188: Caravan and Mushrooms

Chapter 186: The Caravan and the Mushroom People

Louis and Lanny both agreed with Arthur's proposal.

From Louis's perspective, as long as they followed this plan, they would be on firm legal ground.

Even if the Little Finger Merchant Guild wanted to claim it later, they would have sufficient evidence and wouldn't be caught off guard.

So Arthur instructed them to organize the documents as quickly as possible.

The caravan would deliver them to Lookout Fort tomorrow.

After that, Godwin would only need to forge a will, and a notary would complete the notarization process, and the matter would be settled.

To ensure the entire plan was foolproof, Arthur had Charlotte bring paper and pen and began writing a letter to Godwin.

At the same time, he instructed Nora to find Newt.

In his letter, he elaborated on Mist Town's current situation and listed all the tasks Godwin needed to assist with.

Just as Arthur was writing on the second page, Newt knocked and entered.

Upon entering, the half-elf stood respectfully opposite him, quietly awaiting his lord's instructions.

"Sit, young man, no need to be so stiff," Arthur said.

Newt thanked him, then cautiously pulled out a chair and slowly sat down.

It was interesting that although Arthur called him a "young man," Newt's actual age was considerably older than Arthur, who had only recently come of age.

However, Arthur's inherent demeanor and way of doing things always made people subconsciously overlook his true age.

"Iron Shovel recommended you to be the Captain of the caravan," Arthur continued, "and I agreed."

Newt himself lacked confidence and responded softly, "My Lord, I'm worried my experience is too shallow.

"And I don't have enough experience like the others."

"What? Are you afraid of making mistakes, or are you afraid you won't be able to command respect?" Arthur interrupted him.

Newt gave an awkward laugh: "Both."

"I heard from Iron Shovel that you used to be responsible for delivering letters and messages in the team.

"Occasionally, you would also act as a scout and carry out some stealth missions," Arthur said slowly. "Although you are not very old, your resume is richer than many others'.

"In terms of ability, most people really can't compare to you.

"I'm confident entrusting the caravan to you.

"Just go ahead and do it; if anything goes wrong, I'll take responsibility for you."

The lord's heartfelt words greatly encouraged Newt.

He said excitedly, "I will—I will not let you down."

"As for whether you can command respect, that will depend on your own abilities," Arthur added. "Please wait a moment while I finish this letter."

The letter took a full three pages to complete.

After the ink on the paper dried, Arthur carefully folded the letter and placed it in an envelope.

He then dipped his wolf ring into sealing wax and pressed his exclusive mark onto the envelope's seal.

He handed the sealed letter to Newt and solemnly instructed, "This letter must be delivered personally to Godwin; there can be no mistakes."

"Don't worry, My Lord."

Newt took the letter with both hands and carefully placed it in his satchel.

"Also, after you return, discuss with Godwin about forming a new caravan if necessary."

Arthur continued to instruct, "This new caravan must at least be able to meet our material transportation needs here.

"At the same time, it must also handle trade with Lookout Fort."

Newt nodded repeatedly, committing these words to memory.

He planned to talk to his father tonight.

After all, the position Arthur had given him was extremely important.

Both Godwin and his father had told him that the current caravan was their lifeline.

After dealing with this matter, Arthur could finally take a breather.

He let out a long sigh, closed his eyes to rest, and simultaneously pondered in his mind if there was anything he had overlooked.

In the basement of the haunted house, there was still a pile of loot waiting for him to retrieve.

However, there were still many monsters lurking there, and he had to form a reliable team to explore it.

He already had some initial thoughts on this.

The monsters in the basement were not particularly strong, making them perfect for the new army's officers to practice on.

They could also use this opportunity to strengthen their camaraderie.

There was still no news from Catherine, but Arthur estimated that he should receive a reply within the next few days.

As for the construction of Mist Town, Arthur had fully entrusted it to Iron Shovel.

Iron Shovel was experienced and reliable in this regard, so he didn't need to worry too much.

Currently, the most troublesome problem for Arthur was the shortage of personnel.

Without enough labor, even the most perfect plans would fail to progress smoothly.

Moreover, while recruiting laborers, he also had to attract talented individuals with specialized skills.

The daily operations of the merchant guild, the dissemination and execution of decrees, the popularization of public education, and negotiation and communication with external forces—each task required suitable personnel.

As Arthur was deep in thought, the maid Nora knocked on the door and reported, "My Lord, Brussian and Old Joe have come to see you."

Arthur opened his eyes and said, "Let them in."

No sooner had he spoken than the dwarf scurried into the kitchen and said, "When did you move your office here, My Lord?

Arthur looked up and replied with a smile, "I thought I could save some time by handling affairs while eating.

"You already have results from the things I brought back earlier?"

"Of course! Who else but a genius like me?" Old Joe laughed proudly. "Those fungi and spores are all excellent alchemical materials!

"Some of them can be used as catalysts in the alchemy process.

And some can be used to make various alchemical medicines, similar to the uses of those special gases in the swamp.

"By the way, may I ask where you got these things?"

"Old Joe, you should know that's not what I want to know right now," Arthur waved his hand. "I'm only concerned with what practical benefits these things can bring to our Mist Town."

The dwarf extended a finger and slowly said, "That depends on what you want.

This stuff is quite popular in Amn's upper society.

"Of course, it can also be used in the medical field."

Before he could finish speaking, Old Hutu burst in unceremoniously and loudly proclaimed, "The dwarf is right!

These spores must come from the Mushroom People!

"Hey, kid, I still have a lot of patients waiting for amputations. Can you get some more?"

Old Joe couldn't help but roll his eyes, giving him an annoyed look.

"So, the substance extracted from these spores is a type of anesthetic?"

Arthur ignored their little interlude, focusing on the key point and confirming with them.

"Anesthetic?" Old Hutu tilted his head in thought, then nodded, "That name sounds good. We used to call this medicine 'paralysis medicine.'"
