63: Chapter 63 The First Step to Breaking Free from One's Family of Origin

Coming out of the Police Station, the smile on Lin Ning's face slowly faded.

He stretched; now that the official business was done, it was time to handle some miscellaneous matters and find some fun.

After thinking for a moment, he picked up his phone and called Jiang Yu.

"Are you free? Let's take care of the video thing today..."

Then he contacted Jin Er and the others, and the parties agreed to meet in a while.

He took one last look at the noisy morning crowd at the Police Station and turned to leave.

Lin Ning picked up Jiang Yu at the entrance of the residential area and went straight to Jin Er's place.

"Jiang Yu, this is Brother Jin Er, Brother Xu San, and Brother Shitou."

The three of them, led by Jin Er, already looked harmless to begin with, and now they appeared even more kind.

When Lin Ning discussed it with them earlier, he had told them about Jiang Yu's experiences and why they were doing this. Hearing it made them look disgusted; in this world, not all parents truly deserve the title.

They were used to seeing messy, ridiculous things, but that didn't mean they thought those things were right.

"We know her, we know her. It's Jiang Yu!"

Lin Ning was stunned. "You know each other?"

Jin Er gave Lin Ning a meaningful look and said with a smile, "Jiang Yu became famous shortly after moving to Juma Bridge. She's a beauty, after all."

Jiang Yu was very reserved in front of people she didn't know well, greeting them and thanking them with unusual politeness.

Seeing this, Lin Ning didn't waste time on small talk and gave directions directly. "Then let's get the live stream sorted out today! We can chat more later."

The account had been prepared long ago, and Jiang Yu had already been broadcasting on her own for a few days.

Sitting upright in front of the camera, her cold expression was quite intimidating.

There were only five people in the live stream room, including the four of them. However, it was understandable for a new account that didn't show skin, dance, or act cute.

Lin Ning quickly sent the live stream room number to the agent he had contacted beforehand.

A moment later, the number of viewers jumped to over five hundred. The main show was beginning.

Jin Er was the first to connect. Wearing large sunglasses and a mask, he spoke with a strong 'preachy father' vibe as soon as he appeared. "A young girl like you should do something useful for society. Don't follow the crowd and become a streamer; it's a waste of youth and contributes nothing!"

Jiang Yu's expression turned even colder. "Which sewer wasn't closed properly that let you out to seek attention?"

Jin Er was quite into his role. Hearing this, he got agitated. "How can you talk like that? I'm doing this for your own good. You don't know a good heart when you see one..."

Jiang Yu directly interrupted his nagging, cursing him out with rapid-fire but clear articulation: "Judging by your voice, you're not young anymore. Have all these years been lived in vain? Offline, you'd spend half a day debating over a seven-yuan Meat burger, but online you're pretending to be some big shot?! You brain-dead creature with no cerebellum, how many mothers do you have to be talking like this? Other people's nastiness is learned, but yours must be natural, right? Since you love poking your nose into other people's business so much, why don't you ask your parents how they managed to give birth to a maggot like you? If you can't speak like a human, go sit at a table with dogs; there's no place for you among humans! Get lost!!!"

The air in the live stream room went silent for a second. Lin Ning almost burst out laughing—he knew they didn't need a script. Thinking back to when he first met Jiang Yu, her mouth was practically a weapon of mass destruction.

Jiang Yu's ears turned red.

Xu San was the second to connect, and he was similarly cursed into silence by Jiang Yu. Then came Zhang Shitou.

Although everyone knew it was fake, Jiang Yu truly dominated. Those being scolded couldn't even lift their heads, while the others tried desperately to hold back their laughter, making 'pfft pfft' sounds like they were passing gas.

The task completed, Jiang Yu decisively ended the stream. She didn't notice that the viewer count had soared to over a thousand, and the bullet chat was filled with comments like 'I want this sister's mouth' and 'Sister, do you take commissions for professional scolding?'

