132: Postponed

Song Yuan glanced at Gu Shiyu and said to Ji Qingxue, "Let me ask her first."

He took the phone away from his ear and asked,

"I'm going to the Ji family tomorrow, do you want to come with me?"

Gu Shiyu nodded,

"I don't have work tomorrow, so I can go with you."

Ji Qingxue had already heard it on the other end and let out a happy 'Yay'.

If Song Yuan hadn't known his wife's sexual orientation was normal, he would have suspected Ji Qingxue had improper thoughts about his wife; the friendship between girls was truly perplexing.

Gu Shiyu locked her work laptop and tablet, then linked arms with Song Yuan, and the two walked out together, entering the elevator under the watchful eyes of the employees.

They didn't use a driver today; Gu Shiyu found it inconvenient to have a driver present when they wanted to talk, so she often gave him time off.

Song Yuan drove the car towards their marital home.

In the car, Gu Shiyu called the housekeeper at home, telling her they were on their way back and to prepare dinner.

The car drove back to Peninsula Villa, passing by the Ji family's house at number thirteen. Song Yuan couldn't help but glance at the entrance and coincidentally saw the Ji family's butler, Yang, directing workers who were tending to the lawn at the gate.

Song Yuan was momentarily stunned, nearly driving the car into a tree.

Gu Shiyu reacted quickly, reaching over to help him turn the steering wheel. Song Yuan came back to his senses, and both of them were startled.

Gu Shiyu looked back at the Ji family's house they had just passed.

"Song Yuan, what did you see?"

Song Yuan parked the car by the roadside and rubbed the back of his neck.

"Shiyu, I saw the Ji family's butler. Do you think it's possible that the photo of President Ji when he was young was Photoshopped? Did he originally have a mole at the corner of his eyebrow?"

When Gu Shiyu was at the Ji family's house that day, she had also suspected the person named Yang, but according to Ji City's description, the timing didn't match.

When Ji City and that butler met, he no longer had that black mole, and Song Yuan was abducted after Ji City met him, so this point didn't align.

Gu Shiyu was silent for a moment before saying,

"If you're really suspicious, we can hire a private detective to investigate his background. However, that would offend President Ji, and your company just received his investment and might continue to cooperate in the future, so I don't recommend doing that.

How about I first ask a friend in the public security system if he has any criminal record?"

Song Yuan leaned his head against the back of the seat and took a long time to recover.

"Alright."

Gu Shiyu added,

"But I think the possibility is relatively small. President Ji is not someone who employs people carelessly. If that butler named Yang had committed any crimes in the past, President Ji wouldn't keep him at home.

Anyway, I'll ask a friend to put your mind at ease!"

Song Yuan hummed.

"Thank you, wife."

He restarted the car and drove back to Nineteen Courtyard ahead.

At their marital home, Gu Shiyu had arranged for two housekeepers to move in first to manage things. Wang Ma and Wu Ma were long-term employees Gu Shiyu had used for four years, and Gu Shiyu trusted them.

When Song Yuan and Gu Shiyu entered, they smelled the aroma of food.

Wang Ma's cooking was always the best. For dinner, she made Song Yuan's favorite braised pork ribs, along with a few stir-fried seasonal vegetables and a light soup.

The two didn't rush to eat when they entered. They first walked around the house. The house was spotless, but a bit empty.

There were still many things that needed to be added.

The furniture in the master bedroom, however, was fully purchased, and the actual items were almost identical to the pictures they had seen on the tablet earlier.

After dinner, the two discussed staying here for the night instead of returning to their old small house. Also, since they were going to the Ji family tomorrow and were in the same villa complex, they could just stroll over after dinner, saving travel time and allowing them to sleep a little longer.

Coincidentally, Song Yuan had placed the gift he intended to give to Madam Ji in the car.

The villa area was exceptionally quiet, and the two slept soundly that night, but Song Yuan had a fixed biological clock and still woke up at 7:30 in the morning.

Gu Shiyu was sleeping in his arms, her warm breath on his chest, making his heart tickle.

Normally, he would have woken her up for some intimate interaction.

Remembering she was on her period, Song Yuan gave up the idea.

Song Yuan gently withdrew his hand, threw back the covers, and got out of bed.

After his morning run in the park near the villa, he went to the car to retrieve several calligraphy pieces from his maternal grandfather. When he returned, Gu Shiyu had just woken up, holding and drinking from the half-full glass of water on the nightstand.

Song Yuan reminded her,

"Don't drink cold things during your period. I'll go get you hot water."

Gu Shiyu had already chugged half a glass of water.

"No need, I'm not on my period. I was just really thirsty."

Song Yuan looked at her thoughtfully.

"It's late this month?"

Gu Shiyu said indifferently,

"It's usually not regular, so there's no 'late' or 'not late'. Sometimes it used to come only once every forty-something days."

Song Yuan acknowledged her words, a hint of disappointment flashing in his eyes. He had thought that perhaps she was pregnant since she hadn't gotten her period, but hearing her say that, it seemed not.

After breakfast, the two strolled towards number thirteen.

Perhaps Madam Ji had instructed her staff in advance that she would have guests today. As soon as they reached the Ji family's entrance, the butler came out to greet them,

"Mr. Song, Mrs. Song, Old Madam is waiting for you in the front hall. Please follow me."

Song Yuan stared at the butler for a few seconds. The butler scratched his head,

"Mr. Song? Please follow me!"

Song Yuan withdrew his gaze and followed him towards the building where Madam Ji lived.

Madam Ji had been waiting in the living room for a long time. Hearing the commotion outside, she came out to greet them.

"Song Yuan, Mrs. Song, welcome to our home."

Old Lady had prepared excellent tea. She instructed the maid to pour tea for the guests.

Song Yuan noticed that this Old Lady truly loved calligraphy. The living room was adorned with many famous calligraphies and paintings, exuding a strong scholarly atmosphere.

Song Yuan and Gu Shiyu sat for a while, then Old Lady invited them to the study.

The study was even more filled with the scent of books and ink.

On the desk, there was even an inkstone and special paper for writing, and next to them were a few pages of calligraphy that Old Lady had practiced.

For an elder of this age, having such an elegant hobby was truly rare. To be able to raise a son like Ji City, Old Lady must have had extraordinary qualities.

Song Yuan held Old Lady in high regard. He took out the gift he had brought.

"Old Madam, these are my maternal grandfather's calligraphy pieces. If I hadn't known later that you were his fan, I would have given them to you much sooner."

Old Lady was so touched she almost shed tears. She carefully opened the packaging to look at the contents of the calligraphy, her fingers tracing the strokes, appreciating each one.

"This is indeed Mr. Tao's handwriting, Song Yuan. These three pieces, are you willing to give them away?"

Song Yuan nodded, pointing to the calligraphy pieces and saying,

"For them to be collected by my maternal grandfather's fan is the best place for them. If my maternal grandfather were here, I believe he wouldn't object either."

Old Lady excitedly accepted them.

"I won't take your gift for nothing. How about you see if there's anything you like here, and I'll exchange it with you?"
