5: Chapter 5 She Regrets a Little

When Lin Xueyao thought of Song Yuan, a hint of regret flashed in her heart. She regretted that she had spoken too harshly that day, even telling him that he would never reach Xiao Nianchen's height.

Recalling those words now, they seemed a bit too damaging to a man's self-esteem.

Especially comparing him to another man and putting him down, anyone would feel bad hearing that.

Lin Xueyao fumbled for her phone under her pillow. She expected Song Yuan to send her an apology message, but the phone was as quiet as a chicken.

How could that be? Was it out of service?

She checked her balance; there was still money.

Song Yuan really hadn't sent her a message or called her.

A feeling of inexplicable grievance welled up in Lin Xueyao, her nose tingled, and tears fell from the corners of her eyes.

She suddenly wanted to confront Song Yuan and ask him why he had just left her, knowing she was afraid of thunder, yet he hadn't even sent a message to comfort her.

Three years of feelings, just let go like that. If it were another woman who was after his money, making him pay more, would he then not have left so decisively?

Lin Xueyao felt her best friend was right; she had demanded too little from Song Yuan, which resulted in her having no weight in his heart.

She curled up in bed, wiping away tears, and finally couldn't help but dial that familiar number, but what answered her was a busy signal.

Lin Xueyao suddenly remembered that when they broke up yesterday, Song Yuan had blocked her contact right in front of her.

Lin Xueyao felt that if she continued like this, she would soon develop mammary hyperplasia. Song Yuan was truly going to infuriate her.

She decided she wouldn't easily forgive him, even if he sent her expensive Hotan jade earrings, she wouldn't easily go back!

Lin Xueyao heard the rain and thunder and barely closed her eyes for the latter half of the night. The next day, she arrived at the company with two big dark circles under her eyes.

As soon as she turned on her computer, Ms. Xu, General Manager Gu's special assistant, called her internal line.

"Lin Xueyao, yesterday I asked you to organize the documents General Manager Gu needed for her business trip. What kind of mess did you organize?"

Lin Xueyao was confused. Had she organized them incorrectly?

"Assistant Xu, is there a problem?"

"You still dare to ask? General Manager Gu is very angry. Go to the Presidents Office yourself and explain!"

After hanging up the phone, Lin Xueyao felt a huge mountain pressing down on her head. She dreaded going to the Presidents Office; every time she went, that female demon would scold her mercilessly.

Lin Xueyao tried to recall yesterday's work content but couldn't figure anything out. With a nervous heart, she arrived at the Presidents Office on the top floor. After gently knocking a few times, she heard a voice,

"Come in!"

Lin Xueyao entered the room and was hit full on by a stack of documents.

"Is this trash what you submitted?"

Lin Xueyao quickly crouched down to pick up the papers scattered all over the floor, and replied guiltily,

"Yes!"

Gu Shiyu, the General Manager of Gus, was a well-known female demon in the industry. She was cold and decisive in the business world. Since taking over Gus Group, in just three years, she had led Gus Group into the top fifty of the world's five hundred strongest enterprises.

Entrepreneurs in the circle were all afraid of her, let alone Lin Xueyao, a small secretary.

Lin Xueyao felt an overwhelming sense of oppression at that moment.

Gu Shiyu flipped through the documents in her hand, asking without even looking up,

"What's your name, and how much does the company pay you monthly?"

Lin Xueyao took a breath and replied,

"Lin Xueyao, six thousand five after tax."

Gu Shiyu glanced sideways at Assistant Ms. Xu, and said concisely,

"You get what you pay for. You can't even print existing documents correctly. It seems you can't do anything well. Fire her! Recruit a capable person. Salary is not an issue; don't save money on hiring people for me."

Lin Xueyao's heart tightened, and tears were about to burst out. In this job market, it was hard to find work, let alone a job in such a large enterprise.

"General Manager Gu, I will do my job well. Please give me another chance!"

Gu Shiyu signed the document, still without looking up,

"Why should I trust you?"

Lin Xueyao bit her lip, and for a long time couldn't think of any advantage she had, so she looked to Ms. Xu for help.

Ms. Xu spoke up,

"General Manager Gu, there's only an hour and a half left until the flight takes off. It takes thirty-five minutes to drive from our company to the airport, and we need to factor in time for traffic jams. You have at most five minutes left to handle work now."

Gu Shiyu finally put down the documents in her hand and looked up at the person standing on the floor, changing her words,

"Then we'll talk about it when I get back. Please gather these proposals for me to read on the way. Let's leave now!"

Lin Xueyao breathed a sigh of relief. Back at her desk, she still felt lingering fear. She silently prayed that the female demon would forget about this matter when she returned from her business trip.

The more Lin Xueyao thought about it, the more scared she became. If Assistant Xu hadn't spoken up for her just now, she would have been fired on the spot!

She now couldn't help but want to find someone to complain to; she desperately needed comfort.

Lin Xueyao hid in the stairwell and subconsciously pulled out Song Yuan's number from her phone, only to realize and then find Xiao Nianchen's number to dial.

The phone rang once, twice, three times, but what answered her was always a cold robotic voice.

Lin Xueyao felt wronged. Song Yuan would never not answer her calls; he would always give her enough emotional value when she needed it.

Thinking of this, Lin Xueyao missed Song Yuan a little. She wondered what he was busy with, and if he was so anxious about the breakup that he couldn't write code anymore?

She opened Song Yuan's chat box on WeChat, hesitated for a long time, and then composed a message to send.

【Song Yuan, can you pick me up after work today? And by the way, bring me a cup of milk tea from that shop near your company!】

After sending the message, Lin Xueyao suddenly felt a little regretful. Would her compromise be too easy on Song Yuan?

After all, he hadn't even formally apologized.

Lin Xueyao thought of her best friend's words: lowering her head first would make Song Yuan think she was an easy woman to control, and she would always be the weaker party in front of him, never valued.

But now the message couldn't be recalled.

Forget it, she'd just ride in Song Yuan's car once, give him a break this time.

Tonight, she'd make him kneel by the bed and recite the 'Rules for Men'!

On the other side, Song Yuan indeed felt a few more points of anxiety, but not because of breaking up with Lin Xueyao.

Today was the eighth day of the wedding countdown!

Where was he going to find a woman to marry?

Song Yuan analyzed all the single women in his contact list, but none of them were suitable for a flash marriage.

He couldn't just conjure a woman out of thin air.

His mom called and told him to come home after work, specifically instructing him to bring his fiancée.

Song Yuan felt his head spinning.

As he was pondering, he received a WeChat notification on his phone.

Song Yuan opened WeChat and saw the message from Lin Xueyao, his face full of question marks.

What was this young lady expecting?

Song Yuan typed a message in the chat box; he had to make it clear to her!
