175: Chapter 175 Ma Xiaofu

Huang Chenggen was so intimidated by Lin Ning's sudden burst of aura that he subconsciously took a step back.

Immediately after, he felt humiliated and grew angry, his face flushing red as he stared at Lin Ning with a gloomy gaze.

After a long silence, he pointed a finger at him, said nothing, and turned to leave.

After a few steps, he looked back again, his eyes filled with malice, and waved his phone at Lin Ning.

“Tsk!” Lin Ning let out a disdainful sneer, but his gaze grew even colder.

Lin Ning watched him walk back to his car, start the engine, and drive away.

In the final moments that Huang Chenggen was in his line of sight, Lin Ning activated the Psychic Power he had been locking onto him.

He wanted to see exactly who had the capability to bail someone out in this territory.

Images flooded in.

Petty theft, picking locks and breaking into houses, swindling and deceiving, stealing candy from children, knocking on widows' doors, eating without paying...

Lin Ning was at a loss for words; such a low-life hoodlum could actually be protected and bailed out by someone.

Was the person “above him” an idiot?

Lin Ning grabbed a fragment that had abruptly turned deep red and slowed it down—

[In a private restaurant room, Huang Chenggen bowed and scraped to a burly, bald, middle-aged man, flattering him: “Doing things for you is exactly what I’ve wanted, sir. Who doesn't know that Brother Ma is a stand-up guy!”

Brother Ma laughed heartily. “Then show me what you can do. Remember, the goods marked in red are to be unloaded and sold through different channels.”

Huang Chenggen patted his chest with great confidence. “Just you wait and see!”

Brother Ma pushed a handbag across the table. “I know the general market price; I won't make you pay out of pocket. This should be more than enough to buy those goods, and the rest is for your trouble.”

“Brother Ma thinks highly of me, so I’ll make sure everything is handled perfectly,” Huang Chenggen promised, his hands moving very quickly to snatch the handbag.]

[Small chemical plants, hardware stores, mahjong parlors, and dilapidated single-story houses... Huang Chenggen hurried between them, buying a chaotic variety of items: spare parts, bottles and jars of chemicals, and tools.]

[In a broken-down warehouse in a demolition zone, Huang Chenggen put away the items he bought along with the list and cursed under his breath: “Insisting on night deliveries... That grandson Ma Xiaofu, and he calls himself a big shot on the streets?!”]

[Huang Chenggen, drunk and rowdy, got into a street fight and was taken to the Police Station... Lin Ning was kneeling on his back, pinning him down.]

[In the Sub-bureau interrogation room, a policeman said, “Someone has handled your matter; you're released on bail pending trial. After you get out, try your best to get the victim's forgiveness, and the case will be closed.”]

[At the Sub-bureau entrance, a car picked up Huang Chenggen as he walked out and took him to a business KTV.

Ma Xiaofu sat on the sofa with a gloomy face. Seeing Huang Chenggen, he immediately spoke: “What did you tell the police?”

Huang Chenggen patted his chest: “Don't worry, Brother Ma! I've been in and out of the station since I was a kid. Don't I know the saying 'confess and you're stuck in jail, resist and you're home for New Year'? I didn't say a thing!”

Ma Xiaofu stared at him for a few seconds, then his expression softened. “The client was very satisfied with the things you bought before. Hurry up and handle the rest of the list. Don't cause trouble lately; if you go back in, don't blame me for not letting you get rich with me.”]

[The contact Huang Chenggen had an appointment with went into hiding, and he cursed: “Motherf*cker, just these few things and he insists on buying them from different people. They’re all damn controlled contraband; buying them all together or separately is still illegal. It's like taking off your pants just to fart. Not a single one of them has any loyalty, hiding like cowards!”

“And that little brat from the other day, he's so close with those stinking cops. I’ll corner him and kill him!”]

[...Huang Chenggen pointed his phone at Lin Ning and pressed the shutter button. On the screen, Lin Ning’s eyes were ice cold.]

