429: Chapter 429 Why don't we go take a look now?

When King Feiyun and Ziyi walked out of Moli's residence,

a night breeze was blowing from across the courtyard, carrying the scent of dew and grass leaves.

The two walked side by side on the stone-paved path, neither of them speaking first.

The moonlight stretched their figures long, one after the other, intertwining on the bluish-gray ground.

After walking for a distance, Ziyi finally spoke, her voice carrying a dullness that had been suppressed for a long time:

"Your Highness, what should we do?"

King Feiyun's footsteps did not stop, but her shoulder line tightened slightly.

After a moment of silence, she replied, her tone a few degrees lower than usual:

"... I do not know."

Ziyi turned her head to glance at her.

King Feiyun's profile appeared exceptionally cold and detached under the moonlight.

Her jawline was somewhat tense, and her brows carried a confusion that rarely appeared on her face.

Ziyi withdrew her gaze, looking at the road ahead, her voice lowering by another few degrees:

"King Xuanyin knows more than we do. Yet she left nothing behind."

"Moli does not know the details either. She only knows that King Xuanyin told her to contact Lin Yun, saying 'You will know once you make contact.'"

"Then we..."

She paused, not saying the second half of her sentence.

King Feiyun filled it in for her: "We can only make contact as well."

Ziyi's breath hitched for a moment.

Those two words were like a stone, gently smashing into the already restless pool at the bottom of her heart.

The two walked for another distance in silence.

Ziyi finally spoke up after all, her voice carrying a trace of hesitation that even she herself hadn't noticed: "However..."

"If we go make contact with him, will we... sink deeper?"

The moment these words left her mouth, her own heartbeat skipped a beat.

She thought of those uncontrollable scenes from the past few days.

She thought of her accelerated heartbeat when she saw Lin Yun at the wedding banquet.

She thought of the profile that repeatedly surfaced in her mind when she sat alone by the window late at night.

She was already in this state.

If she were to actively approach him further, actively make contact, actively go look at him, listen to him speak, and feel his aura...

What would happen?

Ziyi did not dare to think.

King Feiyun did not answer either.

She simply walked in silence, her pace half a beat slower than usual.

When the two walked to a fork in the road, King Feiyun's footsteps finally came to a halt.

She stood under a large tree, the moonlight falling on her shoulders through the gaps in the branches and leaves, mottled light and shadow swaying on her deep crimson robes.

"I do not know," she said.

Ziyi stood beside her, waiting quietly.

King Feiyun's voice was very soft, carrying a rare tone that could almost be called "hesitation":

"King Xuanyin must have discovered something before she left."

"What she discovered can definitely explain our current state."

"Yet she did not tell Moli."

"This shows that thing cannot be understood just by speaking of it with words."

"One needs to experience it oneself."

King Feiyun paused here, her gaze falling on the outlines of the eaves shrouded in night in the distance, as if trying to see those lines in the dark more clearly:

"So if we really want to figure it out, we can only..."

She did not finish her sentence, but Ziyi already understood her meaning.

The two fell silent for a while longer.

The wind passed through the woods, making a rustling sound among the leaves.

"Well, why not go have a look then?"

A childish and crisp voice came from behind, carrying clearly irrepressible excitement.

King Feiyun and Ziyi turned their heads at the same time.

Moli was standing not far behind them with her hands behind her back, her little face wearing an expression of "I guessed right indeed."

She did not know when she had followed them out, silently standing behind the two.

Their cultivation was higher than hers, but because they were immersed in confusion,

they had not noticed her following along at all.

King Feiyun frowned: "When did you follow us?"

"The moment you stepped out, I followed right behind."

Moli argued with full confidence.

"I could not sleep, you see, and wanted to see what the two of you would chat about."

Ziyi gave her a helpless look and did not reply.

Moli skipped over to the two in a few steps, tilting up her little face: "I heard everything you just said."

"Since you also want to find out what Xuanyin discovered, why not go have a look right now?"

"Anyway, Lin Yun is at home right now, and he is with Ruozao..."

She paused halfway through her sentence, and then the corners of her mouth slowly split into a grin.

King Feiyun's expression changed almost instantly.

Ziyi's expression changed simultaneously as well.

Those scenes uncontrollably surfaced in the minds of both simultaneously.

Tonight's.

Ruozao.

Bright red bridal gown, bridal chamber, Red Bridal Veil.

The profile of Lin Yun lowering his head to kiss, the candlelight reflecting the curve of his jawline, a warm aura brushing past Ruozao's reddened earlobes.

That image was so clear it was as if it were carved into their minds, replaying frame by frame, impossible to chase away.

Their breathing fell out of sync for a beat at the same time.

Using almost all their willpower, they forcibly pushed those images back down.

Then their complexions became even darker than before.
