3: 3. Homicide
Zhang Biao’s face was extremely grim as he stared at Lu Feng on the hospital bed. The thought of this guy almost dying at his construction site made him feel unlucky.
If someone died, it would definitely affect his project schedule. Moreover, the other party was a high school student; once the media cameras focused on him, his embezzled funds, those shoddy building materials from cutting corners... everything would be exposed!
Thinking of this, he pulled an envelope from his pocket with an unfriendly look, threw it directly onto Lu Feng’s bed, and said, "After deducting medical expenses from your wages, this is all that's left. Take the money and scram. Don't come back again."
Lu Feng was not surprised by his behavior. He opened it expressionlessly and saw ten more bills, a thousand yuan.
Lu Feng sneered inwardly. Not to mention he wasn't badly injured, even if he was hospitalized for examination and treatment, it would cost at most a thousand yuan. How could only a thousand be left!?
It was clear he had swallowed his hard-earned money!
He looked up and said indifferently, "Foreman Zhang, please show me the medical bills. Also, where is my work injury compensation?"
Zhang Biao was startled, then instantly flew into a rage!
He leaned in menacingly, his greasy face almost touching Lu Feng’s, and said, "You actually have the nerve to ask for compensation? Do you know you almost harmed our entire construction team? Damn it, you should be burning incense that I'm not asking you for compensation, and you're still wasting my time..."
He lowered his voice menacingly: "I'm telling you, don't be ungrateful. If you keep making trouble, I'll show you the darkness of society..."
He knew Lu Feng was unconvinced, but he was just a high school student. He didn't take him seriously at all, figuring a few threats would scare him into submission. How could he dare to defy him?
But to his surprise, Lu Feng’s expression was very calm, even looking directly into Zhang Biao’s eyes, neither humble nor arrogant.
Lu Feng suddenly smiled, articulating each word: "Foreman Zhang, I'm giving you a chance now. Prepare 100,000 yuan, and I'll give you a way out."
Zhang Biao could hardly believe his ears. What did he hear?
This high school student in front of him was threatening him?
People really do laugh when they are extremely angry. He burst into intense laughter on the spot, but the chill in his eyes was unmistakable.
"Hahaha... Good, good, good. Truly a newborn calf fears no tiger. I've been in the construction industry for ten years; if I could be scared by you, I might as well not live. Use whatever methods you have, but... hehehe... if you can't kill me, I'll make you wish you were dead."
With that, Zhang Biao sneered, turned, and left, not taking Lu Feng’s words seriously at all.
Lu Feng on the hospital bed shook his head. Since Zhang Biao was fearless, he was curious to see what the outcome would be, and it would also verify the dream.
He got up and walked to the window in the ward. From there, he could clearly see the busy construction site not far away.
The show was about to begin... Meanwhile, in a corner park not far from the construction site, a disheveled man on a lounge chair suddenly woke up with a start, quickly sitting upright. His first action was to check his pocket.
Good... the fruit knife was still there.
Li Qiang spat on the ground. He had just had another dream, again dreaming of Zhang Biao’s disgusting face, and the frustration in his heart grew heavier.
Slowly taking out a few dry steamed buns from his backpack, Li Qiang chewed them indifferently, while taking a sip of cheap white liquor.
These were all bought with his last money. He had been kicked out by his Landlord yesterday, and now he was alone with no way back, so today, he had to settle things!
Chewing heartily and swallowing quickly, Li Qiang then got up and slowly walked towards the construction site not far away.
As soon as Li Qiang arrived at the construction site entrance, he was spotted by a few familiar co-workers. Knowing he was definitely there to cause trouble, they quickly advised him:
"Li Qiang, let's not act rashly. We can't fight the powerful. I suggest you go directly to labor arbitration for help!"
"Right, go to court! I don't believe that son of a bitch Zhang Biao can really be above the law!"
"Qiangzi, don't be impulsive."
Li Qiang did not speak, his eyes lifeless.
Just then, a mocking voice came from behind, scoffing, "Oh, isn't this Li Qiang? What, you still have the nerve to come here today? Coming to beg for food?"
Li Qiang turned around and saw Zhang Biao swaggering over, eating a sausage he had bought from a street vendor.
"Zhang Biao, I'll ask you one last time, are you going to give me the money or not?"
Zhang Biao had been seething with anger from being threatened by a high school student earlier, and now another annoying pest was chattering incessantly. Did they really think he, Zhang Biao, was a pushover?
This was outrageous!
"Money?"
He picked his ear, took a bite of the sausage, chewed it a few times, then brazenly spat it at Li Qiang’s feet. He then reached out, patted Li Qiang’s face, and sneered, "Eat what I spat out, and I might consider giving you the money..."
Seeing such humiliation, the other onlookers showed expressions of unbearable sympathy, clearly feeling a sense of shared sorrow.
Li Qiang remained unmoved.
Zhang Biao sneered, took another bite, and spat again on Li Qiang, provoking him.
"I'm telling you, I just need to lift a finger, and I can make it impossible for you to survive in this city, believe it or not? Heh heh... I... Ah!!"
Before he could finish speaking, he saw Li Qiang move. Li Qiang seemed to be holding something in his hand, a cold glint flashed, and only then did Zhang Biao clearly see it was a dagger.
Terror instantly seized him. He wanted to run, but it was too late. He could only watch helplessly as the dagger plunged into his chest.
Excruciating pain surged, and blood spurted out.
Li Qiang was like a madman, his eyes bloodshot with rage: "Damn you, damn you, then don't live! None of you live! I told you to bully me, now die!"
Once... twice... again... Zhang Biao’s strength seemed to drain away. He watched his bleeding body in horror, clutching Li Qiang’s clothes tightly, and slowly collapsed to the ground.
Zhang Biao was truly terrified, his pants soaked. He stammered, "No... don't... I'll pay you... I'll... don't... kill me..."
Li Qiang ignored him, squatted down, and stabbed him several more times fiercely. Only then did he drop the dagger, stood dazed for a moment, then turned and ran.
The surrounding co-workers were all terrified, afraid of being caught in the crossfire. They had long since run away, let alone that everyone had long harbored deep resentment towards Zhang Biao, so there was no way they would save him now.
Zhang Biao lay in a pool of blood, regret washing over him like a tide. He never dreamed that Li Qiang, the migrant worker he despised the most... would actually dare to act?!
His eyelids grew heavier and heavier. In his dying moments, he inexplicably recalled Lu Feng’s words from earlier:
"I'll give you a way out..."
Could it be... Li Qiang was instigated by him? Unable to delve deeper, everything before his eyes became increasingly blurry... Lu Feng watched the entire process silently from upstairs, and couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief.
Even with prior knowledge, when the murder happened right before his eyes, his heart still involuntarily trembled, and his fingertips felt cold.
But there was no time to think too much; there were important things to do next.
Lu Feng’s gaze fixed on Zhang Biao’s body in the distance, activating his other ability!
The previous dream entry was merely a passive skill, triggered after he slept, and as his ability adapted, the dream-catching range would also expand.
"Dream Capture" also had another ability, an active skill, which Lu Feng felt was more appropriately called "Forced Dream Entry."
As the name suggested, as long as the target was within his line of sight, he could make them fall asleep instantly, forcibly entering their dream. Used well, it was more effective than a weapon.
So, as Lu Feng gazed at Zhang Biao in the pool of blood, his consciousness once again detached and surged towards Zhang Biao.
