now. Have you trained?”

“A little.”

“Have you killed before?”

Cao Kun looked at him but didn't answer.

Scarface Man laughed. “It's fine if you don't say. I've seen too many people. I can tell at a glance who's truly ruthless and who's just faking it. You're the truly ruthless kind.”

He took a sip of tea. “But I still don't quite believe that story you told earlier.”

“Selling a scammer's organs to help the women he cheated? That sounds like something from a movie.”

“I want to know, why are you meddling in this?”

Cao Kun was silent for a second. “Because my girlfriend was also cheated.”

This was a lie.

But Scarface Man believed it.

He nodded. “Then it makes sense.”

He stood up and paced a few steps in the warehouse. “Alright, I believe you.”

“However, business is business. You have the goods, and I have the channels, but the rules must be clear first.”

“What rules?”

“First, the goods must be healthy. We don't want anyone sick, on drugs, or too old.”

“Second, the price follows the market rate, but we take a thirty percent cut.”

“Third, if something goes wrong, you shoulder it yourself. There is no connection between us.”

Cao Kun nodded. “Fine.”

“Fourth,” Scarface Man looked at him with sharp eyes, “if you dare to play tricks, that man's fate just now will be yours.”

Cao Kun said calmly, “Understood.”

Scarface Man stared at him for a few seconds, then suddenly laughed.

“Interesting. It's been a long time since I've met someone so interesting.”

He reached out his hand. “Old K.”

Cao Kun shook his hand. “Cao Kun.”

The two hands gripped each other tightly.

After establishing preliminary trust, Old K signaled for Cao Kun to sit down and discuss the details.

“Who is the goods?” he asked.

“Zhang Genshuo, 32 years old, healthy, doesn't smoke or drink, and has a regular schedule,” Cao Kun said. “You can inspect the goods now.”

Old K laughed. “In such a hurry?”

“Someone is waiting for the money.”

“Those three women?”

Cao Kun nodded.