Turning off her phone, Jiang Yu stood up with a flushed face and bowed to the three brothers to apologize. "Brothers, I'm so sorry."

Lin Ning laughed heartily, and Jin Er and the others were also very happy, waving their hands dismissively. "It's fine, it's fine. This is nothing. Little sister, that mouth of yours is great; you won't get bullied. Hahaha..."

After a bit of small talk, Lin Ning noticed Jiang Yu's discomfort and suggested seeing her off.

He had to keep Jiang Yu away from these old rascals.

Jiang Yu just had a sharp tongue, but they were wicked at heart; he didn't want her to be corrupted.

Seeing her to the entrance of the residential area, Lin Ning waved goodbye.

"Let's leave it at that for now. I'll make arrangements later. Also, when the police mediate, remember to say that specific line!"

Jiang Yu nodded, her bright eyes filled with a smile. "I know! Thank you, Lin Ning, and thanks to the brothers for their trouble. I'll treat you all to a meal later."

Lin Ning smiled and nodded, watching Jiang Yu leave. Looking at her back, he sighed silently.

To say he didn't have any ulterior motives before and was purely acting out of a sense of justice would be nonsense. But now, his desire to pursue Jiang Yu had faded.

Having experienced those dark moments behind the light, his own future was still uncertain. How could he have the mind or energy to look for a wife?

He would just take things as they came.

After seeing Jiang Yu off, Lin Ning called Zhang Qi directly.

Zhang Qi came over, verified the screen recording of the live stream, obtained authorization from Jin Er and the others, and with a touch of helplessness, drafted three Lawyer's Letters on the spot.

Honestly, as a lawyer, he encountered many bizarre things that ordinary people couldn't imagine, but he was still speechless at Lin Ning and the others' behavior.

He printed them out, stamped each with the official seal, and handed them to Lin Ning.

"You... seriously, can't you do something proper?"

Lin Ning was displeased. "How is this not proper?! You're experienced; why don't you come up with a solution? I've been restrained enough; this is purely passive defense."

Zhang Qi was momentarily speechless. When good people use legal means to protect their rights, the effort and the reward are rarely proportional, and the actual results might not necessarily achieve justice.

Especially concerning 'family disputes.'

Zhang Qi changed the subject. "The Arbitration case with your former company has gone to court. Are you sure you're not going?"

Lin Ning shook his head. "No. Didn't you say I need to maintain the image of an 'illegally dismissed employee'? I can't curse people out, so why should I go? To see their petty faces? To swallow my anger? If I really went, I couldn't guarantee I wouldn't start shouting in the street."

Zhang Qi packed his things and waved him off like shooing a fly. "Fine, I get it. I'll let you know when there's a result."

"Also, the court has started scheduling Liu Qingbei's case. Are you going to that hearing?"

Lin Ning suddenly perked up. "Of course I'm going. I'm going to have a good long talk with the judge."

Then he slapped his thigh. "I forgot to tell you, a few days ago, that Liu person was spreading rumors about me outside."

He briefly explained the situation. "The Sub-bureau has the mediation records. Do you need them?"

Lawyer Zhang nodded. No matter how small the case, his principle was to do everything to the absolute best of his ability.

"I'll go to the Sub-bureau to retrieve them myself. I have your Power of Attorney."

"Alright, I'm leaving. Didn't I give you a reading list? Take a good look at those legal statutes."

"I did look at them! This time I was actually planning to draft a formal Statement of Claim to make it more intimidating, but then I thought about 'Frivolous Litigation,' so didn't I change it to a Lawyer's Letter instead?" Lin Ning countered.

Zhang Qi was left speechless by him. Was he supposed to be teaching him how to find loopholes?

Lin Ning patted Zhang Qi reassuringly. "Don't worry. Although I've laid down the weapon of the law, I haven't picked up any other weapons either. Your merit is boundless!"

Zhang Qi shook off his hand and turned to leave.

He must have been blind back then. How could he have ever thought Lin Ning was an honest man with good character and a resilient personality?!"
