127: Chapter 127 Jade Linglong, Netherworld Blood Sea
Chu Sheng spent three days wandering all over Black Iron City.
This small border city was a bit larger than he had imagined, but not by much.
A few main roads paved with black stone, two rows of low-rise buildings, and the dark red tones characteristic of the Demon Race everywhere.
What made him most uncomfortable was the slave market in the east of the city.
Dozens of humans were locked in iron cages—men, women, old, and young—dressed in rags with numb expressions.
A fat-eared Demon Race merchant was shouting, "Authentic Human Race! Hardworking! Don't miss out as you pass by!"
Chu Sheng stood at a distance and watched for a long time.
A Fu shrank behind him and whispered, "My Lord, these Human Race... were all captured in a few previous small-scale conflicts. If you want to buy a few..."
Chu Sheng waved his hand and turned to leave.
How many could he buy? Ten? A hundred?
Black Iron City was just a small border city; to the north, there were also White Bone City, Blood Moon City, as well as Nine Nether Palace, Hall of Ten Thousand Demons, and Blood God Sect.
Across the entire Demon Race territory, there was no telling how many slave markets like this existed.
He couldn't save everyone, and he wasn't even sure if he could make it back alive himself.
"Out of sight, out of mind," he told himself.
A rumor began to circulate in Black Iron City, growing more and more bizarre as it spread.
Something had happened at the Netherworld Blood Sea.
Chu Sheng listened in the tavern for a long time and managed to piece together a rough outline.
The Netherworld Blood Sea was a massive spectacle in the Demon Race territory, said to be the place where a Devil King-level powerhouse had fallen.
The Netherworld Ancestor, in the Dao Palace Realm, had perished in a great battle with a Righteous Path Dao Palace expert back then.
Before he died, the Old Ancestor had severed one of his opponent's arms, and both sank into the Sea of Blood together.
Now, that Devil King's corpse and that Dao Palace arm were both deep within the Sea of Blood.
Rumors said that the Netherworld Ancestor's corpse suddenly showed signs of movement; the Sea of Blood surged, and Devilish Qi shot into the sky.
Someone saw a giant palm stretch out from the Sea of Blood, blotting out the sun.
After hearing this, Chu Sheng gasped.
A Devil King's corpse? A Dao Palace arm?
He looked down at himself. Late stage of True Transformation. It seemed he was just one step away from the Spirit Sea.
He couldn't take this step in the Tianfeng Kingdom, and he couldn't take it in Black Iron City either.
The demon refining pot was cracked, the immortal slaying gourd was dim, and the feedback from his children was like distant water that couldn't put out a nearby fire.
As a Mediocrity, his usual Cultivate sessions couldn't meet the needs of the True Transformation Realm stage at all; now, all he could rely on was his Heavenly Demon Body.
"So, I must go to the Sea of Blood," he muttered to himself.
Then again, he heard there were quite a few female Cultivators there.
"Many Children, Many Blessings" could also come into play; he could father a little demon cub.
He stroked his chin, thinking his idea made a lot of sense—for the sake of his cultivation, it wasn't shameful.
The Old Grandfather's voice suddenly rang out, slightly weak but much more spirited than a few days ago.
"Netherworld Ancestor? Never heard of him; he must be some ordinary fellow. Back then, I..."
Chu Sheng quickly interrupted.
"Can you wait until we reach the Sea of Blood to brag? Then you can brag all you want, and I'll be in charge of applauding."
The Old Grandfather was so angry he didn't speak for a long time.
The Arena Master couldn't sit still.
When Chu Sheng was summoned to the mansion, the Arena Master was pacing back and forth, a rare look of anxiety on his face.
"Something happened at the Sea of Blood. I'm going to try my luck, and you're coming with me."
It wasn't a discussion; it was an order.
Chu Sheng nodded and agreed.
In his heart, however, he was making his own plans.
Following the Arena Master was nominally as a guard, but in reality, it was just convenient.
Once they reached the Sea of Blood, it was uncertain who would be following whom.
The Arena Master glanced at him, seemingly wanting to say something, but ultimately just waved his hand.
"Go prepare. We leave in three days."
The day before departure, Chu Sheng encountered a group of Cultivators from the north at the city gate.
The leader was a woman, a pure-blooded Demon Race member at the Peak True Transformation Realm stage.
She wore a suit of black tight-fitting armor that outlined her exquisite figure, but her face was cold enough to scrape frost from.
She glanced at Chu Sheng and said only two words.
"Demonic Cultivator?"
Before Chu Sheng could answer, a burly man nearby approached.
A mixed-blood Demon Race member at the Late stage of True Transformation, his physique was as sturdy as a mountain, but the expression on his face was as simple and honest as a big dog's.
"Brother, are you also going to the Sea of Blood? Let's go together!"
He reached out and slapped Chu Sheng on the shoulder with such force that half of Chu Sheng's body went numb.
Chu Sheng bared his teeth, glanced at the cold-faced woman, and then at this simpleton.
"My name is Huang Gula," the burly man introduced himself, pointing at the cold-faced woman. "She's the leader, and I'm the errand runner."
Fake Name said nothing and turned to leave.
Huang Gula winked at Chu Sheng and lowered his voice.
"Don't mind her, she's just like that. She's actually a good person, just not very talkative."
Watching Fake Name's departing back, Chu Sheng suddenly had a premonition. This trip to the Sea of Blood would not be peaceful.
That night, the Old Grandfather suddenly became much more energetic.
As Chu Sheng was wiping that battle-axe, the Old Grandfather's voice drifted out from the ring, full of vigor.
"Netherworld Ancestor? When I roamed the world back then, characters like that had to take a detour when they saw me."
Chu Sheng ignored him and continued wiping the axe.
The Old Grandfather continued, his voice growing more and more smug.
"I've been to that Sea of Blood too; it's nothing special. Back then, with one palm strike from me, the Sea of Blood flowed backward for a thousand miles..."
Chu Sheng chuckled, put away the axe, and lay down on the couch.
Flower Consort poked her head out from behind the screen and asked cautiously, "Master, we're leaving tomorrow. Should I..."
Chu Sheng waved his hand.
"No need. Get some good rest; we have a journey tomorrow."
Flower Consort obediently shrank back.
Chu Sheng closed his eyes, but his mind was on Fake Name's cold face.
With her background and Peak True Transformation Realm cultivation, coming to a place like the Sea of Blood was certainly not as simple as trying her luck.
And that Huang Gula—he looked simple, but anyone who could walk alongside Fake Name was definitely no ordinary person.
These waters were very deep.
He felt the pile of fragments in his Storage Pouch.
The immortal slaying gourd, the phoenix ring, and the demon refining pot were all unusable.
Repairing these things required a large amount of rare Materials.
And such Materials couldn't be found at all in a small place like Black Iron City.
The Sea of Blood was different—the place where a Devil King fell, where a Dao Palace fell; what good things wouldn't be there?
"I hope I can scavenge some good things this time," he muttered to himself.
In the distance, the cheers from the Gladiatorial Arena had stopped.
