208: Chapter 208 Tanks and Mediation Forces

Arriving on the scene was an M10 "Booker."

A light tank that only saw small-scale deployment in the real world had now appeared here.

"Good God, he's definitely a goner now!" a soldier sighed.

"Stay calm!" the vice-captain replied. "Watch the windows; the turret needs reaction time too!"

The roar of tank engines was quite loud; two engine sounds overlapped, sounding particularly pleasant.

Wait, two?

Boom!

A tank fired, but it wasn't the Booker that opened fire.

A beam of light hit the upper glacis of the Booker and then punched through the rear. Black smoke billowed from the Booker's engine, and it stopped moving.

"What the hell is that?!" a soldier exclaimed.

The vice-captain risked his life to peek out, then shouted, "My God! It's a main battle tank from the Mediation Force!"

The main battle tank slightly rotated its turret, its 120mm main gun pointing at them like a dark abyss.

"Get down—!"

Boom!

A steel needle sabot shot through several walls and flew far away. Fortunately, no one was hit directly, though the building looked like it was about to collapse.

"Damn it, prepare to evacuate! Golden Island! How did the enemy tank get here?!"

"McCas, Ocalon, hold on..."

"Damn it, to hell with the command! Throw smoke grenades! We're retreating!"

Two smoke grenades were tossed out, and the remnants of the two squads ran into the distance along a street littered with abandoned cars.

The all-white Leopard 2 main battle tank sprayed the smoke with its coaxial MG3, stopped on the main road, and aimed its barrel at the building on the other side.

The Commander's hatch opened, and a blonde woman in a black bodysuit poked her head out. She casually brushed back her long hair and looked toward the building.

She pulled out a megaphone.

"Coming out on your own? Or should I invite you out?"

A sneaky-looking fellow poked his head out. He looked like an Easterner?

"Japanese?"

"To hell with 'Japanese'! I'm a genuine Huaxia person!"

Li Ming crawled out and looked at the white tank. It had UN markings on the side, an Iron Cross on the rear side of the turret, slat armor, and protective enhancement kits, but the barrel wasn't as long as the top-spec Leopard 2 in his memory.

Leopard 2A4M.

"Do you want to die here?" she asked. "If you don't want to die, get on."

"...Alright, alright, coming."

Li Ming ran downstairs and jumped onto the tank via the slat armor.

"You sit outside," she said. "On the turret."

"Fine."

The tank started up again. Li Ming wobbled with the center of gravity as he watched the tank turn and drive deeper into the city.

"What if pursuers come?"

"Fight."

"Just the two of us?" Li Ming said, feeling a headache coming on.

"Are you scared?"

"..."

"I'll drop you off somewhere in a bit, and you'll get off by yourself. Understand?"

She didn't wait for his reply, instead retracting into the tank and closing the hatch.

"Fine." Li Ming shrugged, while frantically complaining in his mind, "Why is it this ancestor? Logic?"

"Is there something wrong with her?" Logic seemed to be stifling a laugh.

"How did you bring a War Thunder Girl here? Are you kidding me?"

"I don't know. Go talk to my main body about it."

"...I'm truly speechless."

Li Ming snapped back to reality and looked back. Surprisingly, no one was actually pursuing them?

How strange. Perhaps the Mediation Force could still pose a threat to them within the city.

As the tank swayed, an unknown amount of time passed before it stopped in front of a camp.

On barricades made of iron plates found everywhere in the city and sandbags temporarily fashioned from various packaging, soldiers wearing blue helmets were standing guard.

"Get off," her voice came from inside the tank, her tone flat.

"Okay..."

Li Ming jumped off the tank and walked toward the camp with his G36C slung over his shoulder.

The guards didn't stop him, likely because he was brought in by one of their own Leopard 2s.

Of course, even so, he still drew quite a lot of attention.

A rare Easterner suddenly appearing here, fully armed—combined with the sudden chaos outside just now, maybe this guy really did something?

However, with his sour expression, no one dared to ask.

Because of this, Li Ming wandered around the camp without hindrance. The camp was mainly used to house civilians who were afraid to leave the city for the Donkey Party's controlled areas during the war. It was evident that the local supply situation had reached a dire state.

The guarding soldiers in particular looked somewhat listless; in comparison, the civilians seemed slightly better off, though only marginally.

But this was not a good sign.

So she took me for a civilian with some combat capability? Li Ming felt helpless.

With the friend-or-foe situation unclear, he certainly couldn't just stay in this camp. Besides, he was carrying weapons; he might be mistaken for some unknown militant.

Thinking this, Li Ming left the camp through the main gate, scavenging for scrap along the city corners while gathering information. Most importantly, he needed to get a local map.

Walking along the street, this was roughly the central area of Houston. Li Ming rummaged through the wreckage of urban combat for usable spare parts and residual fuel in vehicle tanks.

The most important thing was to understand the current situation.

But this proved difficult. In an information-based society, few people used newspapers or other paper records. Therefore, Li Ming chose to find a relatively safe signal tower to see if he could connect to a server that was still running.

Ask directly? Li Ming admitted he didn't have the guts. He claimed to be the best at courting death, but in reality, Li Ming was quite timid.

The city was covered in traces of firefights, both new and old.

Logic detected several hidden sentries of the Mediation Force. Li Ming chose to avoid them and slipped into the target building.

Since the elevators were out of service, Li Ming was forced to climb dozens of floors before reaching the half-collapsed rooftop.

Pulling out a battery from an abandoned tank, Li Ming looked around and found no one.

"Logic, is this signal tower still usable?"

"Let me check, wait a moment..." Logic was silent for a while. "Fortunately, the main structure isn't damaged. Commander, follow my instructions. I need to modify this tower's transceiver system."

"Understood."

Putting on insulated gloves, Li Ming began adjusting the signal tower according to Logic's directions.

"By the way, the Commander seems to be in a much better state this time."

"Logic, this is what it means to be human," Li Ming smiled. "The The Governing Body couldn't possibly not know this, right?"

"I certainly know that, but what I want to say is that your progress in this direction is faster than I expected... although the situations you encounter are also beyond my expectations."
