25: 25. Emotional breakdown
Lu Feng waited at the reception desk, observing the Youguang Insurance Nanan City Branch.
The decor was quite classy, and the insurance salespeople in the reception area all smiled, waiting for customers to arrive, but who would have thought that such a wicked thing could be done here?
Before long, the receptionist came over and led Lu Feng to the office area in the back, stopping in front of an office door.
"Manager Lu is in here."
The receptionist finished speaking and knocked on the office door. A cold voice from inside said, "Come in."
Lu Feng pushed the door open to reveal a bright and simple office. Behind a large desk, Lu Manwen was writing something on a document without even looking up, showing no intention of reminiscing.
"Wait until I'm done with my work."
Her tone was flat, as if giving orders to a subordinate.
Having worked for so many years, she knew exactly how to negotiate. No matter how well prepared you were, a show of dominance would quickly bring you back to reality.
But what she didn't expect was that Lu Feng, as if he were in his own home, walked around the office with his hands behind his back, even going behind her to look through the documents on her bookshelf.
Lu Manwen's eye twitched. She couldn't hold back any longer. She put down her pen, a hint of disdain flashing in her eyes, and cleared her throat, saying:
"I know what you're here for today. It's not that I'm holding back on paying for Uncle's critical illness insurance. Firstly, the claims center's opinion is that the policyholder failed to truthfully disclose his pre-existing medical history, so no compensation will be paid. Secondly, although Uncle has uremia, it does not meet the diagnostic criteria for uremia in the contract terms, so it's also impossible to pay. Do you understand all this?"
"So there's no need for you to waste time with me. You'd better go earn money for treatment as soon as possible. Also, I warn you, company rules are rigid. If you insist on trying to crack a rock with an egg, you'll have to bear the consequences yourself. Don't blame me for not warning you if something happens."
Hearing this, Lu Feng showed a slight smile, slowly walked to her desk, and casually picked up the photo standing on the desktop, saying with a half-smile, "Blue water, blue sky, golden beach. A nice tourist spot. You had a great time with Second Uncle and Second Aunt, didn't you?"
Lu Manwen's eyes narrowed slightly. She found herself somewhat unable to understand this dark-skinned young man in front of her.
She leaned back in her office chair, chin slightly raised, and said in a deep voice, "What exactly do you want to say?"
Lu Feng looked at the happy family of three in the photo and said nonchalantly, "You know, if Second Uncle knew that his beloved good daughter was actually someone else's mistress... don't you think he'd be even happier?"
Lu Feng's words were like a thunderclap, exploding in her heart. In an instant, Lu Manwen felt a chill run through her. She suddenly stood up, looking at him in horror, and nervously shouted, "Lu Feng! What nonsense are you talking about?!"
"Shouldn't you be very clear about what I'm saying? What, how many absurd things have happened in this office over the years, and how did you go from being a small insurance salesperson to this position of power... do you not have a clue in your heart?"
"Oh, now you carry designer bags every day, drive luxury cars, and even have spare money to travel everywhere. Have these things made you forget how you knelt before Shen Nanyu and served him like a dog? Tsk tsk tsk..."
Lu Feng showed a disgusted expression, threw the photo frame back onto the desk, then pulled out a tissue from the table and wiped his hands, the meaning clear... he felt it was dirty.
And Lu Manwen, hearing the name Shen Nanyu, was even more stunned, her body trembling, her face visibly turning pale.
She hadn't taken Lu Feng seriously at first, planning to dismiss this high school student with a few words. Now she realized that he had come aggressively, and all his words struck her most private secrets. He even knew about Shen Nanyu?!
This almost instantly broke through her psychological defense.
He... why would he know these things? Why did he know so clearly? Impossible... why?
Lu Manwen couldn't figure it out at all.
"Of course you don't mind being a mistress. Besides exchanging your looks for benefits, you've even fallen in love with this humble feeling. You crave to be dominated, so you want the other party to kick out his wife so you can take her place and continue living this refined yet submissive life, am I right, Cousin?"
"Oh, by the way, Cousin, do you really think Shen Nanyu's wife is a useless old hag? You shouldn't be that stupid, right..."
She grew increasingly terrified, her voice trembling as she said, "You... who exactly are you? Why..."
"I am, of course, your cousin Lu Feng."
Lu Feng's tone carried a hint of mockery, but his eyes were incredibly cold: "Originally, I wasn't interested in your sordid affairs, but you absolutely should not have toyed with my father like this."
"I didn't, I just followed the rules. I'm just an employee!"
"Is that so?"
Lu Feng sneered, stood up from the chair, and walked back to the bookshelf behind her. He reached out and pulled a document from the dense folders, then slapped it down in front of her with a "thwack."
"Let me guess, you're unwilling to pay the claim because of this, aren't you?"
Lu Manwen's body trembled. Upon seeing the words "Youguang Critical Illness Insurance Contract Filing Copy" on the folder, she felt as if she had fallen into an abyss. She looked up at the towering Lu Feng, opened her mouth but couldn't utter a single word, her teeth chattering uncontrollably.
Her body, which she had been forcing to stay strong, instantly went limp like mud, and cold sweat continuously dripped from her forehead.
