Chapter 138: The Agreement
“What on earth are you babbling about, my dear Baron?”
“Didn’t I tell you? The Wolf Pack once had a fierce battle with Marcus.”
“They successfully wounded him—I mean, truly inflicted a severe injury.”
“Leaving a wound deep within that monster’s soul that could never heal.”
“It was precisely with this wound that the vampire hunter Adolf and his allies managed to put him into a long slumber.”
Arthur forced a smile, barely suppressing the anger surging within him.
He could tell this woman was clearly retaliating against him.
Most likely because he had refused to engage with her, hurting her pride as a woman.
“I’m sure you didn’t mention that just now,” Arthur said.
“Oh, really? You know, my Lord,” the woman replied slowly, “I’m not as intelligent as you nobles, nor do I possess the charming allure of noblewomen.”
“But do you know what can help one recall memories?”
Arthur understood and took out his money pouch, emptying the remaining eight silver coins.
The silver coins gleamed brilliantly in the firelight.
One silver coin was tossed into the wooden basin.
“Oh, don’t be so stingy, Baron.”
Another silver coin dropped in.
“Alright, alright, I’m starting to remember, it’s coming back to me now.”
Arthur suddenly laughed, the anger in his heart having dissipated.
He reached out and tossed all the remaining silver coins into the wooden basin.
Varana immediately straightened up: “I remember.”
“I remember. Although that vicious monster is currently sleeping in its coffin, its minions are constantly searching for a way to heal it.”
“Please be careful, Baron. Those dark minions are powerful and have many eyes and ears.”
“The ‘bride’ closest to you has probably already detected your presence. You must be fully prepared; she could visit at any time.”
“There is someone who can help you. He is familiar with Mist Town, and his vast knowledge can provide you with much assistance.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the young woman darted forward with a speed that completely exceeded Arthur’s expectations.
Her slender finger lightly touched Arthur’s forehead, and a series of messages instantly flooded the Baron’s mind.
Through the forest, past the fork in the road, a wooden house, an old man—these pieces of information were branded into his memory.
A few seconds later, Arthur recovered and complained, “You could have told me in advance so I could be prepared.”
“How else would I make money then?”
“Alright, Baron, I hope this helps you.”
But Arthur did not get up to leave; instead, he asked, “I feel that the money I’ve spent should buy me much more.”
“Oh? Such as?”
“You must know something about what happened at the plantation, right?”
Varana picked up a teacup and handed it to Arthur: “This is mushroom tea; it helps people calm down.”
“I can hear the impatience in your tone.”
“Relax, Baron, I will make sure your money is well spent.”
Under the young woman’s gaze, Arthur took a sip of the tea.
He had to admit, this so-called mushroom tea didn’t taste very good.
“Can you speak now?”
“Three brothers, for their own interests, embarked on the same path.”
“Are you talking about the three Candy brothers?” Arthur asked.
“If you keep interrupting me like this, Baron, this story will become very long,” Varana chuckled.
“The ancestor of the Candy family, Isgrasa, was once Marcus’s Throne Seer.”
“He was ordered by his master to find a way to prolong life.”
“Legend has it that he brought back a magic scroll that granted immortality. For this, Marcus rewarded him with Mist Town.”
“After the First Purge War, Marcus, who was still human, was defeated by the allied forces.”
Isgrasa was also purged, and the scroll went missing.
“But in fact, Isgrasa had been studying the magic on the scroll, and he succeeded, transforming into an Undead with reason.”
“However, his ambition was not yet realized when he was defeated by Stepan Lovich, and everything was reduced to ashes.”
Hearing this, Arthur couldn’t help but interject, “But he didn’t truly die, did he?”
“He has been hiding in the plantation, waiting for the opportunity to be reborn.”
“Now that Marcus is in slumber and Qingfeng Valley is leaderless, he also wants a piece of the pie?”
Varana nodded: “Because of this, he used the power of the scroll to transform those three brothers, turning them into terrifying monsters.”
“If you want to defeat those Undead, the best way is to eliminate Isgrasa.”
“You had best send someone to check the family crypt at the plantation.”
“I understand.” Arthur nodded thoughtfully. “Now, one last thing.”
“I am not a wishing well, Baron,” Varana reminded him.
“I mean, what do you think about the matter I brought up earlier?”
“You are very generous, my Lord,” Varana admitted, “but I am not so naive as to think you would give us those things for free.”
“What do you want in return?”
Arthur cleared his throat: “No matter who you signed trade agreements with before, they are now void.”
“From now on, you can only sign with me.”
A burst of laughter erupted; Varana seemed to have heard the biggest joke: “I say, my Lord, aren’t you being a bit unreasonable?”
Arthur stood up: “Listen, I don’t care if you truly care about the Wolf Pack, nor do I care who you were trading with before. Now it’s my turn to be in charge.”
“I will find a way to rescue your former deity.”
“When that day truly comes, I believe you will remember the agreement we made today, and not the wrath you incurred by refusing me.”
“Watch your words, Baron,” the young woman’s voice became as cold as a venomous snake.
She retreated, half her body disappearing into the darkness. “An agreement is an agreement. If we casually break it, no one will be willing to do business with us in the future.”
The young Baron smiled: “Everything has a price, madam.”
“The choice is yours. To get those things, you must abide by the new rules.”
“Although I don’t know what your ultimate goal is, for now, our objectives are consistent.”
“But don’t take me for a fool who knows nothing. If you want to use me as a tool, you’ll at least have to cut off a piece of flesh.”
“Abandon those agreements, consider it a show of your sincerity, how about that?”
Arthur extended his hand.
Varana was silent for a while before asking, “Do you know who we signed the agreement with?”
“Besides the Little Finger Merchant Guild, I can’t think of anyone else.”
“Then you should also understand their capabilities, shouldn’t you?”
Arthur countered, “Then you should also know that they are also doing business with the Black Blood People, shouldn’t you?”
“If you can truly rescue the Wolf Pack—”
“I will definitely succeed,” Arthur said with certainty.
He knew in his heart that if he couldn’t find a way to rescue that demigod’s avatar,
He would either be swallowed by Isgrasa’s horde of corpses and the Night Mist, or bitten to death by the visiting bride.
“I need to discuss it with my people,” Varana replied.
Arthur withdrew his hand and reminded her, “Hurry, madam, opportunity waits for no one.”
