51: Professional zombie guide
Norton put down the book in his hand and asked curiously, "What are you looking for me for?"
Jian Wuxie didn't answer but asked instead, "What kind of profession is an Alchemist?"
Upon hearing this question, Norton became excited and said, "Alchemy is the greatest invention; it is science, do you understand?"
"Science?" Quan Wudi scratched his head in confusion.
"That's right. People say magic is great, but I believe that what will always illuminate the world is science, not magic! If you have the chance, buy me a drink at the tavern, and I'll have a good chat with you about the greatness of science," Norton said excitedly.
Xiao Hongyuan smiled and said, "We are going to the Dark Thunder Ruins. G.S.D said you might have a quest for us."
Norton became even more excited after hearing this and quickly said, "That's great! In that case, collect some Memories of Destruction from those Zombies for me. I will give you some Colorless and Colored Crystals in return."
"Memories of Destruction?" Xiao Hongyuan asked in confusion.
Norton took out a gray bead from his bosom and said, "It's this. For some reason, the memories of those Zombies when they were alive condense into these beads. They have great research value. Unfortunately, I don't have many right now. If possible, please collect some for me."
Xiao Hongyuan took the bead, looked at it, and said, "Alright, no problem."
Lin Chuan also accepted the quest along with his two disciples. Suddenly thinking of something, he gave a mischievous grin and said to Li Siyuan, "Er Gou, go find a wooden sign for me."
Although Er Gou was curious, he didn't ask anything. He turned to leave, wondering where he could find a wooden sign.
Norton spoke up very helpfully, "You can go look for the young girl, Karina. She runs a General Store; she should have wood for sale there."
Li Siyuan expressed his thanks and hurriedly walked in the direction Norton pointed.
While Lin Chuan chatted with Jian Wuxie's group of four for a while, Li Siyuan ran back carrying a large wooden sign and said, "Revered Master, I bought it."
Lin Chuan smilingly took the wooden sign, nodded with satisfaction, and said, "Not bad, quite suitable."
Xiao Hongyuan's group of four and Lin Chuan's group of three arrived at the entrance of the Dungeon Instance. Jian Wuxie, seeing Lin Chuan writing and drawing the whole way, finally couldn't help but ask, "Brother Lin, what are you writing on that wooden sign?"
A mercenary smile appeared on Lin Chuan's face as he handed the wooden sign to Li Siyuan and said, "Hold it up."
Li Siyuan was obedient and didn't ask why; he simply took the wooden sign and held it high.
Jian Wuxie looked up curiously and saw written on the wooden sign: "Professional Zombie Carry, 10,000 gold coins per person, Materials belong to me. Join the team if you want to go, fair and honest. +++++++"
Jian Wuxie curled his lip disdainfully and said, "Just for this? You're even charging money?"
Lin Chuan only smiled slightly and said, "You can go in and try first. Also, I should mention that my team currently has only one spot left."
With a look on his face that suggested anyone who went would be a fool, Jian Wuxie said, "Senior Sister, let's head in quickly."
Xiao Hongyuan nodded and immediately led the team into the Dungeon Instance.
Seeing the four of them enter, Lin Chuan laughed and said, "Er Gou, put the sign away for now. I'll take you two through it once as well."
After saying that, Lin Chuan also led the two of them inside.
Xiao Hongyuan's group of four entered the Dungeon Instance, looking at the gloomy forest before them, which was pitch black in the distance.
"Damn, is it night? Why is it so dark?" Quan Wudi complained.
"Be careful. Since that Boss Lin could say something like charging for a carry through the dungeon, this place must not be simple."
Jian Wuxie disdainfully rested his Greatsword on his shoulder and said, "What's there to fear? I have a +12 weapon. What kind of monster can withstand that?"
Xiao Hongyuan thought about it and agreed. After all, at this stage, a +12 weapon was very powerful, and fighting any monster wouldn't be too difficult, so she felt slightly more at ease.
The four of them walked into the dark forest. As soon as they entered, they saw three Minotaur Giant Beasts standing there, watching them like tigers watching their prey.
"Haha, this place really is something. Boss-level creatures like Minotaur Giant Beasts are just gatekeepers here," Jian Wuxie laughed.
Having said that, he immediately launched a Three-Stage Slash and followed up with a newly learned Cross Slash.
The Greatsword drew a cross in mid-air, and the blood-red Sword Qi slashed directly toward the three Minotaur Giant Beasts.
Two of the Minotaur Giant Beasts couldn't dodge in time and were hit by the Sword Qi of the Cross Slash. Blood immediately gushed from them, and the massive wounds made them howl loudly.
"Impressive!" Jian Wuxie was very satisfied with the effect of his new skill.
A Fei also immediately stepped forward, his Short Sword sweeping upward fiercely, and a massive flaming Sword Qi lunged forward.
In an instant, the flames pounced onto the three Minotaur Giant Beasts, and the smell of burning spread.
Large areas of burns appeared on the bodies of the three Minotaur Giant Beasts.
Quan Wudi looked at the two's new skills with envy. Thinking back to his own Nen Qi Wave, which was only the size of a quail egg, he couldn't help but be moved to tears.
He had secretly asked Pung Jin about it. In Pung Jin's words, his sensitivity to Nen Qi was very weak; Pung Jin had never seen such a Fighter before and suggested that he basically bid farewell to the path of Nen Qi in the future.
Without even needing Xiao Hongyuan or Quan Wudi to act, the three Minotaur Giant Beasts vanished into white light under A Fei's magnificent Moonlight Slash, leaving only a bag of gold coins on the ground.
The four continued forward and saw many rotting corpses appearing on the ground. Although there was still flesh remaining on those corpses, most of the white bones were already exposed.
All four were Cultivators and were used to slaughter, so they didn't feel any discomfort facing this situation.
"It seems a massacre occurred here; there are so many corpses," Quan Wudi said.
"So, what killed them?" Xiao Hongyuan wondered, then continued, "Be careful."
The four ignored the corpses on the ground and intended to walk through them and continue forward.
While Jian Wuxie cautiously scanned the surroundings, he slowly led the way in front.
Suddenly, Jian Wuxie felt his ankle being grabbed by something. Startled, he hurriedly looked down and saw the hand of a corpse curled around his ankle.
He cursed his bad luck under his breath and crouched down, wanting to move the corpse's hand away.
"Watch out!" Xiao Hongyuan's shout came from behind. He quickly looked back and saw that all three of them were looking at him with looks of horror. He laughed and said, "It's fine, the corpse's hand just happened to hook onto me. It's nothing."
After he finished speaking, he saw that the three were still staring intently at him and signaling for him to look behind him with their eyes. He looked back in confusion and saw a highly decomposed large face face-to-face with him, so close they almost kissed.
"Holy crap! What is that!" Jian Wuxie was scared out of his wits, and he fell backward onto his butt.
The corpse that had originally hooked his ankle with its hand was now slowly standing up. It opened its large mouth, where the gums were visible, and lunged directly at him.
"Holy shit!" Jian Wuxie blurted out in shock and quickly scrambled to the side.
At this moment, all the corpses around the four of them eerily crawled up from the ground, directly surrounding them.
