187: Chapter 187 Reminds Shang Youya
Soon, Lou Dong and Shang Yuya's breakfast was served.
Throughout the meal, Lou Dong was meticulous, peeling tea eggs for Shang Yuya, picking up steamed buns for her, and asking after her well-being; his acting was superb.
Shang Yuya, immersed in this false happiness, had a sweet expression and would occasionally whisper to Lou Dong; they looked like a very loving couple.
The surrounding diners saw this and cast envious glances, thinking the young couple had a great relationship.
Only Cao Kun watched coldly, taking in all this hypocritical performance, the chill in his heart growing heavier.
He didn't move, still sitting in his spot and eating slowly, but his gaze remained locked on the two of them without wavering for a moment.
He was waiting—waiting for the right moment.
Time passed second by second, and about twenty minutes later, Lou Dong and Shang Yuya finished their breakfast.
Lou Dong stood up, took a tissue, and gently wiped the corner of Shang Yuya's mouth, saying softly, "Are you full? If you're full, let's head out to the pier by the lake. I've already rented a boat."
"Mhm, I'm full." Shang Yuya nodded, her face full of anticipation.
"It's my first time going rowing on the lake. Dong Zi, you're so good to me."
"As long as you're happy." Lou Dong smiled and took Shang Yuya's hand, and the two walked side by side toward the door of the breakfast shop.
Seeing them about to leave, Cao Kun immediately put down his spoon, settled the bill, and followed them quietly.
He maintained a moderate distance, neither losing them nor drawing their attention.
Stepping out of the breakfast shop, the sunlight had already broken through the mist, spilling onto the streets with a pleasant warmth.
Lou Dong held Shang Yuya's hand and walked to the entrance of a roadside convenience store. He stopped and turned to Shang Yuya, saying, "Yuya, wait for me here for a moment. I'll go in and buy a couple of bottles of water and some snacks to eat on the boat."
"Okay, come back quickly." Shang Yuya nodded obediently and let go of his hand. Standing alone at the convenience store entrance, she watched Lou Dong's receding back with a gentle gaze, a happy smile still lingering on her lips.
Now was the time!
Cao Kun's eyes narrowed; he knew the opportunity he had been waiting for had finally arrived.
This was the only chance to speak with Shang Yuya alone. Once Lou Dong came out of the convenience store, they would be inseparable, and finding another chance for private communication would be as difficult as climbing to heaven.
Without the slightest hesitation, Cao Kun strode toward Shang Yuya.
His steps were quick yet steady, making little noise, and he reached Shang Yuya in just a few seconds.
Shang Yuya was waiting for her husband with a heart full of joy when she suddenly saw a tall stranger with an extraordinary temperament standing before her. She couldn't help but be slightly stunned, her smile fading as a hint of vigilance and confusion appeared.
She sized up Cao Kun; the man before her was dressed neatly, was handsome, and had a powerful aura. He clearly wasn't an ordinary person and belonged to a completely different world than her own social circle.
Shang Yuya instinctively took a small step back, her hands clenching slightly as she asked softly, "He... hello, may I ask if there's something you need?"
Her voice was still soft, but it held a touch more distance and defensiveness.
Cao Kun stood before her, looking at her calmly with complexity in his eyes—sympathy, regret, and a hint of urgency.
He knew that his next words would overturn everything this woman knew, and she might even take him for a madman.
But he had to speak.
Cao Kun lowered his voice, his tone serious and earnest as he said word for word, "Miss, I know you don't know me, and I mean no harm. I just want to warn you about something very important. You must listen to me."
Shang Yuya frowned, even more confused. "Warn me? I don't understand what you mean. We are strangers; what could you possibly have to warn me about?"
"Your name is Shang Yuya, right?" Cao Kun spoke directly, stating her name.
These words caused Shang Yuya's expression to change instantly.
She snapped her head up, the vigilance in her eyes turning to terror. "How do you know my name? Who are you? What do you want?"
She began to panic; a strange man suddenly appearing before her and accurately calling out her name made her instinctively feel afraid.
Seeing this, Cao Kun quickly tried to soothe her. "Don't be afraid. I'm not a bad person, and I won't hurt you. I know you're panicked right now, but calm down and let me finish. This concerns your life!"
"My life?" Shang Yuya's face turned pale as she shook her head repeatedly, thinking this man was simply unreasonable.
"What nonsense are you talking about! I'm perfectly fine; how could it concern my life? Have you mistaken me for someone else?"
"I haven't mistaken you," Cao Kun said firmly, his gaze fixed intensely on her eyes, trying to make her believe him.
"Let me ask you, are you married to a man named Lou Dong? You've been married for two years, and he's always gambling and often hits you, right?"
Every word precisely struck Shang Yuya's sore spots.
Her body shuddered violently, her complexion becoming even more unsightly.
These things were the deepest secrets in her heart, the scars she desperately tried to hide.
She didn't understand why this strange man knew so much about her private affairs.
"Who on earth are you? Are you investigating me?" Shang Yuya's voice carried a hint of trembling as well as anger.
"I'm warning you, don't talk nonsense. My husband has changed for the better now; he doesn't gamble anymore, and he won't hit me anymore!"
