94: Chapter 94 Retribution!

Lin Ning didn't know how these three were so brave that they dared to tail a drug dealer.

Didn't he tell them to take a detour whenever they saw one?!

And why the hell did they call him? They should have called Li Feng or just called the police!

"You..." Lin Ning was about to ask what the situation was.

Subconsciously looking up, he saw Jiang Yu watching him, her fingertips unconsciously rubbing the edge of her teacup.

Lin Ning paused for a moment and spoke a bit faster, "I have an emergency on my end. I'll treat you next time."

The light in Jiang Yu's eyes flickered, and she nodded sensibly and decisively. "Mm, go ahead and get busy."

Lin Ning gave an apologetic nod and quickly walked out.

Jiang Yu sat in her seat, watching the door that was still swaying slightly, not moving for a long time.

Once outside the shop, Lin Ning didn't even want to ask about the situation anymore. He gripped his phone and said through gritted teeth, "Forget about the boss, you three find a place to stay right now and stop following him!"

On the other end of the phone, "We're taking turns following him. Don't worry, he won't find us..."

Lin Ning was going crazy with anxiety. "That's a damn drug dealer!"

"Call the police! Call Li Feng!"

"Li Feng's phone won't go through. Call the police... hehe, would that still count toward our performance record? This guy has run all the way to Fengzhuang; it's not the same district."

Lin Ning almost choked on his breath. If you guys had been this willing to risk your lives for money earlier, would you still be stuck at Juma Bridge doing day labor?

Besides, the public security bureau is one big family; would they really cheat you out of your bonus just because you're outside that jurisdiction?

He said a few more words, but it turned out this guy had his mind made up. "It's really fine, you just hurry and contact Li Feng."

Jin Er paused, wanting to say something but swallowing it back. "...You, you hurry up."

Lin Ning: "You motherf—"

The call was hung up immediately, followed by a WeChat message from Jin Er—a location pin.

Lin Ning couldn't afford to stay angry; he quickly called Li Feng's number.

No one picked up.

Lin Ning then called Director Zhang's number. It rang for a long time before finally connecting.

It was extremely noisy on the other side.

"Hello?" Director Zhang's tone was very sharp, as if he were suppressing his temper.

"Director Zhang, it's Lin Ning." Lin Ning spoke extremely fast, keeping it as concise as possible. "The owner of He X Fatty Malatang shows signs of fleeing. My second brother is currently tailing him."

"What?" Director Zhang's voice suddenly rose. "Where? Give me the address! Quick!"

Lin Ning quickly sent the location and Jin Er's phone number to Director Zhang.

"What kind of nonsense are you all pulling..."

Lin Ning didn't have time to listen to his lecture. He flagged down a taxi, hung up the phone, got in, and gave the address.

Clutching his phone in the car, he wanted to contact Jin Er and the others but was afraid of disturbing them and causing a mistake.

In less than ten minutes, Lin Ning was restless and broke out in a cold sweat.

"Master, faster, even faster. I'll give you extra money..."

Before he could finish, the phone rang—it was Jin Er.

He quickly answered.

"Lin Zi, a few police officers came and pinned the guy down. We're going to the Sub-bureau in a bit. What should we say then?"

Lin Ning: "..."

In that short while, he had already been thinking about where he could buy cheap cemetery plots for them. During a police arrest, drug dealers even dare to engage in gunfights. If these three brothers were discovered by the boss while he was on the run, Lin Ning couldn't think of any outcome other than collecting their corpses.

Now that it was over, his heart returned to his chest, and he felt like a complete idiot; what the hell was the point of him rushing over there?

"Just tell the truth!" Lin Ning replied weakly.

After a pause, he suddenly roared, "Jin Er, I'll f*ck your ancestors! You just wait! You just wait until I goddamn see you guys!"

He hung up the phone and gave an apologetic smile to the startled taxi driver. "Master, change of plans. To the Sub-bureau."

He was wrong. He really knew he was wrong now.

He finally felt what Chen Zhi had felt back then. They were really goddamn courting death!

At the Sub-bureau.

Lin Ning found a spot in the lobby to hunker down.

He couldn't contact Jin Er at the moment; they were likely going through a round in the interrogation room.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Director Zhang leading Officer Li Feng through the main entrance.

Lin Ning quickly scrambled up and ran to their side.

"What's the situation? I was eating out when my second brother suddenly called me. I was scared to death. Was he really fleeing, or did Jin Er and the others mess up your plans?" Lin Ning leaned toward Officer Li Feng's side, asking in a low voice while also explaining for Director Zhang's benefit.

He knew that usually, when there was a lead, the narcotics officers wanted to dig up the suppliers and the network. What was the use of catching a small-time dealer?

Director Zhang glanced at him and ignored him.

Officer Li Feng saw that Director Zhang didn't stop him. "Don't even mention it; it was a stroke of bad luck. We reported this case, and the Sub-bureau took it over, keeping an eye on it to catch the source and suppliers."

"As it turned out, in the early hours of this morning, the small electric scooter they used for deliveries was hit by a drunk driver. They were rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. The boss probably didn't see the delivery guy and the 'Powder Girl' return on time, so he tried to slip away. The hospital's report about the drug-related emergency only reached the Sub-bureau this morning. Fearing they might alert the suspect, the Sub-bureau had us cooperate this morning to round up those small-fry employees, but the boss couldn't be found."

"You know the rest. Thanks to your second brother and the others, otherwise, if the biggest fish in the nest had escaped, haha, everyone would have lost face."

Director Zhang coughed twice from the side.

Officer Li Feng shut his mouth.

Lin Ning thought to himself, 'What do I know?' But it wasn't hard to guess—it was just Jin Er and the others spotting the boss while they were wandering the streets and noticing something was off about his state. He trusted the eyes of those three on that front.

Director Zhang and Officer Li Feng went inside to coordinate the work, while Lin Ning sat in the third-floor corridor waiting for those 'ancestors' who were giving their statements.

Lin Ning didn't say anything at the Sub-bureau.

In the evening, they returned to the three-bedroom apartment.

Lin Ning's anxiety had drained away over the afternoon. Looking at the three men who were looking everywhere but at him, although he didn't blow up, his face was set and his gaze was icy.

He was pondering in his heart whether he should continue cooperating with them in the future.

If this happened a couple more times, not to mention his heart giving out from the fright, how much money was a person's life worth? If something really happened, he wouldn't be able to sleep for the rest of his life.

After a long while, Jin Er gave a sheepish laugh to break the ice. "You have no idea, I recognized that grandson at a single glance. That shifty look of his..."

Zhang Shitou interrupted him. "Second and Third said to call the police; I was the one who insisted on following."

His face was stiff and expressionless, but his eyes were filled with guilt and pleading.

"My younger brother called me and said he wanted to let me know he's getting married..."

"I've never taken care of my parents; it's a struggle just for me to stay alive. He's the one back in the village fulfilling his filial duties. Thanks to you, I have a bit of money in my pocket and found my conscience. I asked about the situation—building a house and the bride price left him 100,000 in debt. The two old folks will have to work their tails off to pay it back. I only have a little over 10,000 in my hands."

He wiped his face and continued, "That work of ours—the Police Station could give it to anyone. If we help them save face and they're happy, they'll give us more work, and I can earn more to pay back the money sooner."

"I..."

"Wait a minute! Work given by the Police Station?" Lin Ning interrupted Zhang Shitou, completely bewildered.
