12: Chapter 12 A Sudden Surge of Blood, A Chair Settles the Turbulence

Li Zhijun's emotions appeared to be a mix of anger and excitement.

Qiu Liang stood with his back turned slightly toward Lin Ning, his voice rising in irritation.

Only a second or two passed from the moment Lin Ning turned his head to see the scene, but the colors above their heads had already finished shifting.

A piercing blood-red and a grayish-white dominated Lin Ning's vision, freezing his brain.

Li Zhijun's hand, which had been in his pocket the whole time, twitched.

Lin Ning's body moved faster than his brain's commands. He let out a roar, "Holy shit!" He leapt up, grabbed a nearby chair, and swung it with all his might at Li Zhijun.

Fueled by adrenaline, the chair slammed into Li Zhijun with immense force.

With a miserable scream, Li Zhijun was knocked to the ground. His hand came out of his pocket, sending a lump of iron clattering to the floor.

Li Zhijun propped himself up against the floor, his expression fierce as he made a move to get back up.

Lin Ning kept shouting "Holy shit, holy shit" non-stop as he grabbed the chair he had knocked over while getting up and continued to bash it toward Li Zhijun.

The entire scene unfolded in less than a second. No one had time to react; Qiu Liang even instinctively tried to block the chair Lin Ning was swinging at Li Zhijun again.

Lin Ning lunged forward a big step, grabbed the back of Qiu Liang's clothes, and yanked him backward.

His brain finally caught up. The "Holy shit" coming out of his mouth turned into, "He's trying to kill someone! He has a gun!"

The people at the Police Station finally sprang into action. Those who were originally going to lunge toward Lin Ning diverted their path toward Li Zhijun on the floor.

While several officers scrambled to pin Li Zhijun down, Lin Ning, still clutching Qiu Liang's clothes tightly, had already retreated behind the reception desk.

Lin Ning leaned against the wall, his whole body feeling weak. It wasn't fear; the emotion of fear hadn't even had time to register yet.

It was because his body had reacted too quickly, leaving his brain and body feeling out of sync.

Li Zhijun cursed loudly and writhed on the ground with incredible strength.

However, the officers pinning his arms, legs, and back were no pushovers either, and they pressed him down with even greater force.

Looking at the man raving on the floor and the iron lump lying there...

The police naturally knew what had almost happened just now.

In their anger, the group showed no mercy.

After handcuffing Li Zhijun's hands and feet and carrying him to the interrogation room in the back, the other officers finally had a moment to calm the crowd and tidy up the chaotic lobby.

The Director and the Political Instructor were very grateful and brought Lin Ning to a meeting room to let him rest for a while, leaving Officer Li Feng, who had greeted him initially, to keep him Company.

Sitting in the quiet room, Lin Ning's brain finally resumed full operation.

At the same time, he couldn't help but roast himself inwardly.

It was the same when he saved the child last time, and now again. Why did his body's reaction always outpace his brain? What, were they planning to split up and live separate lives? Or was he inherently just a reckless brute?

He massaged his left arm, which was a bit strained from overexertion earlier, and gave a bitter smile.

Seeing this, Li Feng asked with concern, "Are you hurt? Let's go to the hospital for a check-up..."

In truth, Li Feng's face looked even worse than Lin Ning's.

Unlike Lin Ning, who was bold out of ignorance, Li Feng was a policeman and understood the danger of the situation much better. The lingering fear and anger in his heart had not yet dissipated.

Lin Ning shook his head. "I'm fine, probably just pulled a muscle."

He hesitated for a moment before asking, "Who was that guy? Is it okay to say?"

Li Feng thought for a moment. "You are involved, after all. But I don't know the details either. That man is an ex-convict. My master—the one you saved—was the one who caught him and sent him away."

Lin Ning... "Revenge? Then your job is way too dangerous!"

Li Feng smiled bitterly. "This is already considered one of the safer branches of the police."

