73: Tower of Delusion
Following G.S.D's words, the four finally found a place called the Canyon of the Dead on the West Coast.
Just as they entered, they saw a veiled woman standing there, holding a crystal ball in her hand.
Quan Wudi stepped forward and asked, "Is this the entrance to the Tower of Delusion? Do you know anything about that high tower?"
The woman scanned the group and said with a serious expression, "I cannot know the past, but I can see the future. Though it is but a phantom, I see that your path ahead is full of hardships. Be careful, warrior."
After saying that, she raised the crystal ball in her hand and continued, "I am Simona the Diviner. Do you want to see your future?"
Jian Wuxie curled his lip and said, "Looks like a fortune-telling fraud. Let's go."
Just as the four were about to enter the tower, the woman suddenly shouted, "Don't go in! Legend has it that it was built by the Death God. If you die inside, your Souls will be imprisoned there forever."
Jian Wuxie couldn't help but curse, "Stop talking nonsense here. Death God? What a joke! How dare someone like that call themselves a god?"
Simona looked at the four, her face still wearing that terrified expression. Upon hearing Jian Wuxie's words, her expression darkened. She then took out several cards and threw them to the four, saying, "Since you won't listen to advice, then take the Death God's Invitation and go in!"
Jian Wuxie picked up a card and saw a tall skeleton wearing a cloak drawn on it, with a passage written above.
Jian Wuxie read the passage softly: "To spend one's whole life chasing the phantom of fleeting fame and fortune, only to realize at the final moment of life that it was all but vanity—this is the most precious gift life bestows upon every living thing!"
"O you who feel lost and helpless in the mortal world, I have manifested the various delusions of your hearts in this place. No longer must you endure the torment of desire; come here directly and claim the most precious gift of your lives!"
The signature at the end of this passage was: Death God Dreyfus.
"Hmph, playing tricks. Ignore her, let's go in!" Jian Wuxie said disdainfully.
The four pushed open the ancient tower door and entered the first floor.
The space inside the tower was not large and was very empty, with only a spiral staircase in the corner leading upwards, destination unknown.
Once all four had entered, the tower door behind them suddenly closed automatically, plunging them into darkness.
Before they could be surprised, a 'bang' was heard as the chandelier in the tower suddenly lit up, and their vision returned.
Three Goblins appeared in the tower, waving the wooden clubs in their hands in a show of force while staring at the four.
"There are only these monsters in this tower? Heh, not much of a challenge. Watch me deal with them." Jian Wuxie laughed loudly and smashed forward with a Mountain Collapse Strike.
Having already completed Class Advancement to a Berserker, the power of Jian Wuxie's Mountain Collapse Strike had increased significantly. The moment he landed, a massive shockwave appeared, unexpectedly shaking the three Goblins to death instantly.
Quan Wudi said in surprise, "Holy crap, so you become this powerful after Class Advancement?"
Jian Wuxie didn't know either; this was his first Move after his Class Advancement, and he was also very shocked by his own changes.
Before he could get excited, a burst of cackling laughter was heard, and a tall skeleton wearing a cloak actually appeared in the center of the tower.
The four quickly assumed battle stances, ready to strike.
Unexpectedly, the person laughed twice and waved a hand. Jian Wuxie discovered that the small amount of Spiritual Power he had spent on the skill just now was instantly refilled.
"Time is life. Go up quickly!" the skeleton said in a raspy voice, then turned and disappeared.
The four looked at each other, not knowing what expression to make for a moment.
"That guy must be the one called the Death God." Jian Wuxie remembered the card and wanted to take it out to look, but found it had disappeared.
"Whatever. Anyway, Master Feng Zhen said I'd only get my Class Advancement after clearing this tower. Let's continue," Quan Wudi said.
The four walked towards the stairs and headed to the second floor.
The space and layout of the second floor were exactly the same as the first, except there were three more throwing Goblins in the middle.
This time it was Xiao Hongyuan. She took out the light sword she had just equipped. Below the hilt, a green light emanated, gathering into the shape of a blade, which was very beautiful.
Xiao Hongyuan slid forward with a Three-Stage Slash. A flash of light passed, and the first strike took down a Goblin, followed by a second and a third. With each strike, a Goblin was killed.
Just as the three thought it was over, Xiao Hongyuan suddenly turned and slashed again. Before they could cry out in surprise, a fifth strike followed, taking another Goblin's life.
Although it takes time to describe, Xiao Hongyuan's actions were completed in almost a single breath—five smooth slashes that killed five Goblins.
"Senior Sister, how did your Three-Stage Slash strike five times?" Jian Wuxie couldn't help but ask.
Xiao Hongyuan did not answer. Instead, she used the sword technique she had newly learned after her Class Advancement on the last Goblin: Ghost Sword Technique.
Xiao Hongyuan's left hand brushed over the light sword, and a beam of light suddenly appeared on her previously empty left hand.
Holding dual swords like this, she attacked the Goblin. The speed of the dual swords was extremely fast; in just an instant, over a dozen blood splatters erupted on the Goblin's body, and it disappeared immediately.
The tall skeleton appeared again, waved his hand to restore the four's status to full, and laughed, "Jiejiejie, the next floor will test your basic skills. Continue."
The four walked up the stairs and found that this floor didn't have Goblins, but a Ghost Swordsman holding a novice Greatsword, standing in the center with hollow eyes.
Quan Wudi stepped forward and greeted him, "Hey, brother, where are the monsters on this floor? Did you kill them?"
The Ghost Swordsman didn't speak, but answered Quan Wudi's question with the Greatsword in his hand.
The Ghost Swordsman suddenly rushed towards Quan Wudi and launched him up with an Uppercut.
Caught off guard, Quan Wudi was knocked into the air by the sword. While still in shock, he glanced at his health and cried out, "Something's wrong! This guy's attack power is too high! This one strike actually cost me a tenth of my health!"
Before Quan Wudi could land, the Ghost Swordsman suddenly jumped and quickly slashed at the airborne Quan Wudi.
Quan Wudi began to fall. Just as he was about to hit the ground, the Ghost Swordsman, who had just slashed in mid-air, suddenly pointed his Greatsword downward—it was clearly a Silver Light Falling Blade.
Quan Wudi, who hadn't even gotten up from the ground, was immediately stabbed again by the Ghost Swordsman falling from the sky.
Watching the Ghost Swordsman's movements, Xiao Hongyuan actually felt a sense of Epiphany. Although he was using basic Moves, the way these Moves were chained together made it feel like there was no way to fight back.
Xiao Hongyuan pondered whether she could also combine Moves to directly control the enemy so they couldn't fight back.
A Fei finally made his Move. He first gave a soft shout, then extended his pitch-black left hand. A faint black shadow appeared and, in the next moment, wrapped itself around A Fei's body.
Then, a faint blue phantom appeared, emitting an aura of nothingness, silently floating behind A Fei.
A Fei immediately ran towards the Ghost Swordsman and Quan Wudi at high speed.
Seeing another person coming, the Ghost Swordsman immediately used Uppercut on A Fei again.
But A Fei didn't dodge or avoid it, running straight into the Greatsword.
At the moment his body was about to make contact with the Ghost Swordsman's Greatsword, the phantom behind him suddenly became clear, and A Fei's body became semi-transparent.
The Greatsword passed straight through A Fei's body without causing a single bit of damage.
Meanwhile, A Fei instantly appeared behind the Ghost Swordsman, immediately lunging and bending his waist, charging up in a Ghost Slash posture.
