1: Reborn before the apocalypse
“Ah...”
Ai Yue let out a sharp cry, suddenly opened her eyes, instantly jumped up, and looked around warily.
What met her eyes were clean white walls, a bright room, and flower petals being blown in through an open window, carrying a clean fragrance. The air held no trace of rot or stench.
Ai Yue showed a confused expression. What was going on? Wasn't she just being torn apart and devoured piece by piece by a group of demons wearing human skin?
She carefully examined the furnishings in the room; they were both strange and familiar.
It was strange because she hadn't seen such a bright and spacious room in ten years, yet familiar because this was the house her maternal grandmother left her when she passed away ten years ago.
Was it a dream? But this dream was too real!
Ai Yue touched the table, then the sofa. The sensation transmitted to her hand was incredibly real.
She stared blankly at the room, then forcefully pinched the tender flesh on her inner thigh—it hurt immensely!
She finally believed it: she had been reborn! Reborn before the Apocalypse!
Ai Yue's eyes filled with tears. She vaguely saw her phone on the coffee table. She pounced on it, picked it up, and eagerly turned it on. The large time and date on the screen came into view.
“January 4th, January 4th. The day the world ended was March 8th. There are still two months. It's still in time, still in time...” Ai Yue stared blankly, muttering to herself, unable to regain her composure for a long time.
Suddenly, Ai Yue slapped herself hard to snap back to reality. Once she was conscious, she couldn't help but burst into tears, venting for half an hour before gradually calming down.
She couldn't afford to let herself wallow; there were too many things waiting for her to do.
Counting the days, the end of the world would arrive in two months and three days.
First came the continuous extreme heat, which lasted for a month, causing city-wide water and power shortages, and damaging most supplies. After the extreme heat stopped, there was a sudden torrential rain that submerged nearly half the city, and then came the abrupt global temperature drop... Just then, a jarring phone ringtone sounded. Ai Yue wiped her tears, picked up the phone, and saw the four large characters, “Darling Han Xiao,” flashing up and down on the screen.
Seeing that name, Ai Yue gritted her teeth in hatred: “I almost forgot about you, you dog!”
Han Xiao was her boyfriend. In the early stages of the Apocalypse, to vent his white moonlight's anger, this beast occupied her house and harmed her and her parents.
Ai Yue tried hard to suppress the killing intent in her heart and said hoarsely, “Han Xiao, in this life, I will make sure you wish you were dead!”
Ai Yue stabilized her emotions and answered the call. A voice of reproach came from the other end: “Yueyue, what are you doing? Why did it take you so long to answer my call?”
Hearing the familiar voice, Ai Yue's hatred for him churned endlessly in her chest. She clenched her molars, suppressed the hatred in her heart, and took a breath before replying, “I wasn't feeling well, I was sleeping!”
Han Xiao didn't notice the cold tone in Ai Yue's voice and continued dismissively, “Is that so? Then drink some hot water. Oh, right, Yueyue, didn't you say last time we ate that what's mine is yours and what's yours is mine?”
Ai Yue had completely forgotten saying that; after all, ten years had passed, it was too long ago. However, back then, she truly never refused Han Xiao anything.
Ai Yue gave a faint “Mm,” wanting to see what kind of trick he was trying to pull.
Han Xiao was delighted: “Uh, Yueyue, I have a junior schoolmate who just returned from abroad and hasn't found a place to live yet. Your house is big, could you let her stay at your place for a while? She'll move out as soon as she finds a place!”
Ai Yue smiled silently; she remembered now.
This exact thing happened in her previous life. She couldn't resist Han Xiao's constant pestering and soft-heartedness, so she agreed. She never expected that once the woman moved in, she would never get the chance to move out. What surprised her even more was that the woman wasn't his junior schoolmate at all—she was the white moonlight he had always cherished in his heart.
For the sake of this woman, he was capable of doing anything!
“No!”
“Why? Yueyue.” The pitch of his voice involuntarily rose.
“There is no why. If I say no, then it's no!” Ai Yue said coldly, about to hang up.
“Wait, Yueyue, don't! We're already at your doorstep...”
With a “beep,” Ai Yue mercilessly hung up the phone.
Han Xiao, waiting downstairs, felt astonished. Why was she so cold to him today? Usually, she clung to him tightly; she had never acted like this in two years.
