2: Chapter 2: What kind of commander am I? (Annoyed)
After spending some time figuring out all the functions, Li Ming finally began his next move.
First, get the power plant built, then the barracks.
Somewhat clumsily, he searched for a relatively flat piece of open ground before letting the construction core land on its own.
The quantum construction magic from the game seemed particularly spectacular in reality, but Li Ming was strictly forbidden by the internal system from entering the construction area, as it would lead to quite terrifying consequences.
So, in the end, Li Ming chose to wait quietly inside the core ship until construction was complete.
Several hours later, a hungry Li Ming followed the guidance to the dining area to get food. Since there was no ready-made food, Li Ming could only grab something from the storage that looked like chocolate to tide him over... It was later confirmed to be an energy bar, and the taste was passable.
Look on the bright side, at least I'm not starving, Li Ming thought to himself.
The power plant and barracks were finally completed, unlocking the construction option for the ore mining station.
In reality, unlike in the third-generation game where a gold refinery directly provided war funds, or the second-generation where ore pillars refreshed on the map, the manual stated that engineers needed to conduct surveys first, then construct the ore pillars.
While stone and wood could also be collected, the conversion efficiency was too low and might not even meet demand.
The safest method was still to find mineral deposits.
Therefore, the primary goal was to produce troops from the barracks.
Although he could remotely control the barracks' production line, curiosity drove Li Ming to go to the so-called 'Divine Engine Barracks'.
This barracks had removed the artillery section, and its production efficiency wasn't as ridiculously high as in the game, but it was sufficient.
There was only one equipment production line and one bio-pod, with extra space elsewhere. It looked like the production queue could be expanded. That was fine too; it meant one barracks could handle what multiple barracks did in the game, saving space.
Li Ming studied the production list. No Dragonfire Troops, only basic tech units, and they could only use pre-war rifles...
Well, it's better than nothing, right?
But right now, the priority should be producing engineering drones...
Chu?
Huh?

He looked at the other infantry units again...
Allied Big Chus, Heavy Big Chus...
What the hell, what kind of Commander am I, anyway?! (Annoyed)
Why Yellow Chickens?! Aren't I a red alert Commander?!
With great, even immense confusion, Li Ming still chose to produce engineering drones to get to work.
After all, a man's gotta eat... Given the current situation, you use what you have. Can you really afford to be picky?
Twelve engineering drones, each taking five minutes. The production speed was actually quite fast.
Looking at the twelve... Yellow Chickens standing before him, each wearing a helmet and carrying a briefcase, Li Ming felt an indescribable sense of dissonance.
No other reason, it was just absurd.
Sighing, Li Ming asked them, 'What can you do?'
'Chuchuchu! Chuchuchuchu!'
'Uh...' Li Ming suddenly realized he could actually understand Yellow Chicken language. When did he get this buff?
According to the Yellow Chicken squad leader, their job scope differed significantly from the game, being closer to real-life engineers. The difference was they were all-rounders; in other words, they could do anything, and were relatively quite proficient at it all.
Well, isn't that great? Hearing this, Li Ming was overjoyed and immediately tasked the engineering team to start work, surveying the area near the base for any important resources.
The twelve Yellow Chicken masters immediately got to work, but they still requested a batch of more professional equipment from Li Ming.
Li Ming looked at the war funds in his hand, gritted his teeth, and had the barracks produce it.
Might as well produce some necessary things while funds are still plentiful.
The engineering drones began a day-long ore prospecting mission.
Yellow Chickens were truly amazing creatures. They ate little, worked a lot, and could even work day and night without rest. The catch was they'd crash and huddle up for a while after finishing.
After locating the ore, the Yellow Chickens set up the extractor and then promptly crashed.
By the way, the ore pillar was originally just a prospector. Somehow, the Yellow Chickens managed to modify the prospector into an ore pillar. One can only say the power of 'I reckon so' is truly terrifying...
After that, the ore pillar was connected to the power supply and began operating.
What was being mined was a coal deposit. According to the Yellow Chicken masters, this coal seam was rich, part of a large vein.
The ore trucks were already prepared. Seeing the ore being mined, they used a super vacuum to suck it into their large containers.
The base's operations were finally starting normally, Li Ming thought.
Next came the complex and tedious part: climbing the building tech tree step by step, constructing the High-Tech structure, then gradually unlocking the tech tree, slowly developing his strength. He didn't even know if this world was his original one. If it was, he'd probably be discovered very soon. If he got caught by the Eagle...
If not, then there was a necessity to explore outward, but there would be many unknown factors, so he had to make thorough preparations.
Thinking this, Li Ming returned to the combat ship and picked up his tablet...
Maybe one day I could even be a teacher? With this thought, Li Ming opened the production interface and added defense towers and infantry Chus to the production queue.
No railguns, only cannons and machine guns. They'd have to make do.
For infantry, only basic old-style rifles were available. Li Ming chose the relatively classic Lee-Enfield rifle.
Compared to the five minutes needed to produce one engineering drone, an infantry Chu only took one minute, with most of that time spent on the weapon equipment...
But...
Li Ming looked at the Yellow Chickens, half a person's height, wearing helmets and draped with bullet belts, and fell into deep thought.
Th-this isn't right, is it? Because according to the tablet's introduction, these Yellow Chickens could also manually operate an MG42...
Terrifying.
But at least now he had some armed forces.
Immediately after, a sentence popped up on the tablet, making Li Ming's scalp tingle.
'Detected that the Commander's physical condition is relatively weak. A fitness improvement plan for the Commander has been formulated and will be supervised and executed by infantry units.'
'Hey! Not cool, man! It hasn't even been that long and you're hitting me with this?! At least give me some prep time...'
Watching the half-height Yellow Chicken brothers surround him, Li Ming could even sense their keen interest.
So they do have their own emotions... Li Ming thought, but the next second he was dragged away.
His tablet and clothes were thrown to a dry spot. Li Ming was forced to put on training fatigues, preparing to start medium-to-high intensity warm-ups...
'Damn it! What the hell kind of Commander am I, anyway?! (Great Sorrow)'
From this point on, Li Ming's miserable yet fulfilling life officially began. ()
