167: Gong Qiuqiu is being targeted
Gong Qiuqiu left a few people behind to tie everyone up, waiting until he had time to deal with them.
"Gong Qiumu, bring Ming Tao. We're going to meet that old fellow, Ming Chengde."
Gong Qiuqiu said to Gong Qiumu.
He turned his head again and looked at Xiheng with a gentle smile. "Xiheng, thank you for stepping in just now. Especially..." He looked at Gu Xitian with a warm expression, "Especially thank you. Your Invisibility Superpower was a huge help. If it weren't for you, we wouldn't have captured Ming Tao and subdued his men so easily."
This was the first time Gu Xitian had seen Gong Qiuqiu's gentle side. His handsome face, combined with his soft and magnetic voice, made her fall for him instantly.
The usually unruly and headstrong young lady now looked like a shy young bride, making those who knew her click their tongues in wonder. Truly, everyone has their match.
However, there was one person in the crowd who was frowning deeply, a hint of sadness and embarrassment in his eyes.
Yan Li watched Gu Xitian's bashful expression as she chatted with Gong Qiuqiu. Seeing her so eager to talk to another man, a wave of indescribable bitterness welled up in his heart.
Gu Xitian didn't have time to consider what others thought; her mind was entirely focused on Gong Qiuqiu.
However, after politely thanking her, Gong Qiuqiu didn't take the initiative to talk to her further. Seeing that she intended to cling to him, he immediately found an excuse to blend into the crowd, leaving her with no way to get close.
Just as Gu Xitian was trying to think of a way to get close to Gong Qiuqiu, she was grabbed by Xiheng and pulled back. He warned her, "Gu Xitian, what are you doing? Mind your behavior. From now on, don't say a word in front of outsiders, or I'll beat you!"
"Can't you tell? I'm chasing a man! I like him. Brother, he's your friend, you have to help me!" Gu Xitian said confidently and coquettishly.
Xiheng's face darkened, and he warned her again, "I won't allow it. You'd better stay far away from him, or I'll beat you every time I see you!"
Gu Xitian snorted and gave a reluctant agreement, looking unhappy.
Although they were talking, they moved quickly. A moment later, the group arrived in front of a small Golden Building.
Countless people had already gathered in front of the building, their weapons all pointed at it.
From the very front of the crowd came an old but vigorous voice.
"Kid Gong, aren't you quite capable? You're always the first to rush forward, so why aren't you coming out now? Are you afraid?"
The speaker was the base's Second-in-Command, Ming Chengde. He looked radiant now, and even the sorrow that had been on his face when he heard of Ming Yao's death had vanished.
"Uncle Ming, I'll call you Uncle Ming one last time! As long as you withdraw your people, I swear I won't make things difficult for you for the rest of my life."
A gentle and wise voice rang out.
Ming Chengde gave a disdainful smile. "Hmph, Kid Gong, what kind of dream are you having? Since a battle between us is inevitable sooner or later, it's better sooner than later. You'd better come down obediently. If I have to send my men up to catch you and throw you out in a pathetic state, it won't look good."
"Sigh, Uncle Ming, I gave you a chance, but you didn't take it. In that case, don't blame me for being impolite!" the base's Top Leader said calmly and decisively.
"It's not certain who's giving who a chance, but I certainly won't give you a chance to escape." Ming Chengde narrowed his eyes. He reviewed the plan in his mind and found no issues. His lips curled into a happy smile.
"Is Kid Gong still not coming out? Are you enjoying being a shrinking turtle?" Seeing that Chief Gong wouldn't come out no matter what he said, his patience gradually wore thin. He said impatiently, "In that case, I'll have to send people in to invite you!"
With a wave of his hand, a fully armed five-man squad stepped forward. The squad leader guaranteed solemnly, "Mission will be accomplished."
As he spoke, the squad leader waved his hand toward the roof, and a White Vine as thick as an arm flew up and lashed itself firmly to the top.
With a movement of his other hand, another White Vine appeared, wrapping around the other four people, and they leaped toward the roof as if flying.
In the blink of an eye, they successfully reached the top of the building and nimbly headed down the stairs. They were going to drag Chief Gong out.
Gong Qiuqiu and the others, hiding in the distance, saw the situation clearly.
Seeing people going to catch his father, Gong Qiumu said anxiously, "Brother, what should we do? Dad is trapped here; he couldn't withdraw in time."
Gong Qiuqiu held down Gong Qiumu's restless hand, perfectly calm. "Don't worry! Our old man isn't stupid!"
"Is this a matter of being stupid? He's surrounded, and people have already gone in." Gong Qiumu said complainingly, seeing his brother wasn't worried.
Seeing Gong Qiumu's extreme anxiety, Gong Qiuqiu said helplessly, "Don't worry, Dad isn't inside."
"Huh? Not inside? Then who's talking in there?"
Gong Qiumu blinked his large eyes, looking confused.
Seeing his younger brother's silly and cute expression, Gong Qiuqiu sighed deeply. "Have you forgotten about technology?"
"Technology?" Gong Qiumu looked enlightened. "You mean Dad is remotely controlling things from somewhere else, and the one talking to the old geezer is a loudspeaker?"
"You could say that. Now, can you wait here quietly?" Gong Qiuqiu said patiently.
"Hehe, hehe..." Gong Qiumu scratched his head and chuckled like the silly son of a landlord.
At that moment, a flash of intense light swept across the Golden Building, and it fell silent once more.
Ming Chengde frowned slightly. After a while, there was still no reaction, and no news came from the five men who had entered.
Ming Chengde knew something was wrong inside the building. He didn't know who else was in there besides Chief Gong. Being habitually cautious his whole life, he didn't send any more people in.
Instead, he had cannons brought forward. At his command, rows of cannons fired together at the small building.
At that moment, a Light Screen suddenly rose to envelop the entire building. All the shells that hit it were bounced back by the transparent Light Screen.
Ming Chengde was quick to react, grabbing two people next to him to use as shields. After a burst of fire, everyone in front of Ming Chengde was turned to ash. He stood there dazed, clutching two severed hands, looking at the undamaged building in disbelief.
"Haha, Uncle Ming, stunned? This is the first time I've seen someone attack themselves!" Chief Gong's mocking voice came from the direction of the building.
Ming Chengde had never been in such a pathetic state in his entire life, especially not in front of a junior he looked down upon.
Consumed by rage and resentment, he personally took action. He traced a circle with both hands, and streaks of gray smoke radiated outward from him in semi-circles toward the building.
When the gray smoke touched Gong Qiuqiu's Light Screen, the screen shook violently and shattered with a "crack."
