110: Chapter 110 This is a den of thieves!

Two days later, Lin Ning stood at the entrance of the hospital building and took a deep breath of the free air outside.

He had smelled enough of the disinfectant for a while.

Over the past two days, he had been dragged through several rounds of strange examinations, and the amount of blood drawn was almost equivalent to a voluntary blood donation.

The results?

Everything was normal, except for the doctors who pulled out a lot of hair in confusion over his "ultra-high metabolism followed by rapid recovery in a very short period."

"Lin Ning!" Dean Xu approached Lin Ning with an expression like someone trying to kidnap a child. "Have you considered cooperating with us? Those guys in black are no good. For cooperation, you should look for a formal institution, insti—"

Lin Ning took off running. This old man was too terrifying; he had the vibe of an old pervert.

The old man reached out and shouted from behind, "Hey, why are you running? Let me tell you about the benefits..."

Lin Ning ran out the gate and breathed a sigh of relief.

The side effects of using the "Eye of Insight" this time were much lighter than the previous two times. After getting enough sleep and eating well, he recovered the same day, and his Psychic Power even felt a sense of tempered solidity.

Staying these extra two days was half for cooperation and half for a bit of peace and quiet.

Now, he had had enough peace and quiet; it was time to get active.

He stretched, hailed a taxi, and got in.

Looking at the street scenery flying past the window, Lin Ning calculated which people from his former company he should investigate.

The ancients said: endure for a moment, and the wind and waves will calm; take a step back, and the sea and sky will broaden.

Lu Xun said: endure for a moment and the more you think about it, the angrier you get; take a step back and you'll get prostatic hyperplasia.

For his health, Lin Ning chose to listen to Brother Xun.

At five in the afternoon, the evening rush hour had already begun. Back when he was a corporate slave, he used to be especially envious of those who could get off work at four or five, because he felt they were actually "human."

In just a month or two, it felt as if Lin Ning's life had been split into two worlds. What was once familiar had become a memory he could never return to.

Of course, he didn't miss it either.

The car stopped in front of a convenience store across the street. Lin Ning bought an old-fashioned popsicle and sucked on it while leaning against the window. His gaze calmly swept across the flow of people entering and exiting the office building.

As soon as it hit six o'clock, Lin Ning's Psychic Power quietly spread out. He didn't want to waste time by missing any of those bastards.

Soon, several "familiar faces" appeared one after another.

The boss, President Liu's Mercedes slowly drove out of the underground garage. Its window was down, and his "frontier supporting the center" hairstyle was blown by the wind; he hurriedly used his hand to pat it back onto the top of his head.

Blocked mostly by him was a middle-aged woman touching up her makeup with a small mirror. Lin Ning recognized her at a glance as Sister Sun from finance.

Both of them had bright red hanging over their heads.

Lin Ning glanced at them and then looked away.

Then came the car of Vice President Li, who was in charge of HR. Hmm, red.

A few minutes later, Fatty Zhang walked out of the office building entrance with his belly protruding, picking his teeth as he walked. A red color floated above his head, looking like a piece of fat stained with dirty oil.

Lin Ning looked at him, his eyes narrowing.

Others were just incidental targets, but this guy had a real, tangible grudge against him.

If Fatty Zhang hadn't been stirring things up in the company's decision to fire him and the current lawsuit against him, he would freaking eat shit on a livestream.

At that moment, Xiao Zhao, the bidding specialist, hurried up from behind and walked beside Fatty Zhang, talking to him.

Lin Ning's eyebrows shot up. This person wasn't on his list. Not only was he a "red name," but he also seemed to have some connection with Fatty Zhang.

I was such a dumbass back then!

The corners of his mouth curled into a cold arc.

In one company, three people in core positions all had colors over their heads. Plus two main business backbones, and none of them were good people!

Ha!

What kind of ghost company is this?

He didn't look any further. Under the rolling eyes of a "beauty" on the roadside, he snatched a taxi and sped away.

Yanjing's evening rush hour officially began to show its might, with traffic jams so bad they could make an enlightened monk jump and curse the Buddha.

But Lin Ning no longer felt the impatience he had when he arrived; he just kept thinking in his head.

By the time he was almost home, he had a general direction in mind.

Returning to Linfeng Garden, Lin Ning went straight to the three-bedroom apartment.

Inside the three-bedroom apartment, four people were sitting around a small table, eating and chatting.

