209: Mr. Ji, spare my life

Ji Qingxue wanted to say something to retort, but Ji City stopped her. He shielded his wife and daughter behind him.

“You can order me around because I am your son. But if someone bullies my wife and child, I will not allow it.”

Ji City’s tone was firm, a complete change from his usual foolish filial piety, leaving no room for Old Lady.

He was truly enraged.

The attempt to harm his daughter touched his bottom line.

He now had a terrifying suspicion: could the person who pushed Ji Qingxue into the artificial lake be the same person who snatched his son away back then?

If so, he had truly offended a sinister villain.

Old Lady didn’t dwell on that; her purpose in coming today was to first resolve her eldest grandson’s matter.

Old Lady spoke in a commanding tone,

“Your own nephew is in trouble; you must get him out!”

Ji City scoffed,

“You still don’t know why Ji Sheng was arrested, do you? I’ll tell you the whole story now.

Ji Sheng forged documents, imitated my signature, and even stole my official seal to withdraw sixty million yuan from the finance department and transfer it to someone else.

He is already suspected of an economic crime, and now with all the human and material evidence, it’s just a matter of closing the case.”

Old Lady was so shocked that her feet stumbled, and she almost couldn’t stand steady.

“What did you say? Impossible! This is absolutely impossible; I’d stake my life on it, Ji Sheng isn’t that kind of child. Although he can be a bit careless, he knows what’s important.”

Ji City directly made her give up hope,

“I was the one who signaled Qingxue to call the police. The police have almost finished their investigation, and the fingerprints left on my official seal match Ji Sheng’s. Not even a god can save him!”

Old Lady now realized the seriousness of the situation and her legs instantly went weak.

Steward Yang ran over to support her.

“Old Madam, Old Madam, you mustn’t get emotional; you need to take care of yourself!”

How could Ji City not feel heartache seeing his own mother, but he was truly angered by Old Lady’s outrageous actions.

This time, no matter how Old Lady acted, he would not soften.

Wrong is wrong. If he continued to indulge them, it would only make those eyeing his assets more arrogant.

Today, he would make his stance clear.

“I know you’ve always schemed for Ji Sheng and Ji Li. First, you suggested I arrange for them to train in various departments of the company, then you helped them secure important positions, and even asked me for shares for them.

Today, I’m laying it out here: impossible!”

Old Lady was so angry she rolled her eyes, her whole body too weak to stand, leaning on Steward Yang for support.

“You, you unfilial son! You actually personally sent your own nephew to prison! Aren’t you afraid you won’t be able to face your father in the afterlife?”

Ji City calmly said,

“My father wouldn’t be as biased as you. He was a good father with sound morals and a kind heart. Unfortunately, an illness took his life.

If he were still alive, he wouldn’t watch his own granddaughter be bullied, not even receive a word ofcare, and then the very next day try to marry her off so that her cousins could snatch her family property.”

This time, Ji City didn’t give Old Lady any face, speaking plainly and leaving no room for argument.

It was his previous soft-heartedness that had given these people endless fantasies.

Old Lady took deep breaths. Now it wasn’t just a matter of losing face; she felt that her most trusted eldest son had completely broken free from her control.

In this family, she had lost all say.

From now on, let alone her son, even the mother and daughter she had always looked down upon would order her around.

What kind of life did she have left to live?

“I, I don’t want to live! I don’t want to live!”

Old Lady cried out, but not a single tear fell, though her lips were purple with rage.

Ji City was afraid she would suffer some ill consequences from her anger, so he ordered someone to send Old Lady away.

Old Lady didn’t want to leave, but now it was no longer up to her.

Steward Yang heard Ji City’s words and was about to help Old Lady leave when Ji City’s hawk-like eyes turned to him.

“Steward Yang, you stay. We have other matters to discuss!”

Yang Haiwei felt a chill down his spine and nervously looked up, meeting Song Yuan’s gaze from not far away.

Had the matter from twenty-eight years ago been exposed?

He felt uncertain.

But with things having progressed this far, he could only tough it out.

Yang Haiwei released his hand from supporting Old Lady and averted his gaze from Song Yuan.

As Old Lady was helped away, the living room fell into a deathly silence.

Ji City sat in the main seat, exuding an oppressive aura.

He first took a sip from his teacup, not rushing to say anything. In those brief tens of seconds, Yang Haiwei felt an unprecedented tension.

Ji City slowly scrolled on his phone, rewatching the surveillance video Song Yuan had sent him, before leisurely speaking.

“Yang Haiwei, we’ve known each other for over thirty years. I treated you like a brother. What about you?”

Yang Haiwei said with a lack of confidence,

“How dare I be brothers with President Ji? A person of my status is merely earning a living under President Ji.”

“You probably don’t just want to earn a living; you want to be the master of my Ji family, don’t you?”

Yang Haiwei’s knees went weak, and he almost knelt down.

“President Ji is joking too much. How could I have such courage? I will be President Ji’s dog my entire life, with absolutely no disloyalty!”

Ji City didn’t want to hear his declarations of loyalty. He turned his face and asked the workers standing at the door,

“Is the artificial lake filled with water now?”

The worker replied,

“It’s filled.”

Ji City stood up from the sofa, his long legs striding out as he walked away. The others in the living room also followed his steps out the door.

Only at the doorway did Yang Haiwei see his son, Yang Huai, with his hands tied behind his back, being controlled by Ji City’s assistant and dragged forward.

Ji City led the way towards the artificial lake, and everyone’s palms were sweating, unsure of what was about to happen.

But they had a pretty good guess.

Ji City stopped at the spot where Ji Qingxue had fallen into the water and gave a signal to his assistant.

The assistant dragged Yang Huai towards the water’s edge, and everyone’s hearts leaped into their throats.

Yang Haiwei rushed forward, dropping to his knees with a thud.

“President Ji, President Ji, you can’t do this to Yang Huai! He’s your driver, diligently coming to work every day. My son and I have served the Ji family our entire lives.

Are you going to kill him?”

Ji City’s eyes were frighteningly cold.

“It’s not me who wants to kill him; it’s someone who wanted to kill my daughter. I’m just giving an eye for an eye!”

Yang Haiwei’s forehead hit the ground, making thudding sounds.

“President Ji, I didn’t! Have you misunderstood something about me? I didn’t try to harm the eldest young lady. Even if I had ten times the guts, I wouldn’t dare to frame the eldest young lady!”

Ji City gave his assistant a look, and the assistant casually pushed, sending Yang Huai into the artificial lake, splashing water.

Yang Huai was a good swimmer, but with his hands tied, he couldn’t swim up at all, struggling in the water while shouting for help.

Watching this scene, Ji City thought of how dangerous it had been for his daughter that day. All he felt was heartache.

Yang Haiwei crawled on his knees step by step to Ji City’s feet.

“President Ji, spare my life! President Ji, spare my life!”
