66: Chapter 66 I'll Be Your Driver

“How could it not be me?” Qiao Xi put her phone in her pocket. “I guessed you were drinking when I heard your voice on the phone. Lin Xueyao has been safely sent home, so I’ll be your driver!”

“How did you happen to get my order?”

Qiao Xi said directly, “I didn’t get it. The designated driver who took your order didn’t seem very reliable, so I sent him away.”

“Are you very reliable?”

Qiao Xi patted her chest and promised, “Today marks exactly one month since I got my driver’s license, so of course I’m reliable.”

Song Yuan was speechless. What’s the difference between someone who just got their license a month ago and a road killer?

Qiao Xi reached out and took his car keys directly.

“Get in the car. I didn’t come specifically to be your driver today. I have something important to talk to you about on the way.”

Song Yuan got in the car, but he didn’t dare to sit in the passenger seat. He remained skeptical of this woman’s driving skills.

“What do you want to talk to me about?”

As soon as he finished speaking, Qiao Xi stomped on the accelerator, and the car sped out of the parking lot.

Song Yuan quickly grabbed the armrest to prevent his head from hitting the back of the front seat. He now suspected this woman was here to get revenge for Lin Xueyao.

“Stop the car!”

Qiao Xi ignored him but slowed down.

“Song Yuan, if Lin Xueyao comes to find you again, don’t give her any response. She’s currently in deep pain from her breakup. As you saw today, she’s been binge drinking for several days straight. She just got out of the hospital for gastroenteritis, and I don’t think it’ll be long before her next hospitalization.”

Song Yuan sat in the back seat, but he didn’t let his guard down. He stared at the road ahead, fearing that this woman would take him down with her.

“I’ve never given her any response.”

Qiao Xi paused, then looked into the rearview mirror and asked him, “Then is there still a chance for you and her to get back together?”

“No chance.”

Qiao Xi smiled, so happily that her shoulders swayed a bit, and she looked a little smug.

“Can you help me fix the water pipe at home? I found it was leaking when I got off work tonight, and I can’t fix it myself.”

Song Yuan smiled.

“It’s too late now. It’s not appropriate for a married man like me to go to your house. Call the property management.”

“I called them. Property management said themaster was off work.”

“Then I’ll recommend amaster to you. He can take the order.”

Song Yuan immediately sent the contact information of a plumber from his phone book to her WeChat.

Qiao Xi’s path was blocked.

However, she endured it. She wouldn’t get too invested in a man who was easy to pursue.

“On your birthday, I made you a cake. It’s my birthday tomorrow, so you owe me one. It’s only fair, you won’t refuse, right?”

“I should return one.”

Qiao Xi pursed her lips.

“You pick one and give it to me when you get off work tomorrow.”

Song Yuan opened WeChat again and transferred five hundred yuan to her.

“My taste isn’t good. You choose it yourself. Cake money plus designated driver fee. Thank you for today.”

Qiao Xi gritted her teeth in anger.

“Song Yuan, you…”

The car had already driven into Song Yuan’s residential complex’s underground garage. She parked the car haphazardly in the middle of the road.

“You back it up yourself!”

Qiao Xi was a bit annoyed. Why was this man so unyielding? Was she lacking five hundred yuan?

She walked into the elevator herself, leaving the drunk man behind.

The moment the elevator doors closed, she glared angrily at the man in the distance, secretly vowing that there was no wall that couldn’t be dug down, only a hoe that couldn’t be wielded well.

Song Yuan smoked a cigarette in the car, sobered up a bit, then backed the car into a parking space.

Upstairs, Gu Shiyu was troubled by the small walk-in closet. There simply wasn’t enough space for too many things.

Her clothes were divided by season, and each season had hundreds of outfits, not to mention shoes, scarves, bags, etc. She needed a larger walk-in closet.

She could only bring a small portion of her clothes here, which was very inconvenient.

Song Yuan pushed the door open, carrying a strong smell of alcohol.

Gu Shiyu thought he was worried about Tao Yulian’s kidney source and had gone to drink alone.

“Song Yuan, how much did you drink?”

Song Yuan changed his shoes and sat on the sofa, relaxing. He pulled her onto his lap.

“Shiyu, it seems we haven’t taken our wedding photos yet. When we both have time off during the National Day holiday, let’s go take them. How about we take them at the beach?”

Gu Shiyu saw him so drunk and still thinking about wedding photos, feeling both heartache and amusement.

“Let’s discuss it when you’re sober. If we agree now, will you even remember tomorrow?”

Song Yuan was drunk, but not to the point of blacking out.

“Do I look that drunk?”

“Who knows? I’ve never seen you drunk before.”

Song Yuan’s lips curved into a smile.

“How can you say you haven’t? We… that time at the hotel, I drank more than today, and I still remembered your mischief the next day. This much alcohol today is nothing.”

Gu Shiyu was speechless.

“When can we stop bringing that up?”

Song Yuan readily agreed.

“Okay, we won’t bring it up.”

He pulled her a little closer, wanting to kiss her, but before their lips could meet, Gu Shiyu put a hand over his mouth.

“Go wash up. You stink. Sleep in the guest bedroom tonight. I hate the smell of alcohol!”

Song Yuan reluctantly agreed.

“Okay, I won’t drink next time. Shiyu, can you pour me a cup of tea?”

Gu Shiyu got off his lap and went to the kitchen to make tea.

She had grown up being served by maids and had never done such things for anyone.

Gu Shiyu casually grabbed some tea leaves and put them into the pot, pouring in boiling water to brew. The strong cup of tea was then handed to Song Yuan.

Song Yuan just smelled it and had a premonition that this tea would be bitter.

“Shiyu, it’s so strong.”

“Stronger is better, to sober you up.”

Song Yuan chuckled. She didn’t like the smell of alcohol; he would remember that.

Gu Shiyu quickly tidied up the guest bedroom.

“Don’t worry too much about Mom… I went to see her after work today, and she’s in good condition. She can temporarily maintain her life through dialysis.”

Song Yuan had also come to terms with it these past few days. Whether they could find a kidney source depended on fate.

With this kind of illness, it wasn’t something that could be changed by human will.

That day, what confused him more was the issue of his and his parents’ blood types.

He had confirmed with the hospital a second time; the samples were not mixed up. Based on this, it was true that he was not their biological son.

But Tao Yulian and Song Heng had been nothing but good to him. He had grown up being pampered by his parents.

“I know, Shiyu, thank you.”

Song Yuan couldn’t help but think of Lin Xueyao. If Xiao Nianchen hadn’t returned to the country, and he and Lin Xueyao had successfully married, with his mother now sick and him unemployed, Lin Xueyao would probably have wanted to run away and buy a standing-room-only ticket. Their home would have been in chaos, and she certainly wouldn’t have comforted him so carefully.

At his most vulnerable moment, Gu Shiyu provided him with appropriate emotional support.

Song Yuan wanted to hug her, but thinking of the alcohol smell on him, he dismissed the idea.

“I’m going to take a bath.”

Song Yuan went to the bathroom to run water. Hot water flowed into the bathtub. He took off his clothes and threw them into the laundry hamper, then went to the sink to shave.

The bathtub was full of water, steaming. He took off his boxers and stepped in. Just as his body submerged, Gu Shiyu pushed the door open.

“I was afraid you’d fall asleep in the water, so I came to watch you!”