After eating until he was half full, Lin Ning spoke up, "I've got a few enemies. I'd like to ask you brothers to do some private work for me."

Jin Er rolled his eyes. "You're acting like a woman. If there's something, just say the word."

Lin Ning chuckled and didn't stand on ceremony anymore.

"These people," Lin Ning pulled out photos taken during an old company team-building event and sent them to Jin Er and the others via WeChat. "Help me check them out and get some background info. I'll organize a list of names and addresses in a bit."

Jin Er and the others pulled out a tissue, wiped their hands, and took a look.

Lin Ning picked up a peanut with his chopsticks and introduced them, "President Liu, Vice President Li, and Sister Sun from finance. I can only think of things like tax evasion and bribery. You guys see what you can dig up first. Oh, and the finance lady and President Liu are lovers."

"Fatty Zhang and Liu Jian," Lin Ning pointed them out specifically. "Give them some special attention. They are mainly responsible for our company's bidding. Let me tell you some possible directions."

"Embezzling security deposits, extorting the winning bidder after losing a bid—these are common offenses in our industry."

"Fatty Zhang and Liu Jian's positions are perfect for coordinating those two things. Of course, there might be other things too."

After the three of them memorized the info, they continued drinking and toasting.

"Lin Zi, don't worry. Official work is just a way to make money for us. For a brother's business, just you wait and see!"

Lin Ning naturally believed them.

He raised his glass and began to toast.

After Xu San downed his drink in one gulp, he asked, "What's the grudge?"

Lin Ning: "From my former company. I won the arbitration, and they straight up said they'd use a lawsuit to drag me down for fun. Ha! Then I'll just have to strike first and collect some interest."

"I've told you guys about this Fatty Zhang."

Jin Er suddenly understood. "Got it. You just leave it to us."

Lin Ning nodded with a smile. "Stay safe, and don't be too aggressive with your methods. Don't get yourselves into trouble. Just find a 'thread' that the police can investigate."

After a lively meal, Lin Ning was dragged by these three older brothers to the newcomer's room to go smurfing.

Suddenly, a notification popped up at the top of his phone—an unread message from Jiang Yu.

Just as a round ended, Lin Ning jumped up and said pretentiously, "Oh, I just remembered I have something to do. See you later, guys."

Xu San and the others weren't having it; they were relying on him to carry them.

"What the hell do you have to do? Are we brothers or not..."

Lin Ning didn't listen to their nonsense and ran toward the door without pausing.

Just before leaving, he annoyingly asked Zhang Shitou a question, "Those two lady friends of yours, did you finally settle things with them?"

Zhang Shitou gave a simple and honest smile. "They said I can't be without wings..."

Lin Ning's face looked like he had eaten shit, and he slammed the door with a thunderous bang.

Damn, God is a girl!

The Heavenly Dao is unfair! The heavens are blind!

Back home, Lin Ning flopped onto the sofa and opened his phone.

Jiang Yu: [Cat peeking.jpg]

Lin Ning looked at that cute emoji, his finger hovering over the screen for a few seconds.

Jiang Yu had been sending messages intermittently over the past few days. Sometimes sharing a funny video, sometimes just simple morning and night greetings. She didn't overstep, but that kind of approaching probe made his heart feel soft yet slightly bitter.

Lin Ning thought for a long time and replied: [I'm back in Yanjing, but I still have some things to deal with. I'll treat you to dinner in a while. (Smiley face)]

Jiang Yu: [You're busy, so there's no rush for dinner, but you must eat on time yourself! (Patting puppy head.jpg)]

Looking at Jiang Yu's message, Lin Ning rubbed the space between his eyebrows.

Lin Ning knew he should harden his heart, stop replying to Jiang Yu's messages, and completely cut off this ambiguity.

Instead of how he was now—replying yet staying distant, being hot and cold like a scumbag.

After all, the path he was walking was not as simple as he once thought.

The last message Li Xianmin sent abroad was a hidden danger.

Who knew what kind of dangers were waiting for him in the future.

But every time he saw Jiang Yu's messages, he couldn't control himself. He was afraid that not replying would make her sad and embarrassed, yet he also feared that expressing warmth would make her fall deeper.

Lin Ning threw his phone aside and stared blankly at the dark room.

A long, long time passed.

In the darkness, a sudden sneer was heard.

"I'm a freaking time bomb. Why should I drag a girl down with me..."
