194: Clearance Mission

Chapter 191: Extermination Mission

Jessica assembled a team of thirty to clear the Undead from the Plantation.

To ensure efficient operation, this team was divided into three independent squads.

The first squad was commanded by Arthur, with Sariya as his adjutant. Most of the members were from the Pioneer Group, including Drax and Flora.

To ensure Arthur's safety, Jessica specifically assigned the elite members to the Lord.

As for Jessica himself, he led the second squad, whose members were mostly from Grey's subordinates.

To ensure his commands were smoothly conveyed, he specifically appointed Azrak and Elandriel as his adjutants.

These two shared a common trait: absolute loyalty. Even the most outlandish orders would be executed without question.

The third squad was led by Ruby, and all its members were her personal confidantes.

This was undoubtedly the weakest of the three squads.

Based on the intelligence provided by Arthur, Jessica planned three extermination locations.

Arthur voluntarily chose the winery, which was deepest within the Plantation's heartland.

On one hand, his squad comprised elite forces capable of handling complex situations.

On the other hand, he also wanted to obtain the wine recipe.

After Arthur selected his target, Jessica chose the mill.

The corn farm, located on the outermost edge of the Plantation, was assigned to Ruby's third squad.

Everyone knew this would not be a quick battle.

Therefore, everyone carried dry rations.

Alcohol was also essential, but to avoid chaos, it was kept and distributed by the officers.

With all preparations complete, the team officially departed after breakfast.

The security of Mist Town was entirely entrusted to Grey.

Old Joe and Brussian joined Arthur's team. Brussian was quite familiar with the Plantation's situation and spent the journey introducing the environment to the team members.

He told everyone that the Candy Family's Plantation covered an area far exceeding that of Mist Town.

Its scale was so vast that it could easily be considered an independent town. The entire Plantation was divided into four main areas, with the largest being the corn farm.

In addition to growing corn, these fields were also used for crop rotation with timothy grass and soybeans.

“Timothy grass is the most common fodder here,” the Druid explained to the soldiers.

“If you keep speaking so loudly, the Undead will probably be attracted,” Old Joe couldn't help but interject, “I think we're more interested in the Plantation's layout than fodder right now.”

“Alright, alright,” the Druid waved his hand and continued, “To the west, near Wolf Creek, is the mill, which is also the wheat growing area.

“To the north is the Candy Family's manor.

Behind the manor is the most famous vineyard.

“I must say, the Candy Family are all scoundrels, but they certainly know how to make wine.”

“Thank you very much for your introduction, Sir,” Jessica interjected, “Has everyone heard clearly?

“Our mission this time is to clear the Undead from the corn farm, the mill, and the manor.

“This way, no matter where the Candy Family's ancient tomb is hidden, it will be isolated and helpless.

“Then it will be much easier for us to take that place.”

Jessica didn't care if the soldiers truly understood; he just wanted to give them a reason to fight.

Sometimes, the logic of battle is that simple.

As long as soldiers are given a goal or a mission, they will carry it out without hesitation, regardless of right or wrong.

When the team reached the first fork in the road, Ruby's squad was the first to separate from the main group.

Soon after, Jessica's team also set off towards the mill.

Before leaving, he repeatedly urged Sariya to fully prioritize Arthur's safety.

Finally, Old Joe, Brussian, and Xiao Lingdang also left.

However, before leaving, Old Joe gave each squad three bottles of Blazing Fire Glue, which he had just concocted in recent days.

Arthur, in turn, instructed them to be extra careful, and if they encountered trouble, to prioritize their own safety and retreat promptly.

Arthur's squad arrived near the manor around noon.

Along the way, they encountered several small-scale Undead attacks.

These Undead were continuously gathering under the control of some power.

Arthur fully entrusted command of the team to Sariya.

Among everyone, the female warrior undoubtedly possessed the most extensive battlefield experience.

Sariya quickly selected a suitable location to set up camp.

With a series of commands issued, the soldiers immediately busied themselves.

After the camp was initially settled, Sariya found Arthur and reported the current situation to him.

The young Baron looked towards the manor in the distance and said, “I will go to the manor to scout the situation later.”

“My Lord?” Sariya didn't immediately understand Arthur's meaning, and a puzzled expression appeared on her face.

“I can become invisible, and the Undead won't see me,” Arthur explained, “I am the most suitable person to scout.”

“I... I don't think that's a good idea.” Sariya was still full of worry.

Arthur's gaze turned to the soldiers in the camp who were munching on dry rations, and he retorted, “Then what do you intend to do, Commander?

“Send out scouts? But as you've seen, the closer we get to the manor, the more Undead we encounter.

“This can only mean one thing: that manor is probably teeming with Necro creatures.

Can you guarantee that the scouts you send out won't be discovered?

“Whereas I can completely guarantee that I won't expose my whereabouts.”

Sariya pondered for a moment and finally approved Arthur's plan.

“My Lord, you know that Sir Jessica sent us here to protect your safety.

“But now it seems more like you are protecting us.

Are you really sure that doing this won't put you in danger?

“I've done something similar before, don't worry.” Arthur reassured her, “Besides, we are a team; there's no such thing as one person unilaterally protecting another.”

“I understand.” Sariya nodded and then asked, “Then when do you plan to depart?”

Arthur looked up at the sun in the sky and said, “Without further ado, I'll set off now.

“Be vigilant of your surroundings; I think more and more Undead will flock here.”

“I understand, My Lord.” Sariya responded.

Then, Arthur put on his invisibility cloak and walked towards the manor.

Although Sariya had mentally prepared herself, when Arthur's figure suddenly vanished before her eyes, she was still startled.

“earth mother above.” She made a praying gesture across her chest.

The Commander stood in place for a moment, and after confirming that Arthur had gone far, she turned and walked towards the center of the camp.

She went directly to Flora and Drax and told them about Arthur going to scout alone.

“What?” Flora, upon hearing the news, suddenly jumped up, “He went alone?”

“I think no one among us can still be invisible, right?

“But even so, he shouldn't—” Flora pressed her forehead, “He shouldn't go adventuring alone; at least someone should be sent to support him.”

“My Lord is worried that we will disturb the Undead,” Sariya explained.

Flora exhaled a long breath, “I'm familiar with the wilderness environment; I'll go to support him.”

Drax, who was beside her, spoke up to stop her, “Relax, girl. My Lord knows what he's doing.”

“Big guy, I can't relax,” Flora said seriously, “Lord Arthur is the core of everything.

“Now the entire Mist Town needs him; we cannot let him take risks.

“After this is over, I absolutely must have a good talk with him.”

“He's done a similar reconnaissance before,” the Orc said.

He then told Flora about yesterday's events.

After finishing, without waiting for Flora to retort, he added, “If My Lord needs our help, he will definitely speak up.”

This statement indeed enlightened Flora.

Recalling her interactions with Arthur during this time, she also realized that Arthur was by no means someone who would act rashly. Flora gradually calmed down, paced a few steps in the camp, and then sat back down in her original spot.

Seeing her like this, Sariya also understood how to proceed.

She spoke, “It seems that all we can do now is wait patiently.”