Lin Ning couldn't help but think of himself. He also relied on 'catching' bad guys for a living; would someone come to take revenge on him too?

Chen Zhi had told him several times to be careful and even mentioned adding warnings to his files. The concept of 'revenge' was in his mind.

But never before this moment had Lin Ning realized the danger of this matter so profoundly.

This was a world completely different from the lives of ordinary people.

But could Lin Ning give it up?

The answer was: impossible!

It wasn't just because of the money; this was his unique Golden Finger, his key to bidding farewell to an ordinary, mediocre life, and an invitation to a brilliant, colorful world.

Given a choice, who wouldn't choose a life of passion and excitement?

Lin Ning wouldn't gamble on luck; he would be more cautious and then study hard until he could handle everything with ease.

...

The Director, the Political Instructor, and even two leaders from the bureau who rushed over later arrived.

They briefly asked Lin Ning how he had noticed something was wrong with Li Zhijun.

Lin Ning obviously wouldn't say he saw the status colors change.

He could only say that the man's expression was off, that his emotions were not just angry but strangely excited, that his hand was always in his pocket, and when he went to take something out, his eyes were murderous and fierce...

Chief Zhang looked at Lin Ning with admiration. "You're truly sharp. You're good material."

Noticing Lin Ning's delivery uniform, he felt a bit of regret.

"If only you had joined the army or gone to the police academy back then. Talent needs a place where it can be utilized. It's a pity."

The Political Instructor changed the subject and introduced the two bureau leaders to Lin Ning.

Even though the military and police are departments with less bureaucracy in the government system, once people become leaders, their praise is truly pleasant to hear and heartwarming.

The leaders were genuinely grateful to Lin Ning, whether out of personal sentiment or professional interest.

Finally.

Chief Zhang said, "You've worked hard with everything that happened today. I'll have Li Feng take you back to get some rest. I'll apply for a 'Brave Act' commendation and a reward for you later, and have him contact you directly when it's ready."

As he spoke, he patted Lin Ning's shoulder and gave his hand a firm squeeze. "Thank you! Lin Ning, well done!"

The others also smiled sincerely.

As Lin Ning walked out with Li Feng, he declined. "There's really no need to drive me; I'm perfectly fine. I still have my electric scooter here. If you drive me, what happens to my scooter?"

Qiu Liang, who had been waiting and smoking at the entrance, popped out.

"I'll ride it for you and follow behind your car."

"Oh, for goodness' sake!" Lin Ning jumped in fright.

Seeing that he had startled him, Qiu Liang quickly apologized, "Oh, sorry!"

Lin Ning waved his hand to indicate it was fine.

Qiu Liang was waiting there to say thank you; Lin Ning was essentially his savior.

After a round of thanks, he even tried to give Lin Ning money, which Lin Ning refused.

Finally, they exchanged phone numbers. Both Qiu Liang and Li Feng expressed that they were friends now and to call if he ever needed anything.

With his arm aching and the after-effects of the scare kicking in, Lin Ning rode his scooter slowly, emptying his thoughts while watching the busy atmosphere of the city as the night birds returned to their nests.

He'd been busy all day and hadn't accomplished anything.

But his mood was okay.

He just really felt like having a drink. He bought two medicated patches and stuck them on himself, deciding to go back and find Jin Er and the others to go out for barbecue and beer.

Just as he turned into Juma Bridge, Lin Ning saw from a distance...

Those three brothers, including Jin Er, were swinging their arms, hopping and skipping, their legs sliding back and forth like a bunch of idiots.

And the people around them were indeed looking at them as if they were idiots.

Lin Ning covered his face, twisted the throttle, and tried to speed away.

The moment Lin Ning passed them, Jin Er recognized him.

He shouted, "Hey, Lin Zi!!!"

Lin Ning ignored him.

As a result, those three jerks shouted in unison, "Lin Ning!!!"

With his back to them, Lin Ning continued riding forward, raising his arm high and extending his middle finger. "Jin Er, screw you!"
