155: Sooner or later you will find it
The car quickly drove back to her parents' residential complex.
Gu Shiyu and Tao Yulian helped each other walk towards the building, while Song Yuan and Song Heng were responsible for moving the belongings.
The first thing Tao Yulian did upon entering the house was to take out the package she had hidden for twenty-eight years; Song Heng sat silently on a chair.
Song Yuan and Shiyu stood by, watching quietly, and no one spoke at this moment.
Tao Yulian opened the package, and inside lay a neatly folded small baby blanket and a small piece of clothing.
Tao Yulian, with red eyes, said,
“When you came to our home, you were wearing this small piece of clothing and wrapped in this small baby blanket. When your aunt carried you back, you were warmly bundled, revealing a fair little face.
Your mother liked you at first sight and felt a mother-son connection with you. Your aunt lied to us, saying your birth parents were no longer alive, and only an elderly grandmother remained who was unable to raise a child and was looking for adoption.
Your mother was truly both surprised and delighted at the time!”
Tao Yulian wiped away a tear and continued,
“Your mother felt this baby blanket was special, so she kept it. There’s a character on the corner of the blanket; take a look.”
Song Yuan picked up the blanket to examine it and found the character 'Humility' (Qian) in the corner.
What did Qian mean?
Song Yuan couldn't help but wonder if it was the name his birth parents had given him.
“Mom, is there anything else?”
Tao Yulian took out the small piece of clothing, and inside it was wrapped a small, delicate golden lock.
Song Yuan picked up the small golden lock and examined it carefully; it also had the character 'Humility' (Qian) engraved on it, confirming it was indeed the name his parents had given him.
Besides that, there was no other information.
Song Yuan held the small golden lock in his hand, pondering that a custom-engraved piece of jewelry like this must have been made by a goldsmith.
He knew he was born in Beijing, so presumably his parents were also from Beijing, which significantly narrowed down the scope.
He could take this golden lock and ask goldsmiths in Beijing; perhaps there would be a clue.
Shiyu squeezed Song Yuan's hand to comfort him,
“You’ll find them eventually. I’ll help you.”
Song Yuan carefully put the items away. At this moment, he was incredibly grateful that his parents supported and understood him, allowing him to search for his birth family.
That day, the couple stayed at his parents' house.
Shiyu called her assistant and asked her to check all the goldsmith shops in Beijing.
In about half an hour, Ms. Xu sent a table with addresses, contact information, owner names, and so on.
Song Yuan felt a bit restless after receiving the table. In the afternoon, Shiyu was going to take a nap, so he told his parents he was driving out.
He took the golden lock and first went to a few goldsmith shops not far from home. After asking each one, the owners all said they had no impression and didn't remember making this golden lock with the character 'Humility' (Qian) for anyone.
Song Yuan made a note on the table. There were still over fifty goldsmith shops left, and he would visit them one by one, hoping for an answer.
Song Yuan drove the car to a supermarket near his home, bought some fresh vegetables, fruits, Yu Dan, and milk. Upon returning to the complex, he sat in the car to calm down for a while.
He felt like smoking again. He took out a cigarette but then remembered that his wife had just been confirmed pregnant, and he had promised to quit smoking so his wife and child wouldn't inhale second-hand smoke.
He put the cigarette back.
A moment later, he carried the things he had bought upstairs.
Upstairs, Shiyu had just woken up. Tao Yulian and Song Heng, with nothing to do, were peeling walnuts in the living room, and had already peeled half a plate.
The elderly couple had heard somewhere that pregnant women who eat walnuts would have smarter babies. They planned to peel all the walnuts in the bag and let their daughter-in-law take them.
Shiyu originally wanted to say that they could just buy shelled walnuts, but seeing how thoughtful the elderly couple were, she held her tongue.
Song Yuan entered, placed the purchased items on the floor, and changed his shoes.
Tao Yulian saw the grapes in the bag, dropped the walnuts in her hand, and went to the kitchen to wash the grapes. She placed the washed grapes directly in front of Shiyu.
“Come, Shiyu, eat more grapes; your baby will have big eyes!”
Song Yuan laughed,
“Where did you hear such nonsense? If she ate raisins, would their eyes become tiny like beans?”
Song Heng scolded him,
“Never mind him. Eating seasonal fruits is definitely good. Shiyu, tell your father if you want to eat anything else, and I’ll buy it for you!”
Shiyu had been abandoned by her parents since she was young and hadn't experienced much parental love for many years. This day spent at Song Yuan's home made her feel especially fulfilled.
The family atmosphere at Song Yuan's house was what she had envied as a child. She never dreamed that by casually picking a man and having a quick marriage, she would experience the warmth of a family.
Shiyu picked up a grape and put it in her mouth,
“I want to eat grapes and have two big-eyed babies!”
Song Yuan also sat down at the table,
“Why do you need to eat grapes? Your eyes are so big, and my eyes aren't small either. How could we have babies with small eyes?”
Shiyu smiled and glanced at him, focusing on eating without speaking.
Tao Yulian pondered Shiyu's words for a long time before finally realizing,
“Two babies?”
Song Yuan's eyebrows twitched slightly,
“Dad, Mom, I forgot to tell you, Shiyu is pregnant with fraternal twins. It could be two boys, two girls, or even a boy and a girl.”
After he finished speaking, Tao Yulian and Song Heng were both stunned.
Tao Yulian was so happy she was incoherent,
“Two, two? Quick, let me see that ultrasound scan again! I don't think I saw it clearly this morning at the hospital!”
Song Yuan found the ultrasound scan again and handed it to her.
Tao Yulian happily patted Song Heng beside her,
“Old man, it really is twins! Shiyu is pregnant with twins! Our family will have two children! Then you can hold one, and I can hold one. Let’s see if Old Liu downstairs still boasts about her newborn grandson to me—she’ll be so envious!
And Old Li, who plays chess with you, he’ll be jealous again when he finds out we’re having grandchildren before him!”
Song Heng rubbed the back of his head. He was clumsy with words and not good at expressing himself; his excitement was inexpressible.
“I, I’ll go stew the fish first. Shiyu is carrying two children, so she needs to nourish herself well. You’re too thin!”
Shiyu had never gained weight in her twenty-six years. She was a very disciplined person, usually very careful about body management, controlling the calories in every meal.
Every time Song Yuan held her, he felt her bones poke him. Although she had flesh where she should, overall she was too bony.
He had encouraged her many times to eat more and gain some weight, but Shiyu always refused.
Now, Song Yuan finally found a reason to make her eat more.
“You heard that, right? You need to nourish yourself well. The two babies will absorb some of your nutrients. If you continue with your usual diet control, you’ll become malnourished.”
Shiyu looked distressed,
“I won’t turn into a big fatty after giving birth, will I?”
