17: 17. Glorious Moment
When the last exam ended and the bell rang, Lu Feng submitted his paper and had just walked out of the classroom when he saw the school principal leading a group of senior staff all standing in the corridor.
Seeing him come out, they all smiled and greeted him.
"Student Lu, you've worked hard. How did you do on the exam?"
Lu Feng nodded, "Not bad."
The principal said with a warm smile, "For something like this to happen today, and you could still calm down and take the exam, you truly are a young hero, the pride of Jiangcheng No. 3 High School."
The Dean of Students also had a radiant face and praised, "Without you, many people would have suffered an undeserved calamity today, and the thousands of students in this exam hall would have been delayed. You did a great job!"
All sorts of flattery came his way, and Lu Feng could only respond with a shy smile, catching a glimpse of Zhou Wenmei standing behind him, quietly giving him a thumbs-up and suppressing a smile.
"You need to be prepared. Outside the exam hall right now... it's very lively. Many people want to see you. Later, you'll also have to trouble yourself to go to the police station to give a statement."
Since Lu Feng decided to act, he was certainly mentally prepared, but when he arrived at the school gate, he was still shocked by the dense crowd.
There must have been at least a few thousand people here, a surging tide blocked by the police tape.
In front of the crowd, reporters and media were packed, having set up their cameras and equipment early, aimed at the main gate. When Lu Feng appeared, the flashlights immediately lit up in a blaze.
Lu Feng felt his eyes were going blind and instinctively turned his head to look at the other side, where hundreds of parents had spontaneously held up long red banners with gilded characters that read: "Salute the Heroic Students of Jiangcheng No. 3 High School!"
Some auntie, nobody knew who, shouted, "It's him! The young man is out!"
As soon as these words were uttered, the crowd surged like a tide and the next moment, Lu Feng was engulfed.
The parents moved the fastest; some handed him flowers, some hung brocade banners around his neck, and others held their children while continuously expressing their gratitude.
"Thank you, student. If it weren't for you, my daughter might have..."
"My son was right next to him, just barely missed it. Thankfully you were there. Please accept these flowers..."
"You are our family's benefactor... This brocade banner is a small token of our family's appreciation."
The crowd was boiling, the scene chaotic. Lu Feng, protected by the school leadership in the middle, was like a person tossed in waves, swaying, seeing nothing, and feeling dizzy.
The police, who had formed a human wall, were also gasping for breath and quickly shouted, "Everyone, please don't get excited, don't get excited, you'll scare Student Lu. Please step back, don't push."
The excited parents then calmed down slightly.
The media reporters, holding their equipment in the back, finally broke through the encirclement, each raising their microphones, almost poking Lu Feng in the face.
Every year after the college entrance exam, they would come to interview students. With what happened today, the focus was even more concentrated on Lu Feng.
"Student Lu, what was the situation at the time? Can you tell us?"
"Did you see the security guard pull out a knife before you crashed into him?"
"Student Lu, did this incident affect your college entrance exam? Can you tell us how you feel right now?"
Lu Feng grabbed his hair and shook his head, "I'm sorry, everyone, I still don't know what happened. My electric bike just lost control and I crashed into him."
Beside him, Zhou Wenmei stood in front of Lu Feng and explained, "Everyone, Student Lu just finished his exam and expended a lot of energy. He needs to rest. The school can answer any questions on his behalf. Please make way for now."
Hearing this, the crowd gradually made way, allowing Lu Feng to leave. The reporters and media, seeing that the person involved was indeed tired, turned their cameras towards the school's senior staff and began to inquire about Lu Feng's situation.
"Student Lu has always been a good student, diligent, brave, clever, and intelligent..."
Lu Feng couldn't help but chuckle wryly when he heard the principal's words behind him.
After separating from the crowd, Zhou Wenmei and Lu Feng got into the police car and headed to the police station.
Inside the police station, due to this major incident, it was already bustling, with people moving about everywhere.
As Lu Feng passed a conference room, he happened to see several shocking photos hanging on the blackboard inside, appearing to be three murder victims.
One of them, Lu Feng was very familiar with: it was Ma Fen, Ding Zhiyuan's ex-wife, dismembered in the bathroom.
Although the scene in another photo looked unfamiliar, he recognized the face of the corpse in the picture: it was Ding Zhiyuan's nominal son, with a knife plunged into his chest.
The last person was a bald middle-aged man, his head smashed by a blunt object, his face covered in blood and unrecognizable. Lu Feng guessed he was Ma Fen's lover.
Lu Feng was secretly surprised. This was beyond his expectations. He had only dreamed of Ma Fen being killed. When were the other two eliminated!?
While he was thinking, they arrived at the office. Director Zhou Baiquan personally received them, greeting them with a beaming smile and inviting them in, even pouring them cups of hot tea before saying with a smile, "Student Lu, Teacher Zhou, thank you for coming to give your statements."
Zhou Wenmei shook her head and smiled, "Director Zhou, it's our duty. However, Little Lu just finished his exam, so I'd like him to finish his statement and go back early."
Director Zhou Baiquan smiled, expressing his understanding.
The subsequent matters were quite simple. Lu Feng merely recounted the events, and although the police already knew, the necessary procedures still had to be followed.
"So, you didn't see him holding a knife?" Director Zhou Baiquan asked.
Lu Feng nodded, "No, I didn't. If there had been a knife, I wouldn't have gone over, even if I fell to the ground."
Director Zhou thought about it and agreed. A student, where would he get such courage? It seemed everything was a coincidence.
However, this also resolved a crisis.
Director Zhou stood up and smiled, "In any case, thank you for your help, Little Lu. But Uncle tells you, if you encounter such a situation next time, you should still try to stay away. Oh, by the way, this incident has already been reported to the city. The leaders are taking it seriously and have decided to designate you as an advanced individual for bravely doing what is right. You will be commended and rewarded in the next two days, with a bonus of 50,000."
This outcome was something Lu Feng hadn't expected.
Zhou Wenmei was very happy and said, "That's great, Little Lu, you deserve this."
She knew Lu Feng was very short on money right now, and this sum would help alleviate his immediate financial difficulties.
After the reception, Lu Feng stood up to leave and suddenly asked, "Director Zhou, why did the security guard attack the students?"
Since this matter was going to be publicly announced anyway, he explained, "Ding Zhiyuan harbored resentment due to his wife's infidelity, divorce, and issues like family and property division, which led him to retaliate against society. He attacked his ex-wife last night, and after waking up and still feeling unsatisfied, he went to his ex-wife's lover's home and attacked him. Both were killed. One of them was the same age as you, also a student."
Director Zhou said seriously, "After killing three people, he came to the school this morning, intending to retaliate against society."
Listening to these details, Zhou Wenmei felt a chill run from her heart straight to her head.
Imagine, it's just an ordinary morning. Your colleague comes to work as usual and greets you, but you have no idea that he murdered three people a few hours ago and has now set his sights on you.