Unwilling to give up, he called Ai Yue several more times, but she didn't answer any of them.
Ai Yue sat on the sofa, staring at the constantly flashing name on her phone, a slight smirk playing on her lips: “Don't worry, I'll send you two scumbags on your way soon enough.”
Ai Yue then recalled how that woman had been constantly cozying up to Han Xiao ever since she returned to the country.
In her previous life, she had been foolishly blind, treating the woman like a sister and taking care of her. Now, thinking back, those two must have been laughing at her stupidity behind her back.
Ai Yue narrowed her eyes, stood up, grabbed her car keys, and prepared to leave. It was better to clean up such disgusting trash sooner rather than later, saving herself the daily annoyance.
She went straight to the underground garage, drove the car, and waited not far from the community entrance. Before long, she saw Han Xiao leading a woman in a yellow dress out of her community, hailing a taxi, and heading straight toward a nearby hotel.
Ai Yue tapped her fingers against the steering wheel, thinking to herself that after so many years apart, these two would definitely be like dry wood and raging fire; they had to do something, or they wouldn't deserve the title of Scum Man and Bitch Woman.
Ai Yue followed them all the way to a four-star hotel.
Han Xiao and the woman got out of the car, leaning on each other. The woman was smiling sweetly, and the man looked utterly doting.
All the way, they were deeply immersed in their own world, openly flirting and oblivious to Ai Yue, who was following just three steps behind them.
The two checked into a king-sized room. Ai Yue, following behind, clearly heard the room number the receptionist mentioned and silently memorized it.
Ai Yue waited outside their room door with a playful expression. After a while, she took a small hairpin from her hair, straightened it, stuck it into the keyhole, and with a gentle turn, the door opened. Ai Yue calmly pushed the door inward.
From the entrance, a woman's jacket and a man's tie were carelessly thrown on the floor. Looking further, a woman's stockings, high heels, a man's pants, and shirt led all the way to the bedroom door, where a woman's bra was hanging on the doorknob, gently swaying.
Embarrassing sounds came from inside the bedroom, but these were nothing to Ai Yue. What hadn't she seen in the Apocalypse? Her skin was thicker than a city wall long ago.
Ai Yue was completely calm. She brazenly pushed the door open, revealing two naked bodies intertwined before her eyes.
Perhaps they were too engrossed, as they didn't notice someone staring at them until Ai Yue let out a playful tsk and clapped her hands, startling the pair awake.
The woman instantly shrieked and hid straight into Han Xiao's arms, but her attempt was futile; what shouldn't have been exposed was still visible.
Han Xiao frantically grabbed for the blanket, not even bothering to look back at the intruder.
Only after Han Xiao managed to grab the blanket and cover both of them did he suppress his panic, turn around angrily, and curse loudly: “Which idiot... Ai, Ai Yue?”
Han Xiao was startled when he saw Ai Yue, and he stammered an explanation: “Yueyue, please, don't misunderstand. Her and I... I was just taking care of her.”
“Pfft... Haha, taking care of her? Taking care of her in bed? Han Xiao, you truly have no shame!” Ai Yue had genuinely underestimated the depth of his character's depravity; she couldn't believe he could utter such shameless words.
“Ai Yue, you go out first. Wait until we get dressed, and then I'll explain to you.” Seeing Ai Yue's playful expression, Han Xiao felt rage surge in his heart, and he suddenly spoke with a hard tone.
“Explain your mother's X! You disgusting piece of trash, you think toilet paper used to wipe shit smells like perfume?”
Ai Yue stepped forward and unceremoniously yanked off the blanket covering them, rolled up her sleeves, and started punching and kicking them fiercely, beating both the man and the woman without discrimination.
The two were beaten and screamed like slaughtered pigs. Fortunately, the hotel room had good soundproofing, or people would have gathered to watch long ago.
Ai Yue gave the scumbag couple a severe beating, slightly relieving the rage in her heart.
“Han Xiao, from this day forward, we have no relationship whatsoever. Don't let me see you again; if I see you once, I'll beat you once. I wish you and your white moonlight stay together until death, never to be separated!”
After speaking, Ai Yue delivered another hard kick to Han Xiao's vitals, smashed both their phones, took all the clothes in the room—leaving them not a single scrap of fabric—and walked away with flair.
Let them jump around for two more months. When the Apocalypse arrives and social order collapses, she will definitely send them straight to hell.
