11: Chapter 11 Appeal

Lin Xueyao’s cheeks were flushed, and her large eyes sparkled with moisture.

“Brother Nianchen, I only have one younger brother, of course I have to take care of him.”

Xiao Nianchen sneered inwardly. Not only was she a gold-digger, but also a fudi mo.

For a moment, he thought, maybe it would be better to return such a bane to Song Yuan.

Who would dare marry a woman like this? Marrying one meant marrying her entire family!

But at the moment, if he didn't do something, he wouldn't be a man.

“You let go of my brother first, and then I’ll talk to you about your brother.”

Lin Xueyao let go and pushed him on the chest.

“Hmph!”

Xiao Nianchen carried her back to the bedroom, pressing her beneath him to coax her.

“It’s just a few hundred thousand yuan. I’ll ask my mom for it tomorrow, and I’ll definitely give it to you.”

A smile appeared on Lin Xueyao’s face. He had easily captured the fortress.

Xiao Nianchen looked at the marks on the bed, his heart and eyes filled with satisfaction. She really hadn’t lied to him; it was truly her first time.

Lin Xueyao held onto Xiao Nianchen, refusing to let go.

“Brother Nianchen, you’ll marry me, won’t you?”

“Yes!”

Marry you? In your dreams!

“Which company does your fiancé work for?”

Lin Xueyao pouted.

“At a time like this, why bring him up?”

Xiao Nianchen took a post-coital cigarette, every hair on his body feeling refreshed.

“It’s just that I slept with someone’s woman, and I feel a little bad about it. I want to look after him at work.”

Lin Xueyao told Xiao Nianchen the company name.

Xiao Nianchen had originally planned to send her back the next day, but he was overcome with lust for two days and kept her until Monday, sending her to the company early in the morning.

Song Yuan stayed at Yuehu Bay for two days, and Lin Xueyao didn’t return. He thought she had completely moved out and might not even want her belongings anymore.

He had arranged for his aunt to finalize the house sale today, but his aunt called to say that her mother-in-law had unexpectedly passed away, and she wouldn’t have time to come over recently.

She asked him to hold onto the house for a while and even transferred another 20,000 yuan as a deposit.

Song Yuan simply didn't bother finding someone to clean up and went to work at the company first.

Song Yuan was preparing to resign. He planned to dedicate a significant portion of his future time to his own game development.

Gu Shiyuan, the junior he had been introduced to by his professor, had already integrated well with them over the past few days. Their small group chat was very active. Gu Shiyuan said his family had a vacant loft that could be used as an office space.

Song Yuan and Lu Chi discussed it and decided to pay him rent each month instead of looking for another place.

Song Yuan's resignation email hadn't even been submitted yet when a subordinate knocked on his door to report work.

“Boss, there’s a bug in the project that went online a few days ago, and the guys are having some trouble fixing it.”

“What’s the problem?”

“When too many people access the website simultaneously, the system crashes. We spent two days troubleshooting over the weekend and changed a lot of the code logic. It’s stable for now, but we can’t guarantee it won’t crash again if even more people access it next time.”

Song Yuan closed his email and replied,

“I’ll follow up on this issue. You guys continue developing new features as planned.”

Song Yuan opened the code to troubleshoot. He was a responsible person and wouldn’t leave unresolved issues behind and just walk away.

He was engrossed in his work when his direct superior’s internal line rang.

“Song Yuan, come to my office for a moment. I need to talk to you about something.”

Song Yuan locked his computer screen and went upstairs.

“Mr. Wang, what can I do for you?”

Wang Jincai was a smiling tiger, his face etched with a standard fake smile.

“Song Yuan, you’ve been in the director position for three years. You haven’t made any mistakes in your work, but you haven’t achieved anything either. The company is losing money by keeping you, so we’ve decided to terminate your employment contract. You should look for another job. I wish you all the best.

You don’t need to hand over your work either; you can leave the company now.”

Song Yuan scoffed. He was fired? And he didn't even have to fix the bug?

“Mr. Wang, since you said there’s no need for a handover, then don’t come looking for me if something goes wrong in the future. I’m very busy.”

Wang Jincai didn't realize he had cut off a major artery by laying off Song Yuan. He waved his hand, puffing out his belly, an arrogant posture.

“Don’t worry, we definitely won’t look for you. Our company is full of talented people; work can proceed with or without you.”

Song Yuan said nothing more, went downstairs, gathered his belongings, and left. He didn't even need to send a resignation email anymore.

As he was leaving, several development team leaders, whom he had personally mentored, were even more agitated than he was.

“Boss, if Old Wang dares to fire you, we’re not working either! Wherever you go, we’ll follow you and switch jobs!”

Song Yuan was a little touched.

“Don’t be impulsive and do something foolish. I haven’t settled down yet. Are you going to follow me and starve?”

Li Lei was the most emotional.

“I’d rather starve with you, boss! If it weren’t for you these past few years, my technical skills wouldn’t have improved so significantly, and the company’s website wouldn’t have been so smooth-sailing. A company that crosses the river and then tears down the bridge isn’t worth staying at!”

“Yes, boss, we’ll follow you! Even if we don’t make money, we accept it!”

Everyone spoke one after another, and even a few test engineers and product managers also clamored that they were quitting and wanted to follow him. For a moment, no one in the office bothered with work anymore, and the situation was almost out of control.

Song Yuan was moved by this camaraderie.

“Everyone, listen to me. Don’t be impulsive. I definitely can’t lead you into a pit of fire. I’m also in a difficult situation right now. The general economic environment isn’t good, and finding a job isn’t that easy. You absolutely must not resign without a new job lined up. Even if you want to leave, you should look for a new job while still employed. Find your next employer first. Think about the monthly mortgage and car loan payments, and think about your family!”

Everyone thought he made sense, and no one spoke for a moment.

Upstairs in the office, Wang Jincai stood in front of the glass door, watching the scene downstairs, sweating profusely. He hadn't expected that laying off one person could cause such a huge commotion. That Song Yuan usually seemed quiet, yet he had such great charisma, almost taking his entire team with him!

He wiped a sweaty palm and called the other side.

“Mr. Xiao, you must keep your promise. If that Song Yuan takes my team, I’ll be a bare commander. If the project progress is delayed, a single word from above can get me fired.”

Downstairs, after bidding farewell to everyone, Song Yuan left with his belongings.

After striving for so many years, this was the first time he felt so relaxed. His job was gone, his fiancée was gone, and instead of feeling sad, he felt a sense of liberation.

He finally had time to do what he loved.

Song Yuan drove his car to the riverside to enjoy the breeze for a while when a call came in from an unknown number.

“Is this Mr. Song? I’m Miss Gu’s assistant. When are you free? Miss Gu would like to meet you.”

Song Yuan’s first reaction was that it was a scammer. Where would he know a Miss Gu? A pig-butchering scam, it must be a pig-butchering scam!

He was about to hang up when the other side said,

“Mr. Song, Miss Gu is asking if you’ve thought about the last matter. You can boldly state your conditions.”

Song Yuan’s heart skipped a beat. He suddenly remembered the woman’s call a few days ago, saying she wanted to take responsibility for him and to think carefully about what he wanted, and she would fulfill it when she returned from her business trip.
