Chapter 129: Searching History

Before Joshua could stand trial, Arthur released the Beastkin who had cooperated with the act.

The Lovich siblings had already established a good relationship with the guards of the Sheriff's prison.

After the Beastkin left, the Sheriff and the Priest were also invited out of their cells.

Although Joshua had also arranged for his own people in the Sheriff's office,

since this place belonged to the Sheriff, those people were quickly subdued.

The public's anger would shift from the Priest and the Sheriff to Joshua as the truth spread.

The surging public opinion would destroy Joshua's followers.

Unless those people chose to stand with public opinion and oppose their former leader.

According to Arthur, many people had already done so.

Arthur explained the whole story to the bewildered Priest and Sheriff.

However, he did not elaborate on his cooperation with the Night Outcasts.

He instructed the Sheriff and the Priest to lead the townspeople in apprehending Joshua's followers to prevent the entire town from falling into chaos.

He, himself, went to an abandoned shack not far from the Sheriff's office.

Mirabelle and her two attendants were waiting there.

"That was a brilliant performance," Mirabelle praised, "If it weren't for you, Baron,

"I wouldn't have known Randy possessed such excellent acting skills."

The tall Beastkin who had cooperated with the act snorted coldly.

He took the equipment handed to him by his companion, and while putting it on, he asked in return, "What did you do to me, Priest?"

Arthur didn't understand what he meant for a moment.

Randy then said, "I have an old injury on my shoulder that often aches faintly.

"But when the light shone on me, the pain disappeared."

"It's nothing more than a healing spell," said the Beastkin with the spice pouch.

Randy looked at him and retorted, "Then why didn't you?"

"I can let bugs eat your head," the Beastkin retorted.

"Alright, fellows, don't embarrass yourselves in front of outsiders."

Mirabelle spoke to stop their argument.

Then, turning to Arthur, she said, "We have completed everything you asked of us, Baron.

"Now, it's time to discuss the reward."

Arthur nodded and asked, "What do you want? Is it money, supplies, or something else?"

"No, no, no," Mirabelle shook her head, "The leader said to keep these favors for now, and he will claim them later."

After speaking, she spat into her hand and extended it to Arthur.

Arthur also spat into his hand and grasped hers.

They shook hands firmly, and the deal was struck.

"I'd like to meet your boss. When are you leaving?" Arthur asked.

Mirabelle thought for a moment and replied, "We are going to hunt our prey.

"And you've just startled them; they'll leave soon, and we'll leave with them.

"If you want to meet, you know where to find us.

"This time, it's your turn to visit, Baron."

"I understand," Arthur said.

After leaving the shack, Arthur noticed that the entire Mist Town was in a frenzy.

The townspeople, holding torches high, took to the streets, chasing down Joshua's accomplices.

Fear, at this moment, had completely transformed into anger.

These people blamed all the wrongs on Joshua.

"Why are they so angry?" Flora asked.

"Because someone stifled their hope."

Seeing that Arthur was not heading towards the town square, Flora asked again, "Aren't you going to watch the trial?"

"There's nothing to see," Arthur waved his hand, "It's just a hanging.

"Let's use our time for more important matters."

The two arrived at the Mayor's residence, and Arthur used Heir's key to open the door.

He wanted to understand this place more deeply.

And the Mayor's study contained many books about this place, including a chronicle of the Lovich Family.

Arthur asked Flora to help him review other materials.

The chronicle was not too thick; it was written by the patriarchs of each generation, and to call it a chronicle, it was actually more like a diary.

Among them, Stepan Lovich's records were the most worth studying.

He was the seventh Baron of Qingfeng Valley dispatched by Amn, arriving here approximately 120 years ago.

At that time, Mist Town was still managed by the Candy Family, a local family obsessed with studying magic.

Stepan Lovich, with the help of the Harpers, the Gauntlets of the Iron Hand, and the Emerald Enclave,

defeated the Candy Family and their undead army, liberating Mist Town.

He was regarded as a hero of Mist Town but died from a terrible poisoning.

To prevent the Candy Family from regaining control of Mist Town, Stepan invited the leaders of those righteous organizations before his death, asking them to form an alliance.

The Long Night Alliance was thus born.

Since then, the Lovich Family and the Long Night Alliance have continuously led and guarded Mist Town.

The resurrected Candy Family also constantly sought to reclaim Mist Town.

They were entrenched in a plantation about five kilometers outside the town.

Just then, Flora seemed to have found some important information; she walked over to Arthur and placed several pieces of bark paper in front of him.

"Look at these, My Lord, I think this is related to that church."

The content on the bark paper was written in Druidic, and not just ordinary Druidic.

Each Druidic society had its own specific internal language.

These languages evolved from the most basic Druidic.

"I saw words like 'mysterious power' and 'church' in it," Flora said, "But this language is too complex.

"It's very different from the Druidic I learned; I can't fully understand it."

Arthur picked up the bark paper and examined it; these papers had been enchanted with special magic, which was why they hadn't deteriorated.

Arthur judged based on his knowledge, "This looks very much like the work of the Emerald Enclave."

He attempted to decipher the content on the paper; the Druidic knowledge given to him by Mother Earth proved to be of great use.

Although he couldn't decipher many parts, he understood about seventy to eighty percent based on the context.

The content in the bark paper all spoke of one thing: before Qingfeng Valley was invaded by Marcus, there existed primitive worship of various gods.

The materials recorded the primitive beliefs and worship in various parts of Qingfeng Valley.

At that time, there was no Mist Town, and the tribes dominating this area worshipped wolf packs.

After the Emerald Enclave came to Qingfeng Valley, they guided the local people to establish villages and built temples for worship.

Arthur told Flora his understanding.

He asked her if she had heard of the wolf pack belief.

Flora shook her head, indicating she had no clue about it.

"What a pity, there's only this much information," Arthur sighed.

The information Flora found was incomplete, with a large portion missing.

Presumably, after Marcus conquered Qingfeng Valley, these primitive beliefs and materials were all purged.

Just then, the dull sound of bells continuously rang out.

Arthur rose and walked to the window, gazing towards the town square, murmuring, "The trial has begun."