Lin Ning stood in place, watching Huang Chenggen's car disappear into the distance, his eyes turning to ice.

Taking a photo of him? Good for you.

Lin Ning composed his emotions and thought about the images he had just seen—it was a headache.

He actually couldn't figure out what major crime this guy Huang Chenggen had committed. Helping to buy controlled substances? Fighting? “Jailbreaking”?

He was definitely going to deal with Huang Chenggen.

It wasn't that he was afraid of this hoodlum; based on his level, he couldn't pose any real threat. But a small risk was still a risk, and the guy had even come right up to him to threaten him to his face.

Lin Ning now had both a bright future and wealth. He had the family, love, and friendship he hadn't dared to dream of in his previous life. He would absolutely not tolerate anyone threatening these things.

Even verbal threats wouldn't do.

As for the person behind him... Lin Ning lowered his eyelids.

If someone could get Huang Chenggen released against regulations today, someone else could ask that person to release someone else tomorrow.

What if it were those gangs Lin Ning had reported to Officer Li Feng? If they wanted revenge, would they have this “person” check who reported them?

Hidden dangers had to be identified and crushed one by one.

The person had to be transferred to the Sub-bureau before being released against regulations—that “person” was in the Sub-bureau!

Reaching down to the Police Station involved too many layers, making it easy for things to go wrong; that's why they operated this way.

Lin Ning looked up and gave a cold laugh.

Released on bail pending trial? It only appeared to be legal and compliant.

Lin Ning walked to his car door and drove away from the Police Station.

After driving around for a few laps and making sure no one was following him, Lin Ning went straight home.

He opened his laptop and began to organize the information he had “seen.”

Ma Xiaofu—Huang Chenggen's superior.

Controlled and prohibited items: Ceramic Resonant Components, anti-overload trigger switches... Acetone...

The address of the warehouse where Huang Chenggen delivered goods at night.

...

After recording every detail and piece of content he thought might be useful, Lin Ning pressed his temples, his head aching.

He searched for the names of those “goods” one by one on Baidu.

The screen was full of “controlled,” “controlled,” “prohibited and controlled”...

As for the specific uses, Lin Ning was completely confused.

The parts had broad uses and could be used anywhere in industry. Valves, connectors, timer accessories—he couldn't see anything specific.

The chemicals were all controlled substances. Acid salts, Acetone... toxic and harmful, flammable and explosive, but also common industrial raw materials.

“Something's not right, something's not right!” Lin Ning muttered to himself.

Lin Ning knew something was wrong, but what exactly was it?

Huang Chenggen was just a hoodlum; if he was caught, he was caught. Why would Ma Xiaofu go to such great lengths to find someone to bail him out in a place like Yanjing? Loyalty? Don't make me laugh.

The image of Huang Chenggen coming out of the Sub-bureau flashed through Lin Ning's mind—

What Ma Xiaofu cared about was whether Huang Chenggen had told anyone about “buying things”!

It was just buying controlled substances, not a capital crime. Why was the “powerful” Ma Xiaofu “afraid”?

Lin Ning rubbed his face. Forget it, what did solving cases and deduction have to do with him?

It was better to go “see” Ma Xiaofu.

When the time came, he would leave the criminal part to Officer Li Feng. As for the “umbrella” Ma Xiaofu had requested help from...

Thinking of this gave him another headache. Did he have to develop another “special line” to the Discipline Inspection Commission? The Commission didn't follow the “act on rumors” routine, and he hadn't heard of any rewards.

Maybe throw it to Chen Zhi?

Thinking of what Chen Zhi's expression would be, Lin Ning couldn't help but laugh. “Hahaha...”

“I’ll check it out first.”

In Huang Chenggen's memory fragments, he didn't know where the company or residence of the supposedly “reformed” Ma Xiaofu was; Ma Xiaofu always summoned him at restaurants or business KTVs.

He would go stake out that warehouse tonight.
