183: Kneeling down

The Presidents Office door closed, and Gu Shiyu didn't even prepare a cup of tea for Meng Xuelin.

"General Manager Meng, please make it brief. I have plans after work later."

Gu Shiyu glanced at her wristwatch.

"Ten minutes."

Meng Xuelin knelt on the ground with a thud.

"My scoundrel son has already turned himself in. He previously did some inappropriate things and offended General Manager Gu. I'm here to apologize on his behalf and beg General Manager Gu for forgiveness!"

Gu Shiyu sat astride the sofa, one leg crossed over the other, her aura intimidatingly strong.

Seeing Meng Xuelin kneel, Gu Shiyu stood up and moved aside, avoiding Meng Xuelin's knees.

"General Manager Meng, there's no need for this. Collective punishment isn't popular these days. The mistake was made by your son; it has nothing to do with you.

It's not appropriate for someone your age to kneel to me. I'll just consider you kneeling to a deity, praying for divine protection so your son truly repents and doesn't mess up again after his reformation."

Seeing that Gu Shiyu wasn't buying it, Meng Xuelin awkwardly got up from the ground.

"I only ask that General Manager Gu doesn't suppress me in the Beijing Circle anymore. If you let me pass this hurdle, whatever you say goes!"

Gu Shiyu knew full well how desperate Meng Xuelin was now, but his desperation was his own business and had nothing to do with her.

"I haven't suppressed you. If you don't believe me, you can contact General Manager Sun and General Manager Liu, who previously agreed to lend you money. I haven't met with them recently, so how could I have suppressed you?"

Meng Xuelin was on the verge of tears.

"Even if you haven't met with them, they still act according to your wishes. General Manager Gu, please let me off!"

Gu Shiyu smiled.

"What can they do if they want to follow me? You can't possibly expect me to lend you money against my will, can you? That's impossible. General Manager Meng, don't expect to borrow a single cent from me. It's already good enough that I'm not kicking you while you're down."

Meng Xuelin continued,

"If General Manager Gu could put in a good word for me, or if I arrange a gathering tomorrow and you express your stance to show the friendly relationship between our two families, all the connections behind me will be at your disposal."

Gu Shiyu countered him,

"Are we friendly? How are we friendly?"

Meng Xuelin was left speechless.

"Ten minutes are up, General Manager Meng, please help yourself out."

Gu Shiyu's attitude didn't change at all, and she directly ordered him to leave.

Meng Xuelin had no choice but to leave dejectedly.

Once he left, only Gu Shiyu and Song Yuan remained in the office.

Today was the day Gu Shiyu had scheduled her prenatal check-up, and the two had originally agreed to go to the hospital together after work, but they were delayed by a few minutes.

Song Yuan helped her pack her bag on the desk.

"Shiyu, we're going for the prenatal check-up now, but we'll have to take your car. I was kidnapped by Meng Xuelin, so my car was left at the company."

Gu Shiyu was still a bit angry.

"That old man is too audacious! He actually used you to threaten me, and still has the nerve to ask for my help. Do I look like such a kind-hearted person?"

Song Yuan comforted her,

"He probably saw that you have a sharp tongue but a soft heart. But it's about the matter, not the person. We can't be saints; let that old man fend for himself.

Don't be angry; he's not worth it."

Gu Shiyu looked at him.

"He didn't do anything to you, did he?"

As she spoke, she lifted Song Yuan's arms and legs, checking him thoroughly.

"If he dared to lay a hand on you, I'd make him bankrupt!"

Song Yuan moved around to show her, proving he wasn't injured.

"I'm fine. Meng Xuelin brought a few bodyguards. They ambushed me in the parking lot and took me directly to the car. If it were just him, he couldn't have done anything to me.

His goal was to see you. He needed your help, so he wouldn't dare to harm me, don't worry."

Gu Shiyu's heart returned to her chest.

She had been in such a hurry just now that she even forgot to put on her coat when going downstairs.

Gu Shiyu picked up the coat from the hanger, put it on, and called the driver. The two went downstairs together.

Gu Shiyu had scheduled an appointment at a private hospital owned by a friend, so there was no need to queue. They went directly for the examination upon arrival.

Song Yuan followed behind. The results showed that the two little ones were developing well in her belly, but there was one thing to note: Gu Shiyu had gained four catties in a week, which was over the limit for a pregnant woman in early pregnancy.

The doctor advised,

"Family members must cooperate and supervise. The pregnant woman's diet structure must be reasonable; she can't eat whatever she wants. If this continues, she'll gain forty or fifty catties by the time she gives birth. The important thing isn't the weight; if her blood sugar is high in the later stages, you'll have something to cry about!"

Song Yuan guaranteed repeatedly,

"Doctor, we'll go back and re-plan our three meals a day. I will definitely supervise!"

Back in the car, Gu Shiyu had a long face.

"What should I do? I'm hungry... I can't just endure it, can I? I'll faint from hunger!"

Song Yuan scratched his brow.

"How about this: we eat healthily. Let's skip those small biscuits and snacks and replace them with high-protein beef jerky, milk, nuts, eggs, etc. These won't raise blood sugar, won't make you fat, and have no additives. What do you think?"

Gu Shiyu pursed her lips, reluctantly agreeing,

"Alright..."

"Then let Ms. Xu take all those biscuits from your office, so you won't be tempted when you see them. Tomorrow is Saturday, I'll go out and buy you replacement snacks!"

Song Yuan ruffled the bangs on her forehead.

"You still remember the wedding photoshoot this weekend, right?"

Gu Shiyu's expression froze.

"If you hadn't said anything, I really would have forgotten. My memory... At my current rate of weight gain, I'll turn into a ball in no time. This really needs to be put on the agenda!"

Song Yuan stared at Gu Shiyu for a long time.

"Shiyu, thank you."

Gu Shiyu rolled her eyes at him.

"Thank me for what? Are you silly?"

"Alright, alright, I'm silly. Shiyu, did you really dare to transfer the shares to Meng Xuelin? Aren't you afraid that your grandmother's lifelong efforts will be ruined in your hands?"

Only then did Gu Shiyu understand that Song Yuan's earlier 'thank you' was for this.

"It's not a matter of daring or not daring; it's that I had no choice. The company isn't as important as a person to me. There's a saying, 'As long as the green hills remain, there will always be wood to burn.'

I believe that even without the company, with you and me working together, we can still create a great enterprise in the future. My grandmother is so capable, surely I won't be a good-for-nothing?"

Song Yuan only admired his wife. In his life, he admired his old master the most, and second only to Gu Shiyu.

Her broad-mindedness in those words just now was not something ordinary people possessed. With her magnanimity, it would be unreasonable if she didn't create a business empire.

"My wife is naturally the most capable!"

The next day was Saturday. Song Yuan finally had some free time, and he planned to visit several gold shops to see if he could find out the origin of the golden lock.

The dozen or so shops he had crossed out on the list were already eliminated; some of these shops no longer existed. The few circled ones were relatively close and could be visited at once.

Gu Shiyu needed to catch up on sleep, so Song Yuan didn't plan to wake her.

In the morning, he got up, ate something simple, and drove towards his destination, hoping that some master would recognize this golden lock.
